The Mentalist Adds Prison Break Alum as Possible Series Regular

The Mentalist Cast Rockmond DunbarCBS’ The Mentalist has nabbed onetime Prison Break inmate Rockmond Dunbar to fill a potentially series regular role.

As reported by our sister site Deadline, Dunbar has been cast as Dennis Abbott, a no-nonsense FBI Supervisory Agent who isn’t impressed by Patrick Jane’s skills or charm (but probably his hair).

Abbott is one of two new characters/possible series regulars being added for Season 6, in preparation for these two midseason exits. The other, as scooped by TVLine’s Inside Line, is FBI agent Kim Fischer, a thirtysomething ex-homicide detective from Dallas who is not afraid to stand up for herself.

Dunbar’s other recent TV credits include Sons of Anarchy, The Game and the unceremoniously axed Terriers.

C-Note! Loved him in Terriers, too.

    • Nick C says:

aw. Why did you have to say Terriers :-( I remember the first show I saw him in was Earth 2. I might have to check this season of the Mentalist out now.

  2. Shaun says:

Isn’t he still on Sons of Anarchy?

    • AshleyRae says:

i’m guessing his rooselvelt character on S.O.A is going to step down as the sheriff or die……that’s could be 2 reasons. Bye Bye Eli.

      • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

        Plus: wildly different shooting schedules.

        • Ashley says:

          oh. yes that’s also true!

        • David S says:

Don’t networks tend to have exclusionary clauses in their contracts to prevent double duty?

Not trying to be facetious or anything, just interested in the mechanics (and the fate of his character in this season of SOA)

          • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Pretty certain he’s not a SOA regular (which would be the only conflict), and I have yet to see him in the new season’s episodes. So….

  3. Tav says:

Not familiar with this actor but looking forward to his character debut. And, just a hunch, but I’m guessing the female addition will be blonde. Van Pelt is a redhead and Lisbon is brunette; gotta go with a blonde to diversify/really establish that character differentiation. ;)
Plus, factor in the description of attractive and Texan, and well I’m betting we’ll get a tough southern belle type (a la Kelli Giddish on L&O: SVU).

  4. liz says:

That’s fabulous! He’s talented and I’m glad to see they’ve decided to go with a non-white actor.

  5. rempod says:

I hope the finale season is good. Liz no one cares about white or black or yellow or red! We just want a good finale.

  6. CBWBDK1 says:

Of course they need to replace the white cbi agent with a black fbi agent. I’m so tired of this sh##!

  7. Anne says:

Terriers. Why isn’t Terriers still on? I still grieve.
