The conceit: When three teenage girls star in a pornographic film, it tears their families apart and leads to a disappearance, a murder and host of other secrets boiling under the surface in a small town.

Carpenter will play Leah, a driven FBI agent brought in to investigate the disappearance.

Based on the Dutch series Vuurzee, the pilot was penned by Scandal‘s Jenna Bans, who will serve as an exec producer alongside Rob Golenberg, Laurie Zaks, Alon Aranya, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, Robert Kievit, and Frank Ketelaar.

    • Haha, I was about to say the exact same thing. I don’t know how she’s gonna be able to handle not dropping F bombs left and right. :P

  • Yes yes yes!!! I’ve been waiting to see her again. Miss her so much. Hope this show is not a bomb.

  • Damn it. Now we can’t play the Jennifer Carpenter swearing/drinking game. She got a lot of us drunk during most of the “Dexter” episodes.

  • Cool premise. Hopefully it’s picked up.

  • Not only is she THE Jennifer Carpenter, but she is also starring in the single pilot premise that caught my attention thus far. If this doesnt get picked up, I am going to sob.

  • Great just when I thought this was a pilot I could get excited for. Now I’m really not sure if I’ll check this one out if it makes the cut. However I feel this series would be a better fit on cable not ABC

  • I was excited for Sea of Fire based on the premise alone. Now I’m pretty darn stoked for it.

    • Addendum: Was freaking in love with Twin Peaks, and I could see Jennifer Carpenter playing a role similar to Peggy Lipton’s character, Norma, from Twin Peaks. Granted, I wouldn’t want a complete remake of the show, but since the article made the comparison, so here I give my two cents. :P

  • I think this is a hard sell premise for abc peeps. Unless it is just pristine in its implementation, I think this will just not work. I always saw her in a comedy role…Dex while serious, was also a dark comedy. Or something unexpected…like a role in Game of Thrones….then she could drop any curses…Id want her to be like the person that trains arya although in the books that was a guy but who cares faceless men/women… f nugget

    • I would be happy if she appeared on Game of Thrones and just swore the whole time.

  • So happy she found a new gig. Big fan of hers!

  • I wonder what they mean by “the Lead”. Obviously she’s not one of the teenage girls. Is she a mother? A Detective? A reporter?

    • Per the article, “Carpenter will play Leah, a driven FBI agent brought in to investigate the disappearance.”

      • Okay so she’s basically the Agent Dale Cooper of the new millennium.

  • The pilot doesn’t really interest me but I’m glad she will be back on TV. I’ve always like her.

  • Nice! A comparison to Twin Peaks will pull me in alone, but adding Jennifer Carpenter as a lead just seals thr deal.

  • I know it’s unfashionable of me but I hope she doesn’t swear so much. I found it difficult to watch her in Dexter because of the language. BTW I’s say the same if her character was a guy.

    • She won’t be able to swear since the show’s on ABC…

  • Vuurzee was a really great show. [One of the few good Dutch shows. I can also recommend 'Van God Los'] I’m so excited that they are going to remake it for a larger audience. I hope it keeps the feeling of the Dutch version.

  • The last season of Dexter was some of the worst TV in existence. That said, I wish her luck; good actress.

  • Some folks crack me up! Do you really think that Jennifer Carpenter was the one dropping the f bombs in Dexter or the character of Deborah Morgan? Get real! This show sounds great to me because I’m a big-time Twin Peaks fan as well as a fan of Jennifer. I hope this show is written well and will be a big hit and last longer than Twin Peaks did.

  • The original Dutch series was a huge succes with both viewers and critics. I Really hope america does not F this up like they did with Red Widow and Betrayal. Excited to see Jennifer back on tv.
