Switched at Birth's Katie Leclerc Previews Daphne's Big Lip-Lock, 'Sexy' Dance Moves
Switched at Birth runneth over with love interests, a situation that will become blatantly clear to Daphne as she juggles not one, but two potential paramours on Monday’s kisstastic episode (airing at 8/7c).
But will she lock lips with taken clinic intern Campbell? Or will supervisor Jorge bring back feelings of home and steal her heart?
Below, the ABC Family drama’s star Katie Leclerc reveals how a sexy dance number will help Daphne navigate her love triangle.
TVLINE | What’s coming up for Daphne?
Daphne has reconnected with John. After she feels like her father loves her again, she’s able to focus more of her attention on the free clinic. There’s an episode coming up that’s really pivotal for Daphne. She ends up saving a life. She feels like, “Oh my gosh, I could be a doctor some day.” It’s something that she wants to look into pursuing. So there’s some changes for Daphne. Everybody always thought [her path was in the] kitchen and cooking and being a chef. But she’s starting to realize maybe her future could be a little more expanded than that, not that she’s changing gears or anything. She’s keeping her options open.
TVLINE | Not to make light of her saving a life, but there’s also some cute boys at this clinic.
[Laughs] You know it! It’s ABC Family, after all. [Laughs] Campbell (played by Breaking Bad‘s RJ Mitte) is great. He’s a daredevil. He’s adventurous. He is wheelchair-bound, but he is resilient in his adrenaline-seeking ways. He’s so exciting. And then there’s Jorge (David Castaneda), who is sweet and kind. He’s a little more homey and reminds Daphne of East Riverside and what it was like to be part of a community. She’s got two really good options right now. At this point, I don’t know which way the show is going to take us.
TVLINE | In the previews, it looks like the next episode is an important one for her and Campbell.
It’s crazy. We were watching last night, and my fiancé goes, “It’s a kissing episode, isn’t it?” I go, “Yeah…” and he goes, “Ugh, I don’t even want to watch!” [Laughs] Daphne and Campbell are kind of expanding, but Campbell has a girlfriend, and what are you going to do about that? She wants it to be clean. She doesn’t want to get [his girlfriend] Gretchen involved or for there to be any hurt feelings or any regrets looking back. At this point, she’s leaning a little bit more towards Jorge just mostly because Campbell’s taken. So [Campbell] has to figure that out if there’s going to be any connection.
TVLINE | There’s a dancing episode coming up. Are you going to show off some moves?
I loved our dancing episode. It was so much fun. I get to do a salsa dance. It was like a minute-and-a-half-long dance. I think it’s one of the longer dances in the episode. It was great. I wasn’t a dancer, but I can learn choreography rather quickly. It was very freeing to not have to worry about lines that day. We shot for probably six or seven hours [for] just the one dance number. It was a great day. It was so much fun. There’s some pretty sexy leg kicks and twists and dips and turns. I can’t wait for people to see it.
TVLINE | Some of the dances are part of the storylines, and some are fantasy sequences. What’s the context for Daphne’s?
It is not real life. She’s dreaming.
TVLINE | Dreaming of dancing with a boy?
Maybe even two boys… This love triangle goes deep, even to her dreams. [Laughs]
