The CW Grants Full-Season Orders to The Flash, Jane the Virgin

The Flash Season 1 Spoilers

The Flash is gonna keep on running, while Jane the Virgin will carry to term.

The CW announced on Tuesday that it has granted full-season orders to both of its fall debuts — totalling 23 and 22 episodes, respectively — on the heels of well-watched premieres and critical acclaim.

“We have had a fantastic start to our season this year, with The Flash launching as our most-watched series premiere ever, and Jane the Virgin recognized as the best new show this season by critics across the country,” network president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement.

“Over the past three seasons, we have made it our mission to grow and to broaden out our audience, and to keep raising the bar with the quality and impact of our new shows, and The Flash and Jane have both exceeded our expectations on all counts,” Pedowitz added.

The Flash debuted as the most-watched series premiere ever on The CW — amassing 6.1 million viewers in Live+3 ratings — and was the network’s highest-rated series premiere among Adults 18-49 in more than five years.

Jane’s debut meanwhile doubled The CW’s year-ago performance in the Mondays-at-9 time slot, and held steady in Week 2.

    ⚡️⚡️The Flash ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‼️

  2. Ray says:

Wow. The Flash getting a full season was inevitable but Jane the Virgin was not a sure thing. Congrats to fans of both shows

  3. LT says:

    WOO-HOO!!!! on both shows!!!!!!

  4. LE says:

Good news for The Flash! And I might give a chance to Jane. Hmmm now I’m wondering how is the CW gonna fit iZombie, The Messengers, HOD and Beauty and the Beast in their schedules?

The 100 has a full season order or it’s just 13 episodes? I’m guessing Reign might move to Fridays by midseason :(

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

      THE 100 has a 16-episode order.

    • johnhelvete says:

The CW could air both The Originals and JTV with fewer repeats and have them both end the last Monday in April, and than premiere HOD and BATB the first Monday in May and air both shows into summer. The Good Wife on CBS ended seasons 3 and season 4 in April for example.

    • Sizzle says:

Beauty & The Beast will likely end up airing over the summer, Hart Of Dixie only has 10 episodes and could slot back in on Fridays after Top Model ends.

Really happy about the two new renewals though, hard to believe that out of all the broadcast nets its The CW with the most consistently awesome lineup of shows!

  5. FREDO says:

    The Flash.

  6. mariangela says:

The flash so far is good! So great news about the full order! Jane is not yet brocasting on my country but the telenovela is from my country and I gonna say is only get better!!!
But what this mean for the midseason shows??? I am excited for the Messengers and iZombie

  7. KN says:

Woohoo, CW! Great year for them!!

  8. Catherine says:

Yay for Jane the Virgin! Just watched the pilot and I think it successfully fills the Ugly Betty shaped hole in my heart, and Gina Rodriguez is just amazing! So excited to see what they do with a whole season

    • Jess says:

I am surprised that I haven’t seen more Betty comparisons. It has the same cutting wit, and darkly wry humor as UB, as well as a cast of colorfully flawed, yet endearing characters.

  9. cdhaskell says:

I am glad that CW will both The Flash and Jane The Virgin the full season. They are winner.

  10. Dean says:

Still think flash has a better chance of seeing a season 2.

  11. Marilyn Hay says:

Sure wish The CW would pick up Almost Human for the 20015 season, the FOXTV top ten show that didn’t get renewed despite awards, a five year story plan, great chemistry and millions of loyal worldwide fans. Don’t know why FOX picks up scifi like Almost Human and Firefly only to trash them prematurely. Anyway, Almost Human would work well in the CW line up and since it’s a WarnerBros production, a deal would seem to be workable.

    • bar says:

Any arguments about Fox throwing out scifi shows are invalid after all it did to save Fringe for two more seasons than its ratings deserved. Plus the CW does not have the money to pay the staff the amount that the other networks do.

      • David4 says:

Fringe wouldn’t have needed saving if they didn’t screw the show over by moving it from Monday night to Thursday death slot.

        • Marilyn Hay says:

FOXTV is very good at putting scifi in death slots; did the same to Firefly and Almost Human was up against worst competition on tv, put on long hiatus twice, eps were shown out of order and it still was top 4 scripted show, top 7 overall which speaks well for its popularity and the loyalty of their fans. As for what CW could afford, well, it wouldn’t have to be a full season. Maybe six eps or eight, or a short mini series or even a series of tv movies over a few years. Almost Human has a ton more story to tell, the kind of numbers to make any network take notice and is produced by CW’s parent company, Warner Bros. A short schedule like that would work better with the stars anyway, who are both more movie than tv stars. Anyway, just saying that I think CW would be a very good home for this show because the CW appreciates fans and actually seems to respect them.

    • Stinky Feet Lover says:

If that show was too expensive for FOX, don’t expect The CW to be able to afford it. The FX alone cost pretty much each episode.

      • Marilyn Hay says:

Well, I mentioned above, it wouldn’t have to be a full series but a mini series or even tv movie or movies, so that could make it more affordable. Could be worth it to bring six to nine million viewers, minimum, to the network. Also, since Warner Bros is the parent company and show producer, there may be economies that could be enabled that weren’t possible when selling to an ‘outside’ network like FOXTV. Further, a lot of the special effects are in the can already so could perhaps be re used in street, cityscape scenes, in the office scenes, etc.

  12. Rachelle says:

did reign and the originals already get a full 22 episode pick up?

  13. robinepowell says:

    The Flash. ;)

  14. SS says:

The Flash! I knew it would get a full season.

  15. BP says:

still not sold on the Flash… But I’ll give it another episode or two

  16. Joey Padron says:

Happy The Flash got a full season pickup!

  17. Tran says:

As I read in the article, is it true that The Flash gets a 23-episode order and Jane the Virgin gets a 22-episode order? Think I’m right about this. I also learned that Hart of Dixie is getting to have a 10-episode order which means the upcoming fourth season is going to be its last and what does it mean for the fate of Beauty and the Beast?

  18. Robin says:

So excited! Love Jane the Virgin and really enjoy The Flash!

  19. In the comics, Thawne/Zoom is a mega Flash fanboy who undergoes plastic surgery to make himself look like Barry Allen. What I would like to see is for Zoom to do that in one episode (make himself look like Barry as he looks now), he then kills Barry’s dad, goes back in time to kill his mom, and when he comes back he’s aged 20-25 years and now instead of looking like the actor who plays Flash on this show he looks like Shipp, who played the Flash in the 90’s show. That way, Shipp goes from playing Barry’s dad to playing Zoom.

  20. Fall says:

Yay! Both shows are great and I’m happy for the cast.

  21. Bill says:

Great news for both shows and both breakout lead actors.

  22. Ella says:

Can Felicity move over to The Flash permanently? :) She’s WAY hotter with Barry than she is with Ollie.

  23. cj29 says:

Jane the Virgin! hilarious new show. totally fresh and exciting.
