Exclusive: Ray Wise Joins The Young and the Restless As a Blast From Nikki's Past

The Young and the Restless Cast Ray WiseThe Young and the Restless‘ Nikki will get a blast from a dark time in her past when Twin Peaks patriarch Ray Wise joins the CBS daytime drama in the recurring role of former cult leader Ian Ward.

As established in recent months on the serial, Nikki (played by Melody Thomas Scott) met Ward during her time at the New World Commune some 30 years ago, and wound up pregnant. The child she gave birth to back then, yet never saw, she recently discovered is war vet Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton).

Wise — whose myriad TV credits also include Chuck, Reaper and Mad Men — begins shooting this Friday the 13th, with an eye on a Jan. 23 debut. His character, I am told, will play an integral role in the lives of several Genoa City residents.

Fun fact: Wise and Y&R vet Eric Braeden both have played the role of Robin Scherbatsky Sr. on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother.

  • Great casting! He’s even got the blue eyes like Steve Burton. Can’t wait for him to start airing!

    • I was kind of hoping that Dylan would have been Paul’s child, but with the cast of Ray Wise as the cult leader, it seems less likely now.

      • I am still hoping that it’s a mistake and Paul is Dylan’s father.

      • I don’t know how you could have come up with Paul as Dylan’s father when it’s always been know it was Ian Wards. ???

      • I had been hoping that as well but it doesn’t make sense that Nikki and Paul wouldn’t know that was a possibility. It would be great and work into the scheme of things well, Since Christine is a little bothered by Nikki and Paul’s closeness. Not to mention Victor dislike for how Paul has always been there for Nikki. Would make up for the loss Paul feels about his own son.

    • Yet, just the other day, Nikki told Dylan he didn’t look like Ian, even mentioning that he had different eyes. .. lol!

      • Nicki was sleeping with Paul as early as 1978.

  • Ray is such a great actor. He deserves better than soaps.

  • “Some 30 years ago”? No, try well over 40 years ago, because the character Dylan McAvoy was Nikki’s first born child, prior to her relationship with Victor Newman and her subsequent children, Nicholas and Victoria Newman who are supposed to be in their VERY late 30s/early 40s.

  • Eric Braeden vs Ray Wise. I want to see it

  • What does Stephen mean, he can do better than soaps? Ray Wise started his career on Love of Life in 1970. So he is returning home. He is a movie, TV, and soap star. Soaps are harder to do and more ongoing fun than movies and TV.

  • A great actor but bloody shame he is slumming it and having to take work at this once good soap that is now the worst on daytime this from long-time viewer who now watches GH!

    • It’s not a bloody shame. Ray Wise is in 13 movie and TV in 2013 and 5 in 2014. Look him up in ImDB. He’s in this because he likes the role and it’s made for him. It’s a recurring role so he’ll do this and a bunch more. Soaps are growing in popularity across the world and the stupid reality talk shows that replaced them are not doing well at all.

  • Isn’t this the same guy that played Lauren’s father on either Y&R or B&B many, many years ago ?

    • After seeing Ray Wise’s first full scene today, I think Ian Ward is absolutely capable of turning Victor’s brain to mush. Yeah!
