EP Rebecca Eaton promises Season 3 will be worth the long wait. “They’re fantastic,” she tells EW. “They are jaw dropping. They are like small movies. Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman] are so in their Sherlock-Watson groove. They are so comfortable with that relationship it’s like being in the room with them.”

  • Quick question: does the US premiere of Sherlock coincide with the UK premiere? Or will they be shown in the states after they’ve aired in the UK, like Downton Abbey?

Comment by kd83954 – October 23, 2013 08:24 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I doubt it will coincide — although a broadcast date in the UK has not yet been announced, January 1 seems likely. Still, it will be closer than Downton Abbey.

      • Ah. Didn’t realize the UK premiere date wasn’t announced yet!!

        • I would expect the UK dates to be before the US dates. Christmas in the UK is going to be big enough with Moffat’s other show Doctor Show revealing the brand new 12th Doctor on Christmas Day as is UK tradition for the Doctor Who Christmas Episode.

          • Well, it can’t be any later, as BBC has first broadcast rights. Other than that? Whoever knows isn’t saying.

    • Also Downton is ITV and Sherlock airs on BBC in UK, that might have something to do with it.

    • Showcase had the 2nd series, but schedule it at odd times (and with tons of commercials). PBS should be available in Canada and is commercial-free.

  • This is great news! Now if they could only have more than three episodes per season…

    • Everyone is too busy, busy, busy to do more episodes. Cumberbatch has his insane movie career now. Freeman is The Hobbit. EP Moffat has Doctor Who and a few other projects.

Comment by Bob – October 23, 2013 10:23 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Considering each episode is 90 minutes, we’re still getting about six episodes’ worth of show. I’d rather have three 90-minute episodes than no episodes at all (2013 has been a rough year with no Sherlock to watch).

  • I just read on another site that PBS edits the episodes down. Is this true?

Comment by alistaircrane – October 23, 2013 11:40 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I don’t know if they do it all the time, but for the very first episode of series 2, they apparently cut down one scene because smoking was involved.

Comment by Quinn Mallory – October 23, 2013 01:05 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • PBS has done it with more than one show, sometimes with whole scenes and sometimes with bits and pieces of scenes.

Comment by jb – October 23, 2013 03:27 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Yes, they do. For example, in Hounds in season 2, they cut out the scene that revealed to the audience immediately that Sherlock was manipulating Watson’s experience in the lab from the control room.

  • Oh, Jan. 19th, that’s not too far off. That should be around the same time Justified is premiering, so it will be a good month.

Comment by Britta Unfiltered – October 24, 2013 01:29 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • This means that Downton Abbey only has two episodes – 1/5 and 1/12.

Comment by Susan – October 24, 2013 12:18 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • The PBS (WNED) that is shown in Toronto isn’t carrying Sherlock on Sunday night and doesn’t come up in a search. WGBH is showing as carrying it but we don’t get it. What gives?

Comment by maryrm – January 15, 2014 10:38 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I just read that WNED is waiting until Feb 13Th to air the new series! :(
