Happy Birthday, TVLine: Revisiting Our 10 Biggest Scoops From the Past Three Years

Get More: Lists

Although I still think we could pass for two-and-a-half (even two, depending on the lighting), TVLine is, as of today, three years old. Shocking, right?

Back when we started, Olivia Pope was but a gleam in Shonda Rhimes’ eye, Charlie Sheen had yet to embark on his Violent Torpedo of Self-Destruction Truth tour, and Netflix was just that red envelope that kept showing up in your mailbox.

To put it mildly — and I speak now on behalf of TVLine’s whole Scooby gang (Matt Mitovich, Michael Slezak, Kim Roots, Vlada Gelman, Andy Patrick, Jason Averett and the much-missed Meg Masters) — it’s been a wild and wildly rewarding 36 months. And to mark the occasion, we’ve dug deep into our archives and unearthed our 10 biggest stories since our launch. (I suspect some of the finalists will manage to surprise you.)

Scroll through the gallery below and then, if the spirit moves you, wish us a happy birthday in the comments!

  • What a whole load of Shonda Rhimes.

    • Happy Birthday TV Line! Congratulations!

Now, about this list…These are your top 10 stories? Really? Nothing about any Blind Items? AMC forcing Breaking Bad to end after 5 seasons? Netflix becoming a major TV player with a slew of award nominations and programming? Walking Dead’s meteoric ratings despite the revolving door of show runners? Game of Thrones and the Red Wedding? Oprah’s retirement? The death knell for daytime soap operas? The death of Andy Whitfield and the recasting of Spartacus? The death of Cory Montieth? Dan Harmon forced out of Community only to come back again?

None of these were bigger than the stories on this list? Hmmmm.

      • Pretty sure they picked “biggest” based on the site hits, Twitter/Facebook shares, stuff like that, not what they think were the biggest stories.

  • Happy Birthday! TVLine is my most visited website after Facebook as well! I also discovered the site searching for a recap of a show I’ve since forgotten, but was hooked as soon as I saw that Matt was one of your writers. He had been my favorite over at a previous site and I was delighted to find out where he’d landed. I still enjoy his writing, as well as that of everyone here, immensely. I also appreciate that you have managed to create a comments section environment that is generally respectful and intelligent. It is fun to read others’ theories and opinions on shows I enjoy. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • Ditto. Fond memories of the TV Guide podcast so I enjoy the Spoiler Chat. Any self-respecting fan of Ausiello knew about his penchant for (and potential to be bribed with) Snapple and Smurfs long ago. Very much enjoying Slezak’s and Melinda Doolittle’s contributions. I’m guessing our weekly Idology episodes are coming soon. Happy birthday TVLine! :)

  • Since that season finale of Grey’s when Lexie was killed off, I haven’t felt the same about Grey’s. Since then I’ve been slowly losing interest. Prior to that episode, Grey’s was one of my favourite shows. This year i’ts barely in my Top 20.

Comment by Ally Oop – January 4, 2014 10:10 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I Agree. Had to quit Grey’s. Can’t stand anymore. I’m usually a loyal fan. It a shame, Grey’s will be only show on my top 10 list that I did stay til the end. I had perfect record until Grey’s. DARN IT
