Veep's Gary Gets Married?! Tony Hale Reveals His Dream Twist for Selina and Her Trusty Aide

Get More: Interviews, Previews

Veep Season 3 Spoilers Gary Selina MarriageEmmy-nominated Veep scene-stealer Tony Hale has game-changing plans in mind for his stalwart vice presidential aide Gary.

Whether or not showrunner Armando Iannucci will follow his absurdly ambitious lead, however, is another story.

“Pretty much in [the character's] world, Gary and Selina are going to get married,” Hale tells TVLine with a laugh. “He wishes she could be drugged up [like she was in Season 2's penultimate episode "Running"] 24/7 — because that was Gary’s dream.”

Fantasy weddings aside, the actor — who describes his Veep alter ego as a “high-functioning” version of his Arrested Development fave Buster Bluth — is eager to delve deep into Gary’s response to Selina’s POTUS bid in the HBO comedy’s upcoming third season.

“She’s finally getting what she deserves, in Gary’s world anyway,” Hale muses. “She’s up there with the Pope! He believes that she needs to be traveling around in a glass car where no one can touch her. And whatever [the outcome], this journey is going to be either more exciting or more devastating for Gary… He feels things way more than she does.”

Regardless of what does — or doesn’t — happen between Gary and his boss, Hale is certain of one thing: He’ll (probably) never force another nude scene on viewers.

“Even I can’t get rid of that image of Buster sitting at that sewing machine,” the actor jokes, recalling the memorable moment from Arrested‘s fourth season. “I’m sorry, everyone. I apologize. It was my idea. Buster was going nuts — more than usual — and I said, ‘I think he needs to be naked.’ The next day, I had huge buyer’s remorse.”

What’s your dream storyline for Veep‘s Gary and Selina?

  • Tony Hale absolutely doesn’t need to apologize for the sewing machine scene on AD, it was so hilarious I had to hit pause because i was laughing too much. I’m laughing now thinking about that scene.

  • Veep is hilarious! I can’t wait for Season 3. And I know it’s all part of the comedy, but I’d love for for Selina to have SOMETHING go right for her for once.
