What to Watch Tonight: Ironside's On Duty, The Bridge Finale, Jon Hamm's Notebook and More

A Young Doctor's NotebookOn TV this Wednesday: Don Draper and Harry Potter take a page out of A Young Doctor’s Notebook, Ironside proves his mettle, ABC hopes for a Super Fun Night, Top Chef and The Soup Investigates boil up some good times and The Bridge is out (for now). As a supplement to TVLine’s original features, here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm The X Factor (Fox) | The Four-Chair Challenge Round begins and contestants sing for a spot in the Top 16.

8 pm Arrow: Year One (The CW) | For those who’ve never met Oliver Queen or his crime-fighting alter ego: This special will catch you up in advance of next week’s Season 2 premiere. For those of you well acquainted with Arrow’s awesomeness: Catch this recap for an exclusive look at what’s coming this season. (Need more intel? Get scoop.)

8 pm Survivor: Blood Vs. Water (CBS) | A castaway quits; a family rivalry gets way out of control.

9 pm The Getaway (Esquire) | Parks and Recreation‘s Aziz Ansari yuks it up in Hong Kong in this new series, which chronicles the adventures of famous folk in far-flung locales.

9:30 pm Super Fun Night (ABC) | Series premiere: In the time since three TVLine editors panned this new series – in which Australian comedienne Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) plays an awkward American lawyer flanked by two even more socially stunted pals – ABC shelved the original pilot and instead will open with Episode 2. Liza Lapira (Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23) and Lauren Ash (Scare Tactics) co-star. Wilson’s Bridesmaids bro Matt Lucas appears in tonight’s outing, which finds Wilson’s Kimmie and pals broadening their horizons by singing at a piano bar. (Read our First Impression – based on the pilot – and get the 411 on Wilson’s puzzling accent.)

PREVIEW | Nashville First Look: Scarlett Shines, Juliette Simmers, Rayna Meets Her New Boss

10 pm Ironside (NBC) | Series premiere: NBC revisits its late ’60s/early ’70s crime drama of the same name, tweaking the premise so that sexy, successful, wheelchair-bound police detective Robert Ironside (played by Blair Underwood, The Event) and the elite team he leads are based in New York. Pablo Schreiber (The Wire), Spencer Grammer (Greek), Brent Sexton (The Killing) and Kenneth Choi (Sons of Anarchy) co-star. (Read TVLine’s First Impression and get scoop.)

10 pm Top Chef (Bravo) | Season 11 premiere: The first challenge in this New Orleans-set season involves cooking up local delicacies alligator, frog and turtle.

10 pm The Bridge (FX) | Season 1 finale: Sonya and Marco search for a missing girl, Charlotte meets someone who knows too much about her new business and Marco makes a pivotal decision. (Renovado!)

10 pm A Young Doctor’s Notebook (Ovation) | Series premiere: Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Daniel Radcliffe (the Harry Potter films) both star as the titular doctor – Hamm as the older, opiate-addicted version and Radcliffe as the young physician – as the older man narrates from his own diaries, which chronicle his practice in early 20th-century Russia.

10:30 pm The Soup Investigates (E!) | Series premiere: Soup pot-stirrer Joel McHale hosts this collection of tongue-in-cheek segments (think The Daily Show‘s edited political packages) on pop culture topics.

NEXT WEDNESDAY: Arrow returns; The Tomorrow People and American Horror Story: Coven premiere.

  • I watched the Ironside pilot on demand and was kinda meh about it. But pilots aren’t always great, so I will give it another couple of episodes.

  • So I commented that The X Factor judges already know the categories they will be mentoring. The author of this article made the correction and deleted my comment. Really TVLine?

  • Wednesday night is a BIG night of TV in my house. Watch Survivor, Criminal Minds, Nashville and The Bridge. DVR Revolution, Arrow, Ironside and maybe SVU (jury’s still out on whether I really care about this show anymore or not) :-)

  • Survivor, CM, CSI, Nashville, L&O: SVU and Ironsides. I’[ve read that Ironsides isn’t that great, but since I seldom don’t agree with critics, I’m going to give it a shot; and that means more than just the pilot.

  • So the Russian doctor grew a foot and got a completely different face between age 24 and 42 even though he also got addicted to opiates and probably downed quite a lot of vodka over that same period? Good trick, Old Doctor with Notebooks. Good trick.
