Ten Commandments Miniseries WGN“How do you like ‘dem tablets?”

Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting), Lee Daniels (Lee Daniels’ The Butler), Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Michael Cera (Juno) and Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father) are among the directors signed on to each helm an installment in WGN America’s previously announced 10-episode Ten Commandments miniseries, it was announced Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Each filmmaker will offer up a “modern” riff on one commandment each — shall we pencil Craven in now for “Thou Shalt Not Kill”? — and assemble their own creative team in doing so. Academy Award winning producer Bruce Cohen (Silver Linings Playbook) and Bob Weinstein will produce.

“We are thrilled and honored to have filmmakers of this caliber as a part of this ambitious project, and thank Bruce Cohen and The Weinstein Company for bringing this diverse group of directors together,” WGN American president Matt Cherniss said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing what each of [them] has in store for the audience.”

No timetable was announced, though I’m going to wildly predict “in time for Passover 2015.”

So, it will be ten episodes about writing down on rocks?

  2. Swift says:

I give you these Fiftee….Ten! Ten Commandments!

  3. Craven’s installment has to be horror-based, otherwise it’s just a name (i.e. image) without the style (i.e. substance).

  4. Kendall says:

Oh, this could be alright. Your headline had me thinking they were going to do a remake of the film in miniseries form, which I’m sure would be horrible beyond belief.
