  • How does this show have series regulars?? Everyone dies!

  • Really? Ugh I hope this doesn’t mean more Dani focusing on how to pleasure Daario than moving forward with her takeover.

    • Hey, spoilers, not everyone has read the books!

      • Actually, from someone that HAS read the books, it seems to me that the original poster has not read them either…

  • wow, I didn’t even know that the daario part was being recast… I already felt connected to the old actor (not really)

  • Interesting. Having read the books, I can’t imagine him having a large enough role to justify becoming a regular. Nor do I want that much Daario.

    • *spoilerish*

As he is still alive in the books, that alone is a good enough reason to ink him in for season 5, but as we know being a series regular hardly means his role will be increased.

  • So long as this actor doesn’t have that annoying smirk on his face like the last one it’ll be an improvement

    • Agreed. Thank goodness they decided to recast.

      • I SO do not agree! He was gorgeous, had wonderful chemistry with Emila Clarke, and what a deep voice… That’s a shame.

  • I just learned of the name of a character I didn’t care enough about to learn their name, learned that said character’s portrayer is being replaced, and that the replacement is going to become a regular in the fifth season, which has not been announced yet. . . Mind blown!

    • really? did you read the books @Patrick Maloney, or are you just watching the show? are you hired to write letters ? or reviews? because that post you left on 1/0714 is so annoying. are you going to fill in the blanks for us? tease us? and it is for season 5?? lol

  • Huh? Sonny from Treme is taking over that role? But the other guy was so buff and good looking! Oh, that’s super uncool of you, Game of Thrones. What happened to the other actor?

  • When I saw the title of this article I thought it was Gwendoline Christie who will become a regular. Still, happy about the Daario recast.

  • So are they just going to pretend Huisman was Daario the whole time? Because I just hate when they do that

Comment by Hurley – January 8, 2014 01:44 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Oooh! Had no idea Daario was recast. But happy to see more of Michiel. I instantly perk up whenever I see him on my TV screen – SO handsome. Here’s hoping they don’t go the green beard route with this incarnation of Daario either.
Hoping this means he is still able to recur on Nashville and hopefully have a plum part in Orphan Black too.

  • I hate when they change actors. Not many are around long enough to warrant a casting change. Daario is so minor. What’s the point? the actor wasn’t so bad but hair makeup and wardrobe really dropped the ball and this and I’m sure three department heads didn’t do that without producer insisting on change. I think you could have bought the actor easier as daario if his appearance was as described in the book. I don’t related to the fan out cry that sparked this cast change.

  • I expect this means that we will be seeing more of Daario’s exploits during “A Dance With Dragons” which, in the book, occurred mostly “off screen”. Kind of like how they treated Robb Stark’s character in the show. In the books, you heard a lot about what Robb was up to, but you didn’t actually see him very much.
I hope beefing up the Daario character isn’t part of an attempt to forestall the inevitable, when the show catches up to the books. Anyone who thinks that Martin is going to finish his saga before the show gets there is living in a dream world.

  • From things I’ve read elsewhere GoT has to recast minor roles because the actor is not available any more. Or is now too old for for the part (in the case of Tommen).

  • I was a fan of Michiel Huisman on Nashville. When I heard he was taking a role in Games of Throne I bought the DVD for season 1. I am so glad I did I am now caught up on season 2 & 3 and ready for season 4

  • Here’s a better pic of the two Daarios for a comparison — just depends on your tastes really;

Micheal is Murderous Medici pretty & Ed is Vin Diesel/He-Man pretty…
    Bye Ed! We’ll miss ya!

    • Yeah, this comparison really eliminates Huisman as a contender. Examine the look on his face and the dull eyes, then look at the intensity on Skrein’s face, particularly *his* eyes. Wow. No contest there. Huisman is already a disappointment in this role. Nothing there for a queen to want.

  • Disappointed on the recast. Apparently there was backlash on ES playing Daario because his look did not match the look of Daario in the books, but I think that his chemistry with Emilia will be unmatched by this new guy. I liked the character of Daario and what Ed brought to him: suave, he-man attitude with the ability to be gentle. He was a nice mix of Drogo and Jorah. Shame they gave into a few rabid outcriers.

    • Cannot see why people thought Ed Skrein didn’t match the description in the books — was it the missing dye in the beard and hair – ??? He was the right physical type and had the right attitude for Naharis, probably as close as one could get to the book without the stupid beard dye and twisted mustache. Huisman won’t even come close, being far too skinny for Naharis.

Comment by MR Traska – January 10, 2014 08:06 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Unclear as to why Skrein had to be replaced. What’s the story on that?? At least he was right for Naharis, who is supposed to be big, challenging, intense and unapologetic. Next to him, Huisman looks short, scrawny, tame and completely unconvincing. Huisman is just absolutely the wrong physical type — it has nothing to do with acting chops, in this case. Bad casting decision.

  • Am I the only one who pictured Daario as a handsome black man while reading the books? Idris Elba, maybe. ::shrug::

Comment by AnnieM – January 12, 2014 09:17 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Nope…everyone I know (myself included) thought Daario was a black guy when we read the books…my sister and I were shocked when we saw him as a white jock type in the show lol

Comment by Alex – January 20, 2014 05:13 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • As much as I had my personal reservations regarding the dude playing Daario in Season 3 (he felt like a true “soap opera” type of addition….wasn’t feeling it so much.), this is a fairly dramatic change of casting. I think the “Treme” guy they’ve cast is a great actor, but it’ll take some getting used to, I think. Does anyone know why the role was recast? I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere.
