TVLine has learned that James Frain — one of TV’s go-to guys for playing off-putting, imperious individuals — will guest-star on multiple episodes of Fox’s freshman hit as Rutledge, a modern-day nobleman who will interrogate Ichabod, who is being passed off as a “visiting Oxford professor,” about his past.

What’s more, Rutledge harbors a secret that could affect Ichabod’s future.

Frain’s credits include runs on Grimm, White Queen, True Blood, The Cape, Invasion, 24 and The Tudors, plus guest spots on The Mentalist and Burn Notice.

Sleepy Hollow — which this week delivered Fox’s best fall drama debut in seven years — airs Mondays at 9/8c.

    • He would have made a better Baelfire on Once Upon a Time than Michael Raymond James. But, I’ll enjoy him on SH.

      • Ick. No way. His innate creepster quotient is too high. You don’t want Bae to have ended up sicker and more twisted than his father.

  • Mark Sheppard, James Frain is breathing down your neck! Love them both. If we could get them to work together, the world might implode.

  • I thought the 1st episode of Sleepy Hollow was very well-done. I’m looking forward to this season, and this casting makes me even more excited for the creepiness.

  • Love James Frain as pure evil in everything he does. Saw him on Fringe as Mr. Jone’s lawyer, but that bland lawyer character was a waste of his talent.
