Regina King Joins The Leftovers

Regina King The Leftovers

The Leftovers has begun replenishing its cast.

American Crime‘s Regina King is joining the HBO drama’s Season 2 ensemble as a series regular, TVLine has learned.

King will play Erika Murphy, a doctor who runs the local urgent care in town. The show is currently casting the roles of her husband John and teenage kids Evie and Michael.

As TVLine previously reported, The Leftovers is undergoing a creative revamp after exhausting nearly all of its source material in Season 1 (the series is created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta and based on Perrotta’s 2011 novel of the same name). In addition to relocating from New York to Texas, the acclaimed drama is dropping roughly half of its cast; however, leads Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Eccleston and Carrie Coon are expected to return.

Production on Season 2 is slated to start later this month.

I LOVE HER! Every character she’s played on TV from 24 to Southland has been memorable. She’s a powerful actress and a perfect fit for this show

I swear Regina King could join every single show on television and every single show on television would benefit from it.

If you watched through episode four, you might change your mind. I know that’s a big commitment in time but the first three episodes of this show really tried my patience only for it to eventually build into one of the most rewarding viewing experiences I had last year.
      Regina King!!!

  7. James says:

The Leftovers was the best show on television last year and I’ve been waiting for some new casting news. I haven’t seen much of Regina King’s work, but from what I have seen I haven’t been impressed nor appalled. The returning cast is brilliant so hopefully she brings it.

    here is the original comment…

As long as Carrie C**n is on the show I don’t care if they cast Chevy Chase to join the second season!!!

Great news! I don’t know how the Emmys passed her over for her work on “Southland.” Looking forward to seeing her in this.
