Frances Conroy Married

FX’s Married will kick off its sophomore season with a family reunion, featuring two TV veterans.

Frances Conroy (American Horror Story) and M.C. Gainey (Lost) will guest-star on the cable comedy’s Season 2 premiere, reports.

The pair will play Janice and Ed, the mother and stepfather of Judy Greer’s Lina. When Lina and Russ visit her ‘rents — in the hopes of bringing Janice home to receive better care — things take an unexpected turn.

Married returns for Season 2 on Thursday, July 16, at 10:30 pm.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* ABC has again changed the name of its new Sunday night drama, Oil (fka Boom), to Blood and Oil. Which is so much less ickier…?

* General Hospital has cast relative newcomer Robert Palmer Watkins (of the web series Last Life) in the role of Dillon Quartermaine, which was previously played by Scott Clifton until 2007. Per Soap Opera Digest, Watkins will make his debut next week.

* HBO has given a two-season order to Animals, an animated comedy produced by Mark and Jay Duplass (Togetherness), Deadline reports. Set to debut in 2016, Animals revolves around the downtrodden creatures native to New York City, from lovelorn rats to gender-questioning pigeons to aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis.

* Days of Our Lives vet Jason Cook, who played Shawn-Douglas Brady from 1999 to 2006, will return for the series’ 50th anniversary in November, Soap Opera Digest reports.

* Erin Andrews (Dancing With the Stars) and Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect) will co-host the CMT Music Awards, airing Wednesday, June 10, at 8/7c.

  1. Mary says:

Just waiting for Oil to be renamed Dallas 3.0.

    • m3rcnate says:

Lol exactly. Would have much more preferred the “moves to an area with rich people around, works hard, drama, becomes rich” plot in Silicon Valley. A modern adaptation, instead of oil and Texas and all that 70’s crap, make a show real to 2015. A couple move to silicon valley with an app they designed and eventually they make it big and the app is the next instagram and they become billionaires and all the drama that comes along with that.

  2. Tom says:

Oil is a much better title…they might as well just call it There Will be Blood then…

  3. wrstlgirl says:

All this fuss over the name of a show, doesn’t matter to me whatsoever, it’s the quality of the show that’s important. Super that they are bringing Dillion back to the GH fold. And Jason Cook coming in as Shawn Brady is a big deal. Now we just need Belle, Phillip, Mimi, Rex and Jan Spears, LOL!!! I just hope that at least a few of these returns on Days stick around after the 50th anniversary.

  4. Jared says:

Oil was a bad title but Blood and Oil is even worse and doesn’t make sense. What was wrong with Boom??

    • Pia says:

      I liked Boom best too!

    • Shazay says:

I’m thinking water and oil…….blood and oil…….blood is thicker than oil….something like that.

    • Karlie says:

It doesn’t really matter what they call it. Between this and that Kings and Prophets show, this looks like the first time in over 10 years that I won’t be watching ABC all night on Sunday. I’ll continue watching OUAT, but these 2 shows look pretty bad. Quantico looks really awful, too. All I kept thinking during the preview was “These bimbos are supposed to be FBI agents?!”

  5. Mr. Tran K says:

Beth Behrs of 2 Broke Girls should have been a great choice to co-host this year’s CMT Music Awards because I hear she’s a huge fan of country music and best friends with Hilary Scott of Lady Antebellum. Maybe next year she’ll get it.

  6. Sabrina says:

Truth be told, Oil and Boom had some simplicity to it — like Revenge, Scandal. I mean, Blood and Oil is okay but they don’t really fit together well…

I hope it’s not a cheap rip off of Dallas because that would be irritating.

  7. LOL says:

Oil was a better title IMO

  8. mia says:

GH: oh good, another Quatermaine I’m sure they will kill off or ruin

  9. Diz says:

    Can’t it just be Dallas?

  10. Sean says:

For those wondering why ABC can’t name it Boom, it’s because FOX has a new show called Boom premiering in June.

Bloody Oil would have been a better title..

  12. KN says:

Oil was bad. Blood and Oil is worse. Boom was better.

  13. Topsy Turvy says:

The “working title” for DYNASTY back in the early 80s was OIL.

  14. How about we just bring back Dallas 2.0, toss out Oil, etc etc and call it a day?

  15. Marci says:

What character did M C Gainey play on Days of Our Lives¿
