Friends Is Coming to Netflix — Watch the Star-Studded Announcement

Does it feel like your Netflix account is always stuck in second gear? Does that metaphor even make sense? It doesn’t matter, because Friends is (finally!) coming to Netflix.

The streaming giant announced Wednesday that all 10 seasons of the NBC sitcom — including the “lost” episodes where Joey and Rachel become a thing — will be available beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

And in honor of this major shift in the cosmos, Netflix has put together a special musical announcement, featuring two familiar voices… and one familiar, platinum-haired barista.

So, Friends, which episodes do you plan to watch first? Drop a comment with your top picks below.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

    • Charlie from Revolution STINKS says:

Ugh. While I’m glad that I’ll have access to Friends via NetFlix, I wish they’d load more movies instead. I mean, they might as well change their name to NetShows or NetTV …

OK, I own all the DVDs and have rewatched the entire series twice since the show ended in 2004 and this news STILL made me really happy! I always love spending some time with my favorite Friends! =D

  9. Jackie says:

“Lost” episodes of Joey and Rachel? How are any of them lost when I’ve recently seen them in reruns on tv?

  10. Yoki says:

Golden Girls, All in the Family…

  11. jschwartz15 says:

Anyone else think that trailer was trying to make it look like an 11th Netflix season? If I hadn’t read the headline beforehand I would have been really disappointed!

  12. Paula says:

It has been in Latinamerica Netflix for quite sometime. Good news for you US.

  13. Babybop says:

I own all ten seasons and I’m still ridiculously excited. And you can’t call those “lost” epsiodes, considering they include “The One Where Ross is Fine” and “The One With the Fake Tan”.

  14. Brandon says:

    Star-studded announcement? Huh.

  15. Drew says:

The only downside is that it will be too late for Thanksgiving.

  16. Dennis says:

I hope it’s the full episdodes and not the crap they released on bluray!

  17. Ann VerWiebe says:

Will it be the full-length original eps or the edited for syndication versions? This is going to be great!

  18. Liz says:

Yay! The quality better be good. This show is still everywhere. Nick, TBS

  19. ncmacasl says:

Gunther + 2 Rembrandts + The Gunther Cup does NOT equal “Star Studded”. Random pictures of the “Friends” don’t count!!

  20. Big Mike says:

“Lost episodes”? Someone educate me please?

  21. Sasha says:

LOVE! I mean even though I have all 10 seasons on DVD. LOL

  22. Eric says:

Okay, this is kind of cool I guess. But the real question is whether or not Netflix will get the two seasons of Joey. Now THAT would get the public in a tizzy.

    • starfang0 says:

I don’t think they will take the risk, considering the infamous status as “bad spin-off” (Kauffman and Crane didn’t planned that either).
Although, if the series will be succesfull (and it WILL), they will re-considering to put Joey for the harcore fans’ sake and I wouldn’t mind that (it was a great mouthwash after HIMYM’s fiasco).

I’m really happy for this news, as well the possibility to add Seinfeld.

  23. kd86953 says:

    THANK YOU JESUS.

  24. pamela says:

this is great but i’ve already seen most of the episodes live or during the many many repeats on many many channels.

  25. tony says:

That seemed to say USA and Canada in the small print. You didn’t mention that!

  26. Diana says:

I’ve had the whole DVD box set for years (and researched multiple times in the last decade) but this is still exciting.

  27. Add Titus. Such an ahead-of-its-time series.

  28. lena says:

is this for both canadian and us netflix or us only??

  29. Allie says:

FINALLY!!!! I own all the DVDs but now I can watch on my computer whenever I want! THANK YOU Netflix!!!!

  30. Jeleisa Forbes-Lowry says:

Thrilled (!) but I’m still waiting on Will & Grace. I can get Friends on many networks but W & G is a rare gem.

I hate that the bulk of their listings can be found on current Tv, when it would make sense to offer shows that are now, either, hard to find or no longer aired. I really wished they’ d take the consumers’ interest into consideration and what a handful of marketers think is best.
Why pay an additional 8.00/ month for programming I can currently get with my 90.00/month cable provider?

  31. Hardly a “star-studded announcement” though

  32. Ehm.

All seasons of Friends is already available on the Norwegian Netflix.
I’d say you guys are very late to the party. :P
