Lucy Lawless Joins Starz's Evil Dead Sequel Series, Starring Bruce Campbell

Lucy Lawless Evil Dead Cast

Spartacus alum Lucy Lawless is returning to Starz, with a role on the network’s upcoming Ash vs. Evil Dead series.

A follow-up to the cult classic Evil Dead films, Ash vs. Evil Dead brings back Bruce Campbell as Ash, the stock boy/aging lothario/chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. But when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is forced to face his demons, personal and literal.

Lawless will play Ruby, a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem? She believes that Ash is the cause of it all.

In addition to her turn as Lucretia on two of Starz’s Spartacus series, Lawless’ TV credits include Xena: Warrior Princess, Battlestar Galactica, Parks and Recreation and the coming season of WGN America’s Salem (where she will recur as Countess Marburg, one of the last members of a line of powerful German witches).

Ash vs. Evil Dead is set to film on location in New Zealand this spring, with an eye on a late 2015 premiere. Sam Raimi — with whom Lawless worked on Xena and Spartacus — will direct the first half-hour episode, which he also cowrote.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

    Yessss, this is great news!

  2. Ray says:

Guess we know the fate of her character on Salem

    • lauren says:

if she’s not a series regular on “Salem” then she obvi can do both. not sure why people always make such assumptions when the tv business is so different and shooting year around nowadays.

  3. lauren says:

Best news in ages! “Salem” AND Evil Dead?? As if I wasn’t going to watch both all ready!

  4. I was thinking, since Ash once met Herbert West from Re-Animator in the comics, how awesome would be if Jeffrey Combs showed up as West on this show, if not in the first season hopefully in the second?

  5. Jusa says:

Xena and Autolycus reunited. Always loved the way Lucy and Bruce interacted with each other.

  6. Jon says:

Well, she IS married to Rob Tapert. Sam Raimi’s producing partner…

  7. Ian says:

Love Lucy til the day I die.

So happy to see her doing more big work, but its high time she led her own series again.

    • Agent 86 says:

I agree. It would be great to see Lucy Lawless on TV on a more permanent basis. But, between the Evil Dead and Salem, hopefully we’ll receive a good dose of the Flawless Lawless in 2015 and that these appearances will lead to bigger and better things for Lucy Lawless in the future (IF she even wants a permanent starring role again, as she may want to continue spending time with her children and on her various charitable and climate change awareness endeavours).

  8. Agent 86 says:

Pretty awesome news! The more Lucy Lawless on the big or small screen the better. And her role as Lucretia was a revelation after watching (and loving) her as Xena. I hope that the role of Ruby provides Lucy Lawless with another opportunity to wow us!

  9. Marco says:

Technically, she isn’t wrong; after all, Ash (and his friends/girlfriend, according to either TED or TED2) DID reawaken the Deadites from their slumber, even though it was accidental.
