Emmys 2014: Scandal, OITNB and Masters of Sex Stars, True Detective, Bob's Burgers Among Early Winners

The Emmys are here!

No, we’re not talking about the 2014 Primetime Emmys broadcast — you’ll have to wait till next Monday, Aug. 25 at 8/7c for that — but rather, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were just handed out at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

All told, for the first round of Emmy-awarding, HBO — which this year amassed 99 total nominations — is on top with 15 total wins, followed by NBC (10), PBS (8) and Fox and Netflix (with 7 each).

  1. MattArmando says:

YES! SO happy for Joe Morton finally getting recognized for his work!

  2. Miranda says:

    Yay for Bob’s Burgers!
I’d love it if they did a meta episode about the Emmys or awards in general next season.

    • ScrubsGuy says:

Is this the category which means “best cartoon”? So glad BB’s getting the recognition. There are lots of excellent animated series which are also deserving – Archer, American Dad, Venture Bros, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, Adventure Time – just to name a few. BB – you truly are the Futurama of 2014! (ref: a great series on Fox getting the shaft by being put in the 7:30 pm Sunday slot)

    • murley says:

Happy to see bob’s burgers get the recognition it deserves. Excellent show with an excellent voice cast!

  3. Thrilled that Joe Morton won! So long overdue!

  4. Hamza says:

Extremely disappointed that Joe Morton won the award. His dialogue style in each and every episode, to every person, was the same condescending tone one. Dylan Baker or Beau Bridges for me were much much better.

    • Jerry says:

I do find it a bit robotic and repetitive (almost Margaret Thatcher style, emphasizing every other syllable) after 18 episodes, but since the prize is for guest acting in a single episode (and if you don’t take into account him being in almost every episode), I guess it’s still pretty outstanding, if one looks at the character and dialogue itself for the single episode.

  5. Coal says:

Does anybody know which episode Morton submitted ?

  6. Zoe says:

There really should be some way to watch this live.

  7. Sara says:

Allison Janney YES! Such a well deserved award, she is heartbreakingly brilliant on Masters of Sex (and equally amazing in Mom, hope she wins that one too!)

  8. Kae says:

    Bob’s Burgers sucks

  9. MattArmando says:

Ah, and Nathan Lane strikes out yet again for honor for MODERN FAMILY. Sad.

    • Mike says:

I AGREE!!!! Love Jimmy Fallon, but Nathan Lane losing AGAIN is travesty!

    • I kind of hate Nathan Lane in every comedic thing he’s done since that terrible show Encore. He’s basically just doing a bad Liberace impression every time. His dramatic performances, on the other hand, those are like from a completely different actor. One with skills. Love him on The Good Wife.

  10. Eliza says:

I love Allison Janney & Joe Morton (Eureka ♡)…. so, yay, congrats to them!

  11. G-Mom says:

I like Jane Lynch on Hollywood Game Night, but I am SO disappointed that Cat Deeley didn’t win for SYTYCD! She is an awesome and perfect host!

  12. Kay says:

    Yay to Papa Pope!

  13. JON says:

Thought Laverne Cox had it in the bag but Uzo deserves it too!

    • dan says:

Laverne has said in interviews that she knew Uzo would win. They are both outstanding on OITNB! Congrats Crazy Eyes!

  14. big cheddar says:

SYTYCD and The Colbert Report won! Yippeee!

  15. Arlene says:

These awards should be shown to us live durimg the Emmy’s. What we’re left with is a lot of celebrity guff and commercials for the upcoming fall season. Show us the craft and crew, what makes television work. Not everything is glitz and glitter.

  16. Polly says:

Aaand obviously @midnight gets robbed by Fallon.
Silly me thinking they would give the award to something new and actually funny.

  17. radmcawesome says:

Joe Morton totally deserves that award!
Can someone explain to me why the guest actor/ actress Emmy’s are announced during the Creative Arts Emmy’s and not during prime time? It just seems odd to me.

  18. S. from A. says:

I am soooo disappointed that the Emmy for choreography is once more not part of the main show )=
On the other hand: YEAH for Tabitha and Napoleon! So great to see them getting honored (=

  19. RJ says:

    Happy for Jimmy Fallon

  20. KC says:

Happy for Jane Lynch! I love Hollywood Game Night!

  21. I was trying to figure out how the heck Fallon won, but considering how lousy most of the season was it was a lot easier to stand out. Plus, clearly the right people like him given some of the competition he’s crushed in the past.

Don’t dislike the guy or anything but had an instinctive, “Really?” when I saw his name.

  22. Kim R says:

Bigger!! Yes! I still watch that on YouTube. That Tony Awards show was fantastic!

  23. Sylvia says:

Why hasn’t BONES ever been nominated for an EMMY! I think its all fixed. Bones is going into its 10th season and never an EMMY.

    • Polly says:

let’s just learn to deal with the fact that not all that deserve awards win one.
case and point: The Wire. never won an emmy too and yet it’s still one of the top 10 shows of all time.

  24. Joey Padron says:

Happy Jimmy, SNL, Fargo, The Blacklist, HIMYM, and Orange Is The New Black won last night.

  25. Laurie says:

Joe Morton is awesome as Olivia’s dad. Well done.

  26. JON says:

    Jane Lynch really???
