  • Trying so hard to keep an open mind about the hills coming alive on live tv with an (albeit talented) country singer at the helm, but I’m struggling. It feels a little… sacrilege-y.

    • Yes she is a country singer, but that does not mean she can’t pull of anything else.

    • The hills are alive with the sound of (country) music!!

      • They’re making a few changes to the songs… “The Lonely Goatherd” Is now “The Lonely Cowboy” and “Edelweiss” is now “Tumbleweed.”

    • It’s not sacrilege. The Live version will be based on the original stage musical. There’s many differences to the movies, so it won’t feel like a remake of the movie. There’s more songs in the stage version too.

    • She sounds amazing on the cast recording. They all do. Not country at all.

    • In the making of special, they made it VERY clear she is not using her “country” singing voice. The cast recording is absolutely amazing by the way.

Still deciding whether to watch Sound of Music live, or gamble it will be available to watch on Hulu on nbc.com. And btw this is NOT a remake of the movie; it is a remake of the stage play.

    • Add Scandal to that list…

  • I’ve never understood what “The Sound of Music” has to do with Christmas and why it’s shown around this time of year…a few lines in ONE of the songs? An ex-Nun turned nanny? Nazis? How is this Christmas?
It’s a good movie, but I’ll probably skip this in favor of something more festive.

  • Ground Floor, why does TVLine hate the only good laugh-track sitcom since the start of The Big Bang Theory?

  • Sound of Music is only live for the east coast right? I’ll skip it. I hate the way the west coast is always left out of live events.

  • I’m looking forward to The Sound of Music. A lot of people have been really defensive of the original movie, but this isn’t supposed to remake that. This is a production of the play.

And I’m sure I will get yelled at for saying this but while Julie Andrews’ Maria is iconic, there are a lot of reasons why she might not have been my choice for the role if I’d been casting it back then. In a lot of ways, Underwood has more in common with the character. Which means that we should at least keep an open mind. There’s no reason why Carrie Underwood shouldn’t be great in the role.

  • This is one of those rare moments when I actually wish I hadn’t had the cable tv shut off 3 years ago. I almost never miss all of the crap on cable. I can’t get over the air TV here, because I live in the hills myself.

Comment by Donna Per_gin (@tshirtdr1) – December 5, 2013 06:40 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • The remake can’t compare to the original. Carrie is good but her acting falls short of Julie. The rest of the cast can’t compare with the original.

Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very
bothersome to tell the reality on the other hand I’ll definitely come again again.
