Halle Berry CBS Drama Extant Halle Berry is making a big move to the small screen.

The Academy Award-winning actress has been tapped to star in Extant, a new sci-fi drama slated to bow on CBS in summer 2014.

From Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios, the 13-episode thriller centers on an astronaut (Berry) who, following a year-long solo mission, attempts to settle back in to her everyday life. “There’s only one Halle Berry and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen Extant to expand her illustrious career,” Spielberg said Friday in a statement. “As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her.”

Berry’s Oscar win came in 2002 (for Monster’s Ball); she also took home the Emmy in 2000 for Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie (for Introducing Dorothy Dandridge), and scored a second nomination in 2005 (for Their Eyes Were Watching God).

In addition to the new series, Berry and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, have entered into a two-year, first look production deal with CBS Television Studios.

  • Pretty surprised at this, and a summer series at that.

    • This is really not helping my interest in this project. With a mediocre script and mediocre talent, double this will go the distance. Unsustainable.

  • I can’t stand her after what she did with her men and daughter, I just will never look at her same way! Good luck to her as her movies were nothing for years!

    • Really? Really? What horrible thing did she do with “her men and daughter”? Let’s see. Berry married one abusive guy and another who was a serial cheater. She then dated a younger man with whom she had a child. That guy doesn’t seem to have a career but does take lots of child support even though their child lives primarily with Berry. Berry’s current fiancee is an established actor who appears to be a loving partner and stepfather.

So, what horrible thing has Berry done that a million other humans haven’t done?

  • so is space replacing zombies and comic books as the go to source for Hollywood creativity right now??

    • Considering the amount of “reality” crap on tv over last 10 years I will take space, zombies and comic books. Hell, I even take an occasional bad procedural show once in a while. Not everyone wants to watch a bunch of selfish, self-absorbed, narcissistic, whining, backstabbing, bed-hopping media-whores.
