Ratings: As NBA Finals Dominate, Aquarius Drops, Hannibal Returns Down

NBA Finals 2015

With the NBA Finals dominating the night, NBC’s Aquarius on Thursday drew 3.9 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating (per finals), dropping 32 and 36 percent from its double-episode premiere.

Leading out of that, Hannibal opened Season 3 with 2.6 mil and a 0.7, down 21 and 36 percent from its sophomore opener (which aired on a Friday, in season) and dipping tenth in the demo from its Season 2 finale.

ABC’s coverage of the aforementioned NBA Finals Game 1 averaged 17.8 million viewers and a 6.9 rating (from 9 to 11 pm) per finals, up 19 and 15 percent from last year’s opener.

Elsewhere, Fox’s Bones (5.2 mil/1.1) and Wayward Pines (4.2 mil/1.1) each dipped a tenth in the demo, with the latter adding a few eyeballs week-to-week.

  2. So disappointing. I actually watched Hannibal live with commercials. Something I usually only do for live events.

  3. a says:

ABC owned the night not only with NBA finals spanning through the timezones but at 8pm with Kimmel (2.7 ) and the Countdown show (3.6) in pre lims anyways….who said summer slots didnt have any competition?

  4. thisismenow says:

Thankfully, these are summer shows. So we’ll at least have the complete season before they forget to tell us for a year it has been cancelled. Just like with Taxi Brooklyn. (Thanks again NBC)

  5. Rebecca says:

Rooting for Golden State because a summer of Lebron celebrating would be insufferable.

  6. kmw says:

Too bad for NBC’S shows especially Hannibal. Why NBC put it on opposite basketball I will never know. Also too bad Bones slipped. It was a great episode. Nice that Wayward pines is holding where its at

  7. Azrielen says:

Hannibal always ends up being opposite some sports thing. I personally think its numbers are great for a summer series with expected competition. It’s Nielsen Social ratings were through the roof on impressions aka the only number that matters.

  8. The Beach says:

I’m not sure the Hannibal episode is one that is going to draw in many new viewers. Even many die-hard fans found this ep too arty and the dialogue too hard to hear.

  9. RENDER says:

I’m not suprised Aquarius ratings dropped. NBC Put the whole series up on the internet…. So far I have really enjoyed it so maybe the the rest of the people watched it online. I prefer watching it like that so I hope NBC take that into consideration

Wayward Pines is getting good word of mouth but isn’t available ‘OnDemand’ so new viewers can catch up. Big mistake.

My only response to the rating is: well duh. You have a great story and drama with NBA finals. Everyone is watching.
