Longmire Cancelled by A&E — Might Another Network Lasso the Drama?

Longmire Cancelled

Looks like we may never find out who got gunned down out there by the skeet range.

TVLine has learned that A&E has cancelled Longmire, which ended its third season earlier this month. The sad news comes almost a year to the day after A&E pulled the plug on The Glades after four seasons.

“We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling,” reads a statement from A&E. “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”

Sources tell TVLine that producer Warner Horizon will shop the Wyoming-set crime drama to other networks.

Longmire wrapped Season 3 with an audience of 3.7 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating, down 16 and 45 percent from its sophomore finale.

  1. Dave says:

Bummer… I actually liked this one.

  2. Nessie says:

Aww damn, I love Longmire. This is really sad.

  3. Margaret says:

Damnit – I love this show.

  4. Sam says:

Usually I’m not happy about a show getting cancelled unless it’s aggressively stupid or offensive (i.e. Dads, 2.5 Men, a crapton of reality shows). But I was not a fan of this and now Katee Sackhoff can be in something I have some interest in! Oh happy day!

  5. wrstlgirl says:

    PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!

  6. Disappointed says:

Man, this was a great show. This is why I don’t like to get invested it shows….

  7. suzyku says:

A&E officially sucks! Longmire was an excellent show and I hope that TNT or USA or someone is smart enough to pick it up!

    • amadeline says:

Ditto. I really hope it gets picked up. I loved it. A&E used to be a great networks, but it keeps sliding farther and farther downhill. There’s definitely no Arts or Entertainment to it any more. Many of their shows are now more in the Awful and E gads category!

      • Angry says:

Have to agree amadeline and add the rest of their programming is stick a fork in my eye before I waste any time watching the rest of their shows.

      • I really think A & E has finally pulled the plug on themselves! Several yrs ago they cancelled “The Glades”, the next stupid move was to attack “DUCK D”, now they have cancelled Longmire!? Makes people wonder who or what lame idiot is running that network. Greed, is one thing all networks suffer from, CEO’s that make more money that they can ever spend plus all their “PERKS”. Unreallistic goals that no show can reach, or another good one is changing the time slot and/or the day will air, either is almost a kiss of death for a show no matter how good or bad it is! I and many others hope “LONGMIRE” get picked up by another network and shows just how right the viewing public is in our opinions!!

        • faye hinds says:

          My feelings exactly!!!

        • JayJay says:

“The Glades” sucked, though (and yes, I watched the whole show – and by the end I was hate-watching). The only good characters were Daniel and Carlos – Jim was an insufferable arse and Callie was one of the most hated characters on the show (second only to Jim himself). Just look at some of the reviews! “[Callie is] nasal, whiny, and dramatic. […] [She] is irrelevant and she gets on your nerves, […] obnoxious, annoying and needs to be written out. […] If she’s back in [season three], then we’ll seriously consider not watching.” If you want an example of a GOOD detective show that got cancelled – look at Damian Lewis’ “Life”.

        • Jeanne Weinberger says:

Good news, . Netflix announced on 11/19/14 that they will film Season 4 of Longmire (and hopefully more). Every Saturday the Posse watches episodes of Longmire and live Tweet. Everyone is invited. #LongLiveLongmire

      • Lexi says:

Thank you!!! Your comment was on point and funny. LONGMIRE was the only reason I watched A&E. They are not A&E as they now cater to the D&D set (dumb &dumber)

        • barbaramorningstar says:

I agree. A&E should change their channel name to D&D for “Dumb and Dumber” for their roster of so-called “reality” shows. The only two quality shows they had were The Glades and Longmire. They cancelled The Glades with Jim lying in a pool of blood. Now we will never know if Branch lived or have the other loose ends tied up in Longmire (that is unless another channel picks up this fine show). I will never watch another show on A&E, period.

          • Dana says:

You are so right.. I feel exactly the same way. I couldn’t believe they cancelled Glades and now Longmire…I will never watch another show on A&E…

      • Bahahahah! I so agree with you. No Longmire, but days and weeks of Duck Dynasty…what the hell?

        • Diana says:

I am so tired of Duck Dynasty I no longer watch that show. Actually now that A&E cancelled Longmire I won’t be watching their network. #LongLiveLongmire

      • Dalon1013 says:

Now that’s cleaver….”There’s definitely no Arts or Entertainment to it any more. Many of their shows are now more in the Awful and E gads category!” I hate the so-called reality shows. Longmire is totally awesome. We binge-watched to get up to speed and then they leave us with this huge cliff hanger. I’m going to email my displeasure over at A&E…it probably won’t do any good but maybe someone else will pick it up. I certainly hope so!

      • Cat says:

Years ago A&E was one of the channels I watched on a regular basis, they were one of the best. They had such a class line up, thank goodness I can get a lot of those shows on DVD at the library. As a matter of fact, the librarians there also watched Longmire and we would discuss the episodes, they were the ones that turned me on to the books, I have read all but one. It had a long hold waiting list as did most of the others, but they were all worth the wait, just goes to show you how popular even the books are. I think it might be time for A&E to change their name because they certainly don’t come close to being arts & entertainment anymore.

    • jim says:

I agree with you….I mean look at S of A…NEVER nominated for an emmy, now cable cancels another excellent show…tells you who runs that place.

    • goosy says:

      Hope your right

    • boblosan says:

I agree – Longmire was our family’s favorite show!

    • tim says:

A&E most likely put another fake reality show on. how much of that crap can you take

    • alma stapp says:

I agree with your statement about t nt or usa picking Longmire up it was a great show just like glades

      • susanj says:

the actor from Glades didn’t waste any time getting another show. Who wants to watch a show full of cheating sex? Does that make sense? I really didn’t care for Glades. He couldn’t make up his mind about getting married and she cared more about her career than him anyway.

        • lsperling says:

I’m really sorry they cancelled Longmire. I really liked that show. As for the Glades, I lost interest after the second season. I found it hard to listen to that nasal voice Callie had and her vasillating back and forth which was more important – her career or her love life. Yes, he’s now on a soft porn show – just what TV needs, more sex.

          • susanj says:

I think one of the reason cable and regular channels put on shows where the people are stupid make the general public feel they are smarter or their lives are better. Too many shows where the rich are getting richer for airing their dirty laundry. Even the Wahlburg family is getting richer, actors and running restuarants and now getting paid to be stupid on tv. What happened to all the good quality shows from 40-50 years ago. Series, maybe not reality but good stories that kept your interest. Now all channels with reality shows. Who cares about people needing to lose over 100 lbs? Or someone looking for a bride or groom to get married and then don’t. Or all the rich Housewives and their cat fights. Just watching the commercials is annoying!!!!!!!

          • lsperling says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. I can’t abide any of those reality shows. I guess I’m satisfied enough with my own life. :) I was raised in a time when you didn’t air your dirty laundry in public. Well written shows are more expensive to make than reality shows, so the good dramas wind up tossed under the bus. There are some really good shows on USA and TNT – it would be great if one of them picked up Longmire.

          • susanj says:

I guess it is cheaper to just put a bunch of cameras up to tape all the idiots on the reality shows compared to a scripted show. All they have to do is edit in all the “good” stuff they talk about. All the old shows of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s may have not been “real” like Get Smart or man from UNCLE or Batman or Six Million Man but at least they were entertaining. Now they expect people to watch rich witches fight and whatever else they do on those shows. Just having to watch the commercials for those shows puts me off.

    • Brian Atkins says:

Yes TNT would be a great fit or even FX, a couple of network with some real balls that will push the envelope with what is true to life…

    • hope so to lovee this program pisses me of done with A & E

  8. Darlene says:

Disappointed, that was one of my favorite shows

  9. Duke says:

One hour of quality programming was apparently too much for A&E, who I imagine will soon be rebranded as “The Duck Dynasty Network.”

  10. Leanora Ybarra says:

I am so sorry to see Longmire canceled…..I loved the show

  11. Amanda says:

Really sad about this. It was a good show and had a great cast. And it was left on a cliffhanger :(

  12. Sandy Lynn Stevens says:

NOOOOOOOO! I love this show; it was one of the highlights of my week. So sad. I think it didn’t fit into a neat and easy genre so they didn’t know how to publicize it. It was so well acted and written and the characters were so unique and interesting. Going from sad to mad!

    • Gayle Reed says:

I so totally agree with you. It makes me mad when I really get into a show and of course they cancel. I don’t get it. Why, what about just having agreat show, fresh writing and some new actors on TV, getting a break along with Lou Diamond Phillips, I just loved him in his role, and Robert Taylor, not my all time actor of years ago, but I liked this guy, Sexy for a older hero and Dad. Yeah he is sexy and I am 76. So lets write A&E and get a facebook campaign going. We can do it. Thanks

  14. Mickey Lane says:

Why would you cancel a good show like Longmeijer and keep some of the crap that is on TV now. I swear I’m going to stop watching tv since it seems all the shows my husband and I like are cancelled.

  15. Paula says:

A&e keeps cancelling all the good shows. They need to just cancel themselves.

    • Lexi says:

Totally agree!!!! They cancel Longmire but wait their new series is the life of Brandy and husband from storage wars… wow real a&e classy programming

      • Christy says:

So true! I don’t need TV to watch someone bicker with her immature husband. Longmire is a quality show and I’m really hoping that it’s picked up by another network. A & E has nothing to offer me anymore.

    • Shelley says:

Ha! It sure looks like that is their true intention. Close their doors for good. All I know is I’m done with that network. They have shown they have no class or knowledge of how to entertain people. All they seem to care about is cheap entertainment. And that is not saying much. I guess, they feel so many people liked Duck Dynasty so well, they would stick with that formula. Well, looking at all these comments just here on this forum, they need to reconsider their decision/ or gaff. If more and more people make a stand about this, then there might be hope that Longmire might get picked by another network. Some of you have made good ideas. USA or FX or even CW. TNT. Well, I’ll be watching netflix all the back episodes of Longmire instead of the junk that A&E shows.

    • Diana says:

I cancelled A&E today. I changed my TV package.

  16. Kayline says:

ugh, this is one reason I hate to get into cable shows, especially, they leave us hanging in the worst way.

  17. Bill Cord says:

It is unbelievable that A&E cancelled Longmire. One of the best shows on TV

  18. Well, it didn’t outlive The Glades by long. I’m never getting into another show airing on A&E. They cancel shows without giving their fans any resolution and that soured the whole cable to me.

  19. Carol Lahey says:

They always take off the good shows and leave garbage on like The Simpsons which insult my intelligence! With shows like Longmire you have to pay attention and you might learn something and you can’t wait for the next episode. This cancellation is WRONG!!!

  20. Steve F. says:

Wait, whaaaaaat?!? Not only will we see why Walt’s wife got whacked, we’ll never know who got shot on the shooting range…so not cool, A&E. May the next reality show you order into production (which, let’s admit it, was the reason why Longmire got cancelled – cheaper than scripted TV) go down in flames.

  21. Pat Motnalvo says:

A&E Why did you cancel this series was great & at least you could have ended it with letting the viewers know who was gunned down…Now I will never watch your channel again [you cancel Glades & that was a good series] But yet there is still so many series/shows that are horrible junk let on TV to watch, Shame on your A&E decision makers…SMH

  22. David4 says:

They clearly haven’t learned from their Breaking Bad days.

  23. Mary Willis says:

Loved Longmire just like I loved The Glades – probably won’t invest in any further shows on this channel. So, pretty pissed off!

  24. me says:

Enjoyed it. Afraid it will be replace with a no-brain–who gives a sh**t faux cheapo reality that no one will admit to watching ever.

  25. AFan says:

This stinks. Two years in a row A&E cancels a show that ends with a major cliff hanger. The Glades was an decent show but Longmire was one of the best shows on television.

That is the last A&E show I will ever watch.

  26. Donna says:

So upset..so few shows of a current Western version..so different and well-done..no doubt A&E will now add one more horrible Reality Show!

  27. Elizabeth says:

I remember the days when the bulk of A & E programming was high quality. Looks like THAT’s all over. I hope that some other venue (listen up, Netflix) has the since to pick up Longmire. I loved the show.

  28. Jim Clayton says:

    Bad News..really enjoyed.
Hope USA, TNT, FX will see 3.7 mil
Viewers and a quality show and cast as a value add turnkey and pick them up.

    • Gayle Reed says:

Oh I sure hope so. Honestly they cancelled the Glades and now the Actor of that show is now in a show called I think “SATISFIED” and its all about Sex and sex clubs and adultery and not fit for TV. So many Shows are really Crossing the Line I dont know how they are getting away with it. Love Graceland and Covert Affairs but they have been really crossing the lines with their Sex act scenes in leaving no room for the Imagination and you don’t know its coming till it there and your getting embarrassed. What is it people not having their own sex that they got to get it from over sexual scenes on the Tube? This is really getting to me. If people need to visually see sex acts then go to HBO, SHOWTIME AND other Cable shows. Speak your words. Longmire Upset Fan.

      • TV-Series Junkie says:

saying that people who like sex scenes in tv shows are only those who don’t have sex in real life is strange and even insulting
It seems you have a problem with sex even either just very conservative or a religous freak
hell shows like covert affairs and graceland almost don’t have any sex at all
adultery?? not fit for TV? go back to medieval times

      • SherryB says:

Totally agree with you on this..The sexual content of primetime television is horrible, as is the offensive language. USA Network shows are really bad now with both. I watched 1 episode of Satisfaction with Matt Passmore and haven’t watched another, it was disgusting..I loved THe Glades and Longmire but A&E took care of them both, now I took care of A&E by cancelling their channel from my line-up..Never again will I watch A&E..

      • N Goad says:

You said that so well. Thanks. I’m sick an tired of all the sex they stick in shows. We don’t need to see all this trash they are showing. Ever shows has to have a sex scene to get the attention(so they think). What happened to to peoples imagination..

        • lsperling says:

The show is actually called Satisfaction. A really stupid premise and it’s as close to porn as you an get and not have the FCC come down on your.

        • lsperling says:

The show is actually called Satisfaction. A really stupid premise and it’s as close to porn as you can get and not have the FCC come down on your.

      • Janice says:

i agree. Those who choose sex sex and more sex are those who are perverts and need their heads sent to a shrink that knows how ro explain morality to these coke head idiots that choose shows for the population of the U.S.

  29. Bk says:

No no no. Longmire is excellent. Please reconsider and continue on with the saga. Longmire is good TV.
We always look forward to each episode.

  30. ... says:

Not sure why anybody would be shocked. It was barely renewed last year and it slipped in the ratings this year. The creative team was in the wrong for not tying things up since they knew they were a bubble-at-best show and that they wouldn’t have an original scripted lead-in with the cancellation of The Glades – a bubble show trying to cliffhanger their way into another season very, very, very rarely works.

  31. mrmcc916 says:

Note to self…never watch a drama on A&E they cancel the good stuff too soon and keep the crap reality shows(Duck Dynasty, Wahlburgers, Storage Wars).

  32. Jahojo says:

First The Glades and now Longmire … I’ll never watch another series on the A&E network EVER.

  33. mary moore says:

Hate they are doing this, guess they have to make room for more of their crappy reality shows that only the brain dead watch!

  34. Marco says:

A&E sure loves cancelling shows on a cliffhanger, does it? I hope another network gets it… and I’m fearing for ‘Bates Motel’…

    • Et al says:

I’m am so scared for Bates getting a proper send off and I have been since A&E rebranded themselves as a network that almost exclusively features white trash reality. The good news is that we can always watch Psycho and pretend it’s the series finale.

    • Angela says:

Yeah, I’m hoping “Bates Motel” won’t get the same fate now, too, but considering the channel’s track record…eek!
Sorry to all “Longmire” fans out there for losing a show you liked. Here’s hoping some other network will pick it up.

  35. PJL says:

This is really disappointing news. I remember when A&E really was an Arts and Entertainment network. What a shame that a quality drama no longer has a place on their schedule. Guess having a show in the top 25 cable shows isn’t good enough for them.

    • Angela says:

I was just thinking the same thing about this being the Arts & Entertainment network in the past. That’s over now. I feel like this program could move to FX and it would be fine. Even if Netflix picked it up and gave it 6 episodes like they did for The Killing I would be happy.

  36. This was such a great show – I am sad.

  37. Liz says:

I’m really upset this awesome show got cancelled. It was different from all the other cookie cutter shows now playing. I hope the cast does other shows. I really liked all of them.

  38. SylentMari says:

My family got me into this show as they are big fans of it and wanted to spread the word. I would watch it with them and greatly enjoyed it, and especially seeing our beautiful NM landscape on display. “Longmire” is a show that’s not normally my cup-of-tea, but that acting was terrific and I really loved the storyline. Sad to see it go, but hope another network pics it up soon.

  39. johnhelvete says:

Show had an excellent third season and I am surprised because I thought a renewal was close to a sure thing. The cliffhanger ending stings a little but it was not that terrible of a series ending.

  40. Jennifer says:

One of the few shows on tv that could entertain everyone in our family, we always made sure to watch it with our teenagers. They even put their phones away to watch it! Too bad quality always gets set aside for cheaper reality shows that only show everyone how they shouldn’t behave.

  41. Mickey says:

The only decent show on TV and it gets cancelled. Unbelieveable.

  42. fhl says:

Quit cancelling good shows!!! Absolutely loved Longmire!

  43. auntiemm says:

Stupid, stupid stupid A&E. Cancel a good and unique show like this for yet more ‘reality’ garbage. Should’ve known its days were numbered with only a 10 episode season.

  44. Jenn says:

One of my (very few) favorite shows!! I hope some smart network picks this up!!

  45. Maleea says:

I will stop watching AE. I loved the Glades and I loved Longmire. I don’t understand why they cancelled. People were watching.

  46. sarah j says:

It is the Glades all over again! We get a major cliffhanger and then A&E cancels it!
I guess A&E wants to just go with its reality shows, sorry A&E you are losing more viewers!

  47. First they leave us hanging with the Glades now Longmire! Pissed! Not investing in any new shows on this network, guess they are sticking with crap like DD.

  48. John says:

    Bugger! I liked Longmire.

No reason to watch A&E now.

  49. Enri4513 says:

    Please Netflix pick this up!!

    • Sure hope some smart network or Netflix. Keep comments coming if you are disappointed in cancellation of Longmire!!! We fans need to be heard!

    • CJ says:

I’d love to see a deal like AMC made with Netflix for the final season of The Killing. Since Netflix doesn’t release streaming numbers it’s hard to know how well the earlier seasons have done on there, but I know quite a few people who discovered it on there. It’s terrible to see a quality show like this canceled in favor of more cheap, stupid, “reality” shows.

  50. John Moshier says:

great show and they renew crap I guess duck dynasty ratings matter maybe somebody will pick them up

    • Bob Metts says:

Lonmire was The Best Show on T.V. excellent Actors, Great Characters and Story Lines.Make our Voices heard, Fight for another network to pick it up.

      • Jan says:

Bob, you are so right, we have to keep Longmire going, EXCELLENT show! #LongLiveLongmire.

        • Jody Gosline says:

all the good shows seem to get canceled put it back on

          • carol says:

I agree. Longmire was a real good show. Finally a decent show and they take it off. Shame on you. Where are their heads. My father is 92 and really looked forward to watching what he called a good cowboy show.

          • paul r isaacs says:

LONGMIRE was best show you came out with the numbers show its better than madmen, bring it back you have had over a million complaints and i’ll boycott a&e till it comes back why you think people get satelite its show like this,i watched all that was on net flix and will buy the dvds, your loss, someone in charge needs to step down ,he or she has no common sense if it isnt broken dont fix or cancell it.
