'Glee' Finale Week

Glee's 21 Most Memorable Villains: Who's the Baddest of Them All?

Glee Villains

Throughout Glee‘s six-season run, many a Slushie has been thrown — literally and figuratively — in the face of McKinley High’s bright-eyed students.

Even though Sue Sylvester may be the first name that comes to mind when thinking of New Directions’ foes, Rachel Berry & Co. have encountered plenty of other adversaries. (Neil Patrick Harris really can’t resist a good musical number, can he?)

On the eve of Glee‘s swan song — when each character on the Fox series will, hopefully, get his or her own happy ending — we’re looking back on the villains who tried to prevent those fairytale conclusions from becoming a reality, in order from least to most effective.

Just so we’re clear: “Villain,” in this context, applies to someone who a) actively tried to take down New Directions, b) bullied one or more members of the glee club or c) displayed such loathsome personality traits that we just couldn’t exclude them, even if they couldn’t care less about the goings-on in the choir room.

(Also, not every member of the McKinley High football team deserved a place on the list, bullies though they may have been.)

Click through the gallery below to see our ranking of Glee‘s most memorable villains, then hit the comments and tell us: Which characters did you most love to hate?

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

I think Hunter should´ve been included. Definitely instead of Sugar… Even Rory and his plot to get into Brittany´s pans tops Ben.
And I know Spencer is handsome or whatever, but the foe this season is the guy from Vocal Adrenaline… he is BAD….
He was devious and even Sebastian was scared of him…

  2. Jenifer says:

For me, Santana was the best villain. Although, towards the end she got way too angry it became over the top. Same with Sue. She was amazing in season one and two but then it just got out of hand.

  3. Sara says:

While I agree with and understand Dave Karofsky being on this list, because his bullying of the Glee club as a whole, and Kurt especially, in the first season and a half was atrocious, I still think he ended up being the character with the most growth in the entire series. Yes, the relationship with Blaine was really weird for the writers to have put together, but it wasn’t Karofsky being malicious towards Kurt or anyone else. It was simply a young man exploring a relationship and being proud of who he was as a person, rather than the scared and destructive boy he had been. I can support that completely, even though I would have preferred he do it with someone other than Blaine (or Kurt, for that matter).
I can also 100% get behind Santana being #2 on this list. She can be hateful.

  4. anna says:

ugh santana… I hated her when she told rachel she only was prom queen just because they felt sorry for her and they rigged it.

    • guest says:

      Where was the lie though?

      • Tim says:

No but it was unnecessary like a good deal of what Santana decided to do. It is one thing to get mad and say something but Santana held on to things to be revengeful.

        • guest says:

Wasn’t her and Quinn the ones that made Rachel prom Queen? And wasn’t this said during a fight between her and Rachel? Didn’t Rachel say some bad things back even escalating it to physical level?

          • anna says:

no, this was when rachel was going to sing defying gravity with mercedes and kurt. they were not fighting and rachel didn’t say bad things. plus, what does it have to do that her and quinn did it, the mean thing was, as tim says, that it was unnecessary and vengeful… she did it just to make rachel feel bad.

  5. Marco says:

Um, where’s Blaine? Evidence: the deterioration of Kurt’s character due to Klaine, the attempted rape in the Scandals parking lot, the shaming of Kurt while doing the same but worse in the Whitney episode, his countless murders of good songs (Fighter, Don’t Stop Me Now, It’s Not Alright But It’s OK…)?

    • kd86953 says:

It absolutely boggles my mind that people still think Blaine tried to rape Kurt. Kurt said stop and SHOCKING Blaine stopped.

    • Its not “its not alright but its OK” its “It’s not RIGHT but it’s okay”

    • Tai says:

Blaine/Klaine is to blame for Kurt’s character defects? Interesting. I lost respect for Kurt as a character in early season two before he started dating Blaine. I find it so funny how fans of this show blame everything on Blaine and ignore that Kurt is very far from perfect and at times likable.

  6. jelly says:

Ok, how is Becky ONLY number 20, first off? And above Spencer, for crying out loud? Becky was ok in the first two seasons but then she quickly derailed into ‘bitchy’ territory before completely becoming a wholehearted villain. She may not be top 10 villain material, but she definitely needs to be ranked below more people. Also, some of the other choices on this list don’t fit. Bitchy and villains are two different things. Sugar was never perceived as a villain. Jacob was creepy as hell too, but not a villain. Brody was despicable, but he also was not a villain. And Quinn needs to be a bit higher on the list if Santana is #2, and Cooter needs to be top 10. It doesn’t matter HOW many times he showed up. He’s more of a villain than a couple of others, like Carmen.

    • guest says:

I agree. Quinn should’ve been in the top 5. Very sadistic and horrible to Finn and 100x to Rachel in s1. Was very selfish in season 2. Went a little crazy in season 3. Dated her professor in 4.

  7. K says:

Santana was the best character hands down. She was the best hero and the best villain.

    • guest says:

That is exactly why she is one of my all time favorite. I started of thinking “she is the perfect antagonist along with Sue” by the end, turns out, she is capable of being the perfect protagonist.

  8. DCL30 says:

How is Rachel not on this list?

    • guest says:

Because While Rachel has done a lot of horrible things, she isn’t meant to be a villain. Same for Blaine, Kurt, Finn, Shue etc

    • true says:

Becasue that would be stupid since she wasn’t a villain.

      • DCL30 says:

eh… she should have been on the list… right under Sue. While everyone else was openly horrible, she was the one that was the worst because she was a backstabbing b***h. Yes Santana was bad, but when it came to defend her friends she was there for them, while Rachel used everyone to get ahead not looking back what she did.

  9. KC says:

Dave Karofsky and Santana Lopez – both worse than Sue Sylvester!!!

  10. Jared says:

Aww..Grant Gustin was so cute and mean on Glee.

  11. Anna says:

“There’s no doubt that Sue has a good side — but she tops this list because her bad side is a lot more fun.” – Fun for whom, exactly? The students she constantly bullied and even physically assaulted? And that not only whilst she was “just” the cheerleading coach, but also while she was the freaking principal, for crying out loud! In my opinion, there is literally nothing fun or funny about Sue. She’s like Umbridge. And that’s the worst insult I can think of to describe a truly horrible teacher. Does anyone really think all the stuff that Sue did on this show is fun? It might’ve been fun in the beginning, but in the end, Sue was imho simply disgusting. So yeah, she definitely belongs on top of this list. And yeah, she might have some good sides (remember her sister?), but at some point the writers of this show seem to have abandoned this and made her quite literally the worst human being on the show. And nothing, I repeat, nothing is “fun” about traumatizing students like Sue did and setting cars on fire “just for fun”. Not having to see Sue Silvester anywhere ever again is the best thing about this show finally ending.

  12. Kalee says:

I assume Becky ranked low on the list not because she was villainous (cause she was as Sue’s right-hand), but because how annoying and incoherent her yelling progressed as the years went on.

  13. kim says:

Quinn should have been much higher girl was crazy. All that crap with Shelby was pure evil. And I still think if Rachel never told the truth Finn would still think the kid was his.

    • Riana says:

Because she didn’t lie to Finn out of malice. She genuinely loved him but was terrified that Finn would leave her if he knew that she cheated, something to which she only half-consented to because she clearly wasn’t in the right state of mind and Puck took advantage of her.

And her wanting to get Beth back wasn’t helped by the fact that Shelby made her change her appearance in order to see her. And trying to tell Figgins that Shelby was sleeping with Puck was the right thing to do since it is illegal. Honestly the whole plot was one of the many issues with Season 3.

  14. Riana says:

Terrible list. Being an antagonist or simply annoying does not make one a villain. Seriously, Quinn is only a villain in the sense that she dated Finn, which Finchel people, including the writers, seem to think is unforgivable.

Here is a list of actual villains from the show: Sue, Sebastian, Bree, Becky, Hunter, Cassandra, Santana (For the Troubletones arc only) and the new guy from Vocal Adrenaline. Cooter can’t even be counted because they never showed him hitting Bieste.

  15. soakedpancakes says:

You have a very loose grasp of the word ‘villain.’

  16. Wayne Tunks says:

Can’t even read the article because an ad I can’t close is covering the words. Your pop up ads are getting too annoying!

  17. Jennifer says:

I have to say when I think of biggest villain on Glee I think of Terry. I know she was more villainous towards Will than the Nee Directions but she faked a pregnancy. That’s just awful.

  18. DJ Doena says:

Barry Allen was a Warbler? Didn’t even remember that…

  19. Adam says:

Gives you Hell and Rose’s turn were my favorite and i was hoping some one else would share the feeling with me
