Outlander Season 1 Cast Lotte VerbeekIt’s official: The latest Outlander role to be cast is a real witch.

Lotte Verbeek, best known as Italian temptress Giulia Farnese on Showtime’s The Borgias, has joined Starz’s upcoming series adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s popular novels, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.

As has been rumored online for some time, Verbeek will portray Geillis Duncan.

In the books, Geillis is a sly, 18th-century Scottish woman who dabbles in the black arts and befriends accidental time-traveler Claire (played by Catriona Balfe in the TV series). It soon becomes clear that she has an ulterior motive for all of her seemingly supportive gestures.

Also confirmed: British actor James Fleet (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Vicar of Dibley) will take on the role of Rev. Wakefield, a Scottish historian of sorts who — in the books — interacts with Claire and husband Frank in the 1940s.

Battlestar Galactica‘s Ronald D. Moore is overseeing the historical drama, which follows British combat nurse Clare as she stumbles upon a Stonehenge-like group of standing stones and is unwillingly tossed back to 1743.

  • I pictured Geillis as more full faced and full figured, more Kate Winslet type, but since I disliked the character anyway, she’ll do.

  • She is to old to play Brianna. Think someone 16 -18 not 30s. Oh and dark red auburn hair.

    • I see Karen Gillan (Amy Pond from Dr. Who) as the perfect Brianna.

  • She is far above the appropriate age to portray Jamie and Claire’s daughter. At most she would have to be a pre-mature looking mid-20-something. But ideally Brianna should be prtrayed by a young adult.

    • Also, if you look up Lotte on google images, she is pretty great for the part of Geillis; Svelte build, graceful looking, mysterious and cunning. Only set-back is that she has dark hair, not light pure blonde hair like Geillis – they may have her lighten it for the show, though.
