Powerpuff Girls Reboot

Cartoon Network on Monday announced plans to bring back one of its most beloved series, proving that good things really do come in small packages — and in threes.

The Powerpuff Girls, which originally ran from 1998 to 2005, will return as a brand-new series slated to begin in 2016.

Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup were last seen fighting crime in a one-off special that aired in January.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* Yanked from ABC’s midseason schedule in January after just two episodes, The Assets is returning with new installments beginning Saturday at 9/8c. This weekend’s episode will find the CIA and FBI attempting to bring Edward Lee Howard (Doctor Who‘s Jonjo O’Neill) to justice.

Anthony Anderson (Guys With Kids) will host the new Food Network series Food Fest Nation, premiering July 21 at 9/8c. The series will follow Anderson as he travels around the country, sampling local specialties at various food festivals.

Home for Dinner With Jamie Deen, hosted by the son of cooking legend Paula Deen, will not be getting a third season on Food Network, per the New York Post.

* Game of Thrones‘ Season 4 finale on Sunday night drew 7.1 million total viewers, up 32 percent from the previous finale. For the season, Thrones was up 37 percent.

* Gravity Falls Season 2 will premiere Friday, Aug. 1 on Disney Channel, and Monday, Aug. 4 on Disney XD.

  1. I’m curious to see what form this incarnation of the PPG takes. More of the same, or would they consider it making it more serious, have them grow up, etc?

  2. the girl says:

Powerpuff Girls! I loved that show. I almost wish I had kids so I could justify watching it. But who am I kidding, I’m still going to watch it.

  3. Amanda says:

I figured Jamie and Bobby were probably going to end up on Paula’s new online network anyway.

  4. Avinash says:

I hope they don’t use the same animation from the special from January.

    • Patrick says:

They probably will. And they will probably dumb it down significantly. The Teen Titans reboot is a joke. That reboot is more like looney toons than its initial iteration.

  5. Elga Nelly says:

Yay for PPG and Gravity Falls ! Finally they are airing the 2nd season.

  6. dan f says:

Dexter’s Lab! Dexter’s Lab! Bring it back too!

  7. This design is steller! You definitely know how to keep a
reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well,
almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and
more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
