Nashville Adds Broadway Star as Openly Gay Country Singer

Nashville Season 3 Cast Kyle Massey

Nashville is bringing in a handsome Broadway star to play an openly gay country artist.

On a related note: Will Lexington, it might be time to update that Grindr profile.

Pippin‘s Kyle Dean Massey will join the ABC series in the recurring role of out-and-proud singer Kevin Bicks, our sister site Deadline reports.

Kevin is a successful country artist who happens to like guys, and his very existence deflates Will’s theory that the genre will never accept a gay superstar.

Massey’s other TV gigs include The Good WifeInside Amy Schumer and Hart of Dixie.

Ohhhhh, this should be interesting. I hope this amps up the Will coming out story line.

  2. abz says:

This should be fun. Hoping this will finally push Will’s storyline forward instead of the snail’s pace it’s been.
More Will progession, more Rayna/Juliet scenes, less Teddy and the elimination of Luke Wheeler are the biggest things Nashville needs to work on moving forward IMO.

    • Normandy says:

The problem with Teddy is that he was part of the politics/big business/corruption half of the show that went away when they got rid of Powers Boothe and Robert Wisdom. But since he’s the father they can’t just have him leave or kill him off.

Having Teddy’s and Jeff’s circles intersecting was the logical place they should’ve gone to sooner, however they haven’t done anything with it. What was the point of Teddy with the escort? He sees her for a couple episodes, wants more, then decides not to and that’s the end.

But now that Teddy co-wrote his daughters’ song out of the blue (and suddenly doesn’t hate Deacon anymore), they can fold him into the music scene now. =D

      Spot on analysis!

  3. LT says:

The problem being…is “Kevin Bicks” an already established star? Then, why is Will fretting about his career? If Kevin is new to the scene, then he’s in the same boat as Will. Either way, I hope this is handled in a way that doesn’t make what we’ve witnessed the last season and a half with Will seem silly. And at the end of the day, it’s good to see this represented in primetime.

  4. So, do you wrstigirl and abz also support, accept and extol the virtues of same-gender incest? Hint: If you don’t then you are guilty of the practice of non inclusivity, Y-N?
Also if you don’t then you agree with ALL 50 states who ban the same-gender incest folks from so-called marriage.
Hmm, I wonder does that mean All 50 States are bigots and or homophobes, or do they believe it’s constitutional to define marriage in every state?

  5. Kate says:

Saw him in Pippin and in Wicked and had the privilege of meeting him there- so charming and a ridiculously gorgeous voice. Thrilled to hear this news!

  6. Amy says:

Is there hope for Will to come out??

  7. Amie says:

When I saw the headline I was hoping for Gavin Creel. But I guess he’s busy with Book of Mormon. Oh well. Kyle Dean Massey will do.

  8. ABC says:

Not sure producers would have gone in this direction had not two two queer C/W stars just recently came out. That said, good for them. Liitle steps is still progress in the right direction.

  9. Susi says:

    Loved Kyle in Pippin!

  10. Linda Stevens says:

Keep Teddy out of the music scene..He’s always hated it .So why involve him now..Didn’t know he co wrote anything with his daughters

  11. myra walker says:

Love the show just get tired of being fed bread crumbs.
