TNT's Falling Skies Renewed for Season 4

Get More: News, Renewals

Falling Skies Renewed Season 4TNT has renewed its Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi drama Falling Skies for Season 4 — news that may come as a surprise to those who read too much into series lead Noah Wyle’s recent quotes to TVLine.

“As opposed to some of the other seasons where we’ve ended on a cliffhanger,” Wyle said, “this [finale] has more of a sense of closure, and completion.”

But apparently not too much closure and completion!

With Live+7 DVR playback factored in, Falling Skies this season is averaging 5.8 million weekly viewers and ranks as basic cable’s No. 1 scripted series with the 18-49 and 25-54 demos, for the summer-to-date.

The 10-episode Season 4 will premiere in summer 2014.

    • Me too. And I wasn’t one that read a lot into his comments. Didn’t have much doubt about it being back. Not all seasons have to end on a cliffhanger just because they are sci-fi/action series. I think it would be great if the season ended with them thinking they won their freedom with the help of the new aliens and all was happy…..

And then season 2 starts with Pope serving hotdogs to bubbleheads in Hawaain shirts lol

    • Season 4 is going to have 12 episodes, not 10.

    • I watch everything and I mean that minus anything reality. This has been one of my all time favorite drama/syfi shows. My only wish is asking for a mid-winter season.

  • Yay! And I love the little dig at everyone who responded to the last post with “the sky is falling” (hee) assumptions of cancellation.

  • I’m guessing with the season 3 finale feeling like a series finale, season 4 might have the show jump the shark.

Comment by steven – July 2, 2013 01:34 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Jump the Skitter.

Comment by Michael Sacal – July 2, 2013 02:37 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Why do season finales have to have cliffhangers in order to NOT feel like a series finale? I can think of plenty of shows where a season finale would have functioned perfectly well as a series finale if the show has been cancelled at that point in time, but where the show didn’t jump the shark the next season.

  • It may not be the best show on TV, but it’s the ONLY show on alien invasion on TV.

  • Nice! Just gotta get caught up on the last couple of episodes.

  • OK, so, I’ve never caught up with this show. But now I’m thinking I should. Quick question for the fans though – given Terry OQ is out of a regular gig, is there any chance his character on Falling Skies is relevant enough to see him get offered a regular gig on that?

Comment by ben – July 2, 2013 02:53 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • highly unlikely. you’ll see why when you’re caught up

    • Ha! No.

  • when they hired David Eick it was a pretty clear sign that they would renew it, but i’m glad it’s offical, should be really interesting to see Eick (BSG) does with the story.

Comment by James – July 2, 2013 02:59 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I had no idea David Eick was onboard with this show. He will definitely bring the tone this show needs as we progress further though. Great news.

Shame about this show’s unfortunately 90′s-ish soundtrack. IMO, it’s one of only 2 or maybe 3 things (though I can’t think of them all right now) holding this show back from being the same caliber as Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

Comment by Matthew – July 3, 2013 08:32 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • See everyone? No need that “closure” in a finale means that it will be the end. :)

Comment by Midori – July 2, 2013 03:54 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • so happy the show got renewed for season 4 early.

Comment by Joey – July 2, 2013 05:17 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I think it’s obvious that when the showrunner left he wrapped up the storyline he had. It’s that simple. No cliffhanger so the new guy doesn’t have to pick up where it left off.

Comment by Apples2apples – July 2, 2013 08:44 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • The showrunner left?!

Might as well cancel it. The best thing that happened to the show was that the first season showrunner left and we got the current one to really save the show from boringness.

Comment by Midori – July 3, 2013 06:36 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Great news! However, a renewal with 13 episodes instead of 10 would be even better!

Comment by Mel – July 3, 2013 07:36 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I really like this show, but I have to say Noah Wylie is one of the dullest actors I’ve seen in quite a while. There is no energy in his performances ever, and I’m not just talking about this series. He either shouts or sounds as if you just woke him up. He is lucky he is the producer so he cannot be replaced. Sorry. I had to get this off my chest.

  • Wow this show is so bad! Are there people who genuinely love it?

  • Just finished watching season 2 boxset here in Australia.
Fallng skies is the best show i have seen in a long time,
I hope the show goes for many more seasons to come.
    ( past se. 4 i mean)
@ edd.. yes we do love this show

  • David Eick, is that the guy who ruined BSG? What’s he gonna do, get humanity to surrender again, crawl into a hole and forget about any kind of future they could have had in order to hide from their ennemies?

I was so angry at how BSG ended that i never watch anything related to it ever again (i.e. spinoffs), and i thought this was the best show on TV for quite some time (up to the last few episodes). I HOPE the same doesn’t happen to Falling Skies…

  • I’m dying here….why the LONG wait, eh? ;-) I agree with a MID-WINTER series!!!! Arggghhhh……too long to wait, especially for the Gen X types like myself!

  • Noah Wylie is great in this! Producer or no producer…Everyone is great in this this show. Each indiviual is perfect for their character. I never had the chance to watch it on TV so I watched it on my Kindle and what was great was I could just keep watching episode after episode. When I reach the end of season three I was like…ohhhh noooo .more more…i am hooked. I am excited for season four but i am thinking i may wait for it on the kindle so i can watch it episode after episode instead of waiting. Not sure yet. I have time cause the Walking Dead will be starting which even awesome too

  • I love falling skies, they should take this show to an interesting end, or introduce new powers with humanity like tomy daughter Lexi,
In season 04 , The lexi will be the humanity right hand and Lexi will defend their people upto its 60%.
So, feel the drama you will know whats going on next,
The new battle and new series , with Old style.
keep watching. its great fun to watch show like this…
