Chris Daughtry’s already a rock star — and now he’s about to play one on TV.
The American Idol Season 5 standout has been cast in the Fox drama pilot Studio City in the recurring role of drug-addicted music star Keith Rhodes.
Fans of Daughtry’s original music need not worry about his acting gig getting in the way of fresh music, as he’ll also write original tunes for the potential series.
Studio City, from Grey’s Anatomy scribe Krista Vernoff, is a coming-of-age story about a young singer’s path to stardom as she lives with her songwriter father — who also happens to be a drug dealer to the stars. Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) is set to star as the aforementioned daddy dealer, with Heather Graham (Flowers In the Attic) playing his third wife.
Florence Pugh, Jeanine Mason (Bunheads, So You Think You Can Dance), Riley Smith (True Blood), Samantha Logan (The Fosters), Jordan Calloway (Drumline: A New Beat) and Timothy Granaderos round out the cast.
Daughtry previously guest-starred on a 2008 episode of CSI: New York. (Click here to watch one of his scenes.)
