Vampire Diaries Finale Recap: A Stefan Twist, a Cure for One Vamp and [Spoiler]'s End

Vampire Diaries Season 4 FinaleWarning: The following recap contains major spoilers from Thursday’s season finale of The Vampire Diaries. Proceed at your own risk!

If there’s one thing you can count on from a Vampire Diaries season finale, it’s a crazy-unexpected cliffhanger. And this year’s conclusion — featuring a humdinger of a twist that might even eclipse Elena becoming a vampire — did not disappoint.

Let’s review the major bombshells:

DOUBLE TAKE | After appearing as many different incarnations, the gang’s immortal foe Silas finally reveals his true self, and hey, he sure looks a lot like… Paul Wesley! As Stefan prepares to dump Silas in the ocean, he finds that the baddie has broken free of his stone prison. The spell that bound him was performed by a living witch, and now that Bonnie’s a goner, he’s free. Taking on the form of Elena, he explains that he created the immortality spell thousands of years ago so he could never die. But nature needed something to balance that, a shadow self that can die. Stefan takes this to mean that Silas is one of them, the Katherine/Elena clones, but actually Stefan’s the freakin’ doppelganger! As if that’s not enough, Silas locks up the real Salvatore brother and throws him into the ocean. Season 5 wacky impersonation hijinks, here we come!

BEING HUMAN | Katherine decides she’s had enough of Elena, who’s living a better life than she is, and attacks her. The two duke it out. Right before Katherine is about to take out her own doppelganger, Elena shoves the cure, which has exchanged many hands during the episode, into her mouth. Our favorite sassy vamp is human now (and can be killed much more easily, gulp!). “Have a nice, human life, Katherine,” Elena sasses.

GHOSTLY ACTION | Bonnie keeps her new ghostly state secret from her friends so they can have a normal graduation. Ha! The gang succeeds in getting their diplomas, but not without some supernatural interference. Bonnie gets the veil back up and thwarts Kol and the other angry ghosts. But her most impressive feat: She successfully resurrects Jeremy, who tells her he can’t feel her hands. While the little Gilbert is back — can we keep Alaric, too, please? — the witch is dead (presumably) for good. She makes one final request — that he tell Elena and Caroline that she’s spending the summer with her mother so they can enjoy a little normalcy.

MATTERS OF THE HEART | On the romance front, Elena finally chooses her Salvatore, declaring to Damon, “I am not sorry that I’m in love with you,” as Stefan eavesdrops on their conversation. Lexi reassures him that you can have more than one epic love, especially as a vampire. And in a nice brotherly moment, Stefan tells Damon, “I’m not happy about Elena, but I’m not not happy for you.” Meanwhile, Caroline makes repeated calls to Klaus after Damon gets shot with a werewolf venom-laced bullet (or three). Just when it appears that the Original has forsaken his favorite blonde, he shows up at graduation in time to decapitate an angry ghost witch with a cap. You can always count on an Original for a good decapitation scene, can’t you? Then, not only does he save Damon, he also gives Caroline one hell of a present: Tyler is now safe to return to Mystic Falls. “He’s your first love,” he says. “I intend to be your last – however long it takes.” So exactly how long are we talking here? Season 2 of The Originals?

TRAVELS ABROAD | Finally, we’ve got Rebekah and Matt, yet another would-be couple soon to be torn apart by a spin-off. When Alexander traps Matt on a bomb, Rebekah declares, “The first rule of living: Do the thing you’re most afraid of,” and kisses him. While they’re making out, she takes his place on the bomb and tells him to go to graduation. Alexander wants to know what she’s done. “I finally chose one of the good ones,” she replies. And he may have chosen her back because Matt agrees to travel the world with her since he has no other future plans. “Whatever happens on the road, stays on the road,” he says, warning her not to get any ideas about turning him into a vampire. “It’s time I start truly living.”

All ill say is Oh, s**t! I did not see that coming at all! Amazing! Julie Plec, I am in awe!

    • luli says:

I think Ausiello was right! Julie is a genius! I want Stefan back!!!

    • Gillian says:

OMG what a finale! Loved Damon/Elena, Damon/Alaric & Stefan/Lexie scenes. Jeremy is back. Katherine is human. Stefan is a Silas doppelganger. Holy cow, an amazing episode!

      • David says:

Like Ausiello said Julie is Amazing 1. Katherine is Human! Julie is Amazing 2. Bonnie’s spell worked Jeremy (and those abs lol) is alive, 3. Silas is Doppelganger to Stefan, Julie is Amazing. That about right! and that hole grad cap tossing decapitation scene was pretty cool too :)

    • cc says:

Now that I’ve had time to think on this and digest it… I’m wondering if Silas is once again playing mind games. If he can make himself look like anyone, why wouldn’t he make himself look like the person he was with so he can take their place? It seems like the most logical thing to do… so who knows if Stefan is a doppleganger or not… ugh, my head hurts… LOL (in the best way, of course… summer is going to be LOOOOONG)

    • ali says:

      i love vampire

  2. Amanda says:

Holy oh my god. That was the best episode in a LONG time… and I have been basically happy with this season already! I cant wait for next season :) I wish that Caroline could be in two places at once however, and I’m really not excited to see Tyler back….

    • Becky says:

If it comes down to Tyler or Klaus, I’m pretty sure no one picks Tyler… lol…

      • Sam says:

Oh please. I’ll take Tyler over klaus and his whiny entitlement any day of the week.

        • jerrired says:

I’d pick Tyler too, in a heartbeat. But I don’t think he’s coming back anytime soon. Caroline has no way to contact him, and they made it pretty clear next season will be about making Caroline and Stefan happen.

          • luli says:

Caroline and Stefan/Silas?? Where did you hear that?!

          • jerrired says:

I’m speculating the show is headed to a Caroline and Stefan thing. They’ve been hinting about it pretty hard. Everything from Elena encouraging it when she had no emotions to Lexi teasing Stefan about it. And if Tyler stays gone, even if he comes back, Stefan and Caroline will probably happen next season. Also Klaus being gone too, just left the door wide open for Stefan and Caroline.

          • Mikael says:

I’m hoping that Caroline is the one to realize that it’s not the real Stefan and she’s the one who rescues him and they end up together. I also hope they don’t drag out Silas-as-Stefan for too long. Let Paul Wesley have some fun and then bring real Stefan back. I love Lexi too, but Caroline is becoming the new Lexi for Stefan, so it might not make sense to have her back, unless he and Caroline end up together, leaving the best friend slot open.

          • Kate says:

what? what source did you hear this from? unless you mean silas/stefan? julie p says she sees caroline as a best friend for stefan and that’s it

          • lorna says:

Good ep. I want Ric alive again so badly. Iwonder if Elena knew aout Jeremy that she wouldve taken the cure herself, but then Katherine could kill her a lot more easily. As for burying Stefan in the sea, unexpected yet another rip offof buffy and angel.

          • rosie w. says:

Plec also teased at the possibility of a romance between Stefan and Caroline. Klaus will be gone next season if “The Originals” is picked up, and Tyler has left Mystic Falls. Plec has wanted something to spark between Stefan and Caroline since season two, and the pair has become closer this season. A romance is not out of the question.

        • Fran says:

Yeah as a love interest, I’d rather have Tyler. I like Klaus but not with Caroline. That never made any sense.

        • ABBY says:

I’d without a doubt pick Tyler, I’m not even that interested in Klaus (I won’t be watching the spinoff)

          • Ryuji says:

There won’t b anything like that such as: Stefan/ Caroline; Stefan/Lexi …. He suppose to get a new girl that Damon haven’t slept with periode For rescuing Damon, I think Bonnie should be the one to do that as a ghost by transferring her power to Stefan in the ocean, like that he will be powerful, even klaus won’t be able to defeat him. And will bring Alaric, Bonnie… Back to life with the same spell Bonnie used to bring Jeremy back. As a vampire he won’t be died by the spell cause he isn’t a human. That should take a little while before it happen just to give Elena and Damon sometime

          • Ryuji says:

            I meant rescuing Stefan

        • Meredith says:

Team Klaus all the way. Tyler has just as many whiny entitlement issues, do you not remember him from seasons 1 and 2?

          • Radha says:

Um, Tyler has developed into a better character since SEASON ONE. So because he was a douche back then, he’ll ALWAYS be a douche? Yeah okay. And as for Klaus I’m glad he’s gone. I’m tired of him on my screen.

      • Mari says:

It depends–are we getting the Klaus from this episode, or the Klaus from almost every other episode?

        • tvfan says:

You said it. This episode’s Klaus was endearing, but usually he is unbearable.

          • Mari says:

You mean I’m not the only one that can’t see the sexy and romantic other people are talking about with him? I’m thrilled about the Originals because it means he’s moving shows–and I most likely won’t watch the Originals. If he’d been _this_ episode’s Klaus more often, that wouldn’t be the case.

      • MaryAnn says:

Tyler over Klaus for Caroline any day of the week.

      • Chris says:

Yeah, Tyler truly stinks. By far the worst character on the show! I hope he’s not coming back next season. I was so happy when he left!

        • Radha says:

Why does he stink? I keep seeing all this Tyler hate, but no one explains why they think so. It’s just a matter of opinion as always, but I’m truly interested in why you guys don’t like him. He’s been a better developed character since the douchebag jerk he was in Season one, so what? Don’t like the actor? What?

          • Isabel says:

The problem I have with the Tyler character is that he is a would-be rapist. Has everyone forgotten that he almost raped Matt’s sister, Vicki? In this supernatural world, we can forgive murderers, but rapists are a different story.

        • Yosra says:

          Totally agree

        • tony says:

Yaeh, I’m just not interested in him at all. At least Klaus is a compelling character to watch…

      • perry says:

I think a total of 5 people would pick Tyler. And all of them have commented in this thread lol.

    • katrina says:

I can’t wait for Caroline to show up on the Originals!

      • Bianca says:

she should just totally move there both her best friends are dead so the whole i cant leave my friends problem is gone and she promised her mom that she’ll move her mom to another place ;)

    • Ugh me either! Tyler=snooze we want KLAROLINE!!!

    • Lucy says:

Tyler bores me, Klaus doesn’t, easy decision.

  3. S says:

I knew it! Katherine got the cure! YES, Damon finally gets the girl!!! The ending with Stefan wow… Jeremy is back!! but Bonnie needs to come back she shouldn’t be dead

  4. Hmmmm says:

In a shocking development, Elena chose the opposite Salvatore brother this season finale. And next season, hold your breath while she flip flops back to last year’s choice.

    • Ari says:

“It’s Stefan it’ll always be Stefan! J/K I meant it’ll be Stefan for about a year.” I lose a lot of respect for Stefan when he calls Elena the love of his life. Baby you can do better.

    • Robert says:

I’m highley sure that Damon and Elena will be quickly broken up, because i’m pretty sure they have split IRL, this usually happens a lot if a on screen couple become a real couple, they brake up IRL then the writers split them up on screen. e.g Gossip Girl – Dan/Serena. OTH – Brooke/Lucas.. the list goes on, it’s a shame really.

  5. Ari says:

I’m torn on this. Klaus being awesome was fabulous. Rebekah and Matt, fabulous. Stefan magically being a doppleganger. That was a bit of a WTF moment. Stefan getting sunk to the bottom of a lake was very reminiscent of Angel season 3 when Connor sunk him to the bottom of the ocean. In that respect it was very reminiscent of Julie Plec stealing a lot of other Whedonverse storylines and tweaking them ever so slightly. I’d say this was a solid C. Glad Jeremy is back and I’m glad Bonnie has moved on. She was a decent character who got the shaft storyline wise and honestly, the actress deserves better than to show up once every 6 weeks.

  6. CJS says:

Maybe Julie Plec is a genius after all.

    • Cc says:

I think so, too. She was thinking so many steps ahead with how this unfolded. It was awesome!

    • Ross Tiffany says:

If by genius you mean lazy copycat, then yeah, she’s a genius!!

      • Carrie says:

Exactly. How many times have they stolen from shows like “Buffy” and “Angel”? It would be nice if they could come up with something remotely original.

        • xxx says:

I think the all hybrid and original vampire thing are the most original thing she has in this show.

        • @bd9598 says:

Ah Thank You I was afraid if I said it I’d be hit by a lynch mob. I remember in one interview before this year Julie said she did not want to make Bonnie too “Willow” well, she missed, right down to the black veins. They killed off all of the adults but for Giles who went to part time so the characters could be “grown up.” There are more vampires here on a regular basis. One interview after Jeremy’s death Julie said it was to make sure we knew it was OVER no one would ever see him again, the same with others dying, they’re “gone”, well not so far. On and on Iwas honestly disappointed with this episode and the season in general It was scattered without much of a central theme other than Elena learning to be a vampire, shudder and Silas. Maybe next year will improve.

  7. OMG that was the best twist they can ever give this show. I love love loved it I can’t wait for season 5 it is gonna be truly amazing.

  8. Guy says:

    LOLWUT?

  9. ollie says:

LOVED IT!! but itsnt stefan silas’s doppelganger? and poor bonnie who really didnt ever get a great storyline of her own just to end up dead. lol at katherine being human now. to bad alaric and lexie couldnt stay.

  10. Suz says:

Yay!!! Jeremy!!! I also realized though how much I miss Alaric,,,,please bring him back too!!! Alaric and Damon together is amazing, such chemistry,,, good bromance

  11. James says:

Elena picked Damon (for now)- check. Katherine takes the cure (check). Jeremy is back- check. All things that are not shocking at all. The only thing I didn’t see coming was the end with Stefan. I was so excited that he was finally going to move on from Elena and then that happens. I’m definately interested in where that’s going to go. Oh and Damon take note- THAT is how you react when the girl doesn’t pick you :)

  12. Robert says:

I was convinced Stefan would take the cure as the cliffhanger. Didn’t see that ending. Can’t wait to see Katherine as a human. That could be fun. Wish Matt and Rebekah would continue, but with her going to the spin-off, guess it won’t last.

  13. t86 says:

Amazing finale! that cliffhanger with Katherine and Elena, and with Stefan in the end…O.MG. can’t wait for S5!!!

  14. michelle says:

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!- This episode was to die for. It was definitely an emotional roller coaster, I need more
    ! <3

  15. Jessica says:

Loved it. Really wish we could keep Alaric around though

  16. BucknerBlog says:

Now I want Matt AND Caroline to go to the Originals! I honestly giggled like a teenage girl when Klaus said “Tyler is your first love, I intend to be your last…” I already want regular Stefan back and Season Five hasn’t even started yet.

    • Ari says:

Yea, the way Klaus delivered that line and then kissed her cheek, it was like I was a stupid school girl giggling over it. I love them together so much.

  17. Ross Tiffany says:

Can TVD stop biting off better shows? Angel season 3 finale anyone??!!??!

    • John says:

You sound foolish…By the way, remotes were invented many years ago to help your obvious problem…Something tells me you didn’t even watch this.

      • dee123 says:

Something tells me deep inside you know TVD will always be inferior to Buffy & Angel.

        • Miranda says:

I adore TVD, one of the few decent shows on television these days, but hell will freeze over before any show in my mind beats Buffy, and even Angel, in quality, character growth, and the ability to last seven (or eight years if you tack the two together) with fresh ideas. It created the term ‘big bad’. So of course this show is inferior.

  18. Fran says:

I am as estactic as Paul Wesley is that he’s going to have a storyline that doesn’t involve moping over Elena! She hasn’t been worth it for a long time. I just hope that they don’t make Damon the same way now that he is finally with Elena. An FYI to those who don’t know- there is a nice interview with Julie Plec on zap2it.com where she talks about the finale.

  19. Reblogged this on thehiltonburnellfiles and commented:
Very extremely intense. Kick-ass when Elena and Katherine got into each other. What a great finale.

  20. S says:

I’m a DE fan but I have to wonder how long they’ll last? I don’t trust these writers at all. lol

    • Sara says:

Joss Whedon said “trust the tale, not the teller.”

    • Kate says:

LOL. I totally get you. I am a SE fan but even when she chooses Stefan, I am like..”okay, how long will this last.” There are rumors that the show might go on for 2-3 more seasons and I’m like “is Elena really going to stay with Damon for that long?”

  21. Thesisters says:

Silas picked Damon while Elena was fighting Katherine…he made Stefan think it was Elena. True love never dies she will be with Stefan.

    • MaryAnn says:

Is that even possible? Does anyone recall exactly how the cuts and the timing went?

      • Meredith says:

It’s possible but highly unlikely I think. If he had shown up as Elena to pick Damon he also would have dumped Stefan which means he would have ended up with the cure.

    • Luísa Medeiros says:

You are wrong men, because if Silas was Elena he whould have the cure not the real Elena ;)

    • sarah says:

i don’t think so, you see stefan putting the stone silas in the car after elana decides, he broke free on the ride to the quarry after bonnie passed on.

    • Bailigh says:

The problem with this entire episode was that Bonnie died at the end of the previous episode. As a consquence of that fact, anyone could have been Silas at any point during this episode. When Elena was confessing her love for Damon, Silas could have been Elena, Damon or even Lexi or Stefan who were evesdropping downstairs!
Simply put we do not know who Silas was pretending to be at any given point in the hour!

      • Julie says:

The veil was still up though- which I believe we are to take as Bonnie not being “officially” dead. When she closed the veil she was officially dead and Jeremy was officially alive.

    • Sherry says:

No Silas did not pick Damon while Elana was fighting Katherine. Damon @ Alaric were celebrating that”he got the girl” after Elana left to go find Matt & Bonnie.

  22. Mari says:

It had some really great moments, but seemed rushed and disjointed to me–and the graduation in the middle? I think they were trying to fit too much into one episode. I really did enjoy the Katherine twist, though. And I’m pretty grateful that some of the characters are going to their very own show where I won’t have to watch around them any longer.

  23. Waitingsux says:

I hope the whole stelena delena thing is really and truly dead. I don’t care either way, but the love triangle is soooooo played out.

I like the interesting new storyline for Stefan. He’s way too underused in this series. The wet noodle boyfriend thing was so uninteresting.

Tyler is a bore too, hope he stays away. I kind if like Klaus/ Karoline, but whatever.

Overall, it was a good finale, not great, but good.

  24. jerrired says:

Overall, I thought the finale was just okay. There was no real surprises. Everyone kind of knew Jeremy was coming back, as Bonnie probably will too next season. The Katherine thing could have been a surprise, but I kind of figured it out a couple weeks ago. The only real surprise was Silas and Stefan are doppelgangers. But it’s a really confusing storyline and doesn’t seem to add anything. Because Silas could turn into anyone anyway. And it’s not like being a doppelganger really does anything. For example, Stefan being Silas’s doppelganger isn’t going to make them not try to stop Silas. Maybe Stefan will get some cool new power? Idk doubt it. The TVD writers are getting a little lazy. I know they’re better than that.

    • Mari says:

Well, and the “a version of me that can be killed” logic escapes me. If nature likes balance, wouldn’t it come up with some way to neutralize him? Like if someone injects him with cocoa butter he spends the next six years as an iguana? How does creating something that looks like him make a balance unless there’s a way for them to use Stephan to destroy Silas?

      • jerrired says:

Exactly. I need them to really explain all this next year. It made no sense in the last couple seconds they introduced it all. Maybe Stefan needs to die to kill Silas. Then they can make Stefan immortal or some type of new creature. I don’t know, but I hope the writers have this all planned out, so it’s not just a figure it out as we go thing. You can always tell when writers do that.

        • Ari says:

They totally should have introduced this Stefan is a doppleganger thing back in December. I felt like we had this whole Silas can’t get the cure and die because the veil would come down thing going on but there were really no stakes in that for us. Then the veil comes down and they still don’t want Silas to have the cure (WHY?). It just made no sense to me. Now it’s starting to come together that maybe there is more to it than just the whole veil/cure thing. Problem being that Season 1 & 2 Vampire Diaires would have covered this in about half the time. I miss that pacing.

          • Mari says:

Yes. They did both too much and too little in this episode. You’re right; why, exactly is Silas having the cure now bad? And if turning him to stone only lasts as long as the witch who cast the spell, how come he was stone for how many years?

          • jerrired says:

Same. Season 1 and 2 was way better written and planned out. I just read that they had the Silas/Stefan doppelganger stuff planned since season 3, but I kind of doubt it, because it all feels like rushed and confusing. I guess it’ll unfold next season but this season could have been like you said paced better which would have made it a stronger season. This season has been my least favorite so far. Seems like the writers are running out of ideas, which is sad. I think the show still could be good if they figure out a more interesting direction.

          • they never wanted to give Silas the cure because that will allow him to die in peace in the afterlife while everyone on the Other Side (which, with the dropping of the veil, technically eliminates that other side) would remain to run the Earth, seeking revenge on those who put them in purgatory.

ThevSilas/Stefan doppleganger thing confuses me! Season 5 can’t come soon enough.

    • mc123 says:

      Technically isn’t Stefan dead?

  25. rin says:

Does thsi mean Matt is going to the Originals?

Katherine + Damon + Elena Triangle?!!?

Will Katherine be reunited with Stefan!?

  26. Viv says:

Really… I was so disappointed over the cliffhangers this season! Then the CW finales come along… i honestly saw non of that coming. Okay, the Katherine-thing maybe. What a finale Oo

  27. ABBY says:

There was a lot of build-up on various spoiler site’s about the twist over who got the cure so maybe I was expecting too much but for me Katherine was a big big let down. I feel very underwhelmed.

    • Jessie says:

I couldn’t agree more! I was disappointed with the finale. Especially after last year’s jaw-dropping final act. Giving Katherine the cure feels like an easy out.

  28. Rose says:

    Matt and Rebekah! <3 <3 < 3

Oh my shipper heart. It's sad they're about to separated by the spin-off. But who says Matt can't visit New Orleans, huh?

  29. Baileigh says:

First, isn’t Stefan the doppelganger not Silas as the latter was walking the Earth first? Also, was I the only one who walked away from the finale with the freaking impression that Stefan and Elena are somehow destined to be together? Didn’t Silas suggest to Stefan at the end that his true love whatever her name is was the first Petrova girl that all the Petrova doppelgangers are descent from? If that is correct then once again it doesn’t really matter whom Elena chooses because the other brother will have reason to think he has a chance. Also what is up with them ripping off Angel’s thrid season finale?
Oh by the way it should have been Damon getting the cure not Katherine. Essentially, now with Katherine human she’ll be hunted just as Elena was because she is the doppelganger. I wonder how long it will be before Elena becomes jealous of Katherine’s human life.

    • Fran says:

Hmm possibly on the Elena romance thing. I never pictured Damon and Elena together in the end. I like that we’re going to see them together but I doubt that will truly be the endgame. As long as the triangle is dead for awhile (like the whole next season) I’m fine with it.

    • TrickyGreyArea says:

No, unfortunately you’re not the only one who walked away thinking this doppelganger thing is intended as evidence Stefan and Elena are destined to be together. As soon as my brain wrapped around the fact that they were two Paul Wesleys onscreen, I thought “Oh ****.” I’d like to say “I’m out”, but I have the feeling I won’t be able to stay away…If they have Katherine stick around, I’m very curious to see how she handles being human. Can you picture her dealing with something as mundane as having a cold? Could be funtimes.

  30. luli says:

Katherine can become a vampire again, cant she? She just drinks vampire blood, dies and comes back as a vampire…

  31. Sunshine says:

Oh I forgot about Angel being locked away & sunk in the ocean. . . I thought it seemed a bit familiar storyline wise now I know why. Lol. I am curious if/when they will realize its not the real Stefan. Having Stefan be a doppelgänger was the most interesting twist.
Glad they brought Jer back, not surprised tho since there were reports he’d be a series regular next season. I had hoped Alaric would return somehow since Cult was cancelled. I’d really like for the writers to get TRULY creative and find those ‘loopholes’ they like to mention & bring back Bonnie, Alaric & Lexi back!!! Silas in specific mentioned loopholes, he was vague so writers get to work & figure it out! I’m sure Bonnie will stick around in some form tho.
Loved the dynamics between Caroline & Klaus and Matt & Rebekah. Looking forward to The Originals but sad to lose Klaus & Rebekah from TVD. Maybe Matt can head over there… He said he has no plans…..

  32. Patricia De Souza says:

This was a good episode good enough to make me watch it next season I almost gave up on the show, this season was a mess but at last Elena finally chose and for real this time, and it should be a lot of fun seeing a human Katherine. I think Caroline should stick with Tyler, she has no chemistry with Klaus it’s so forced. Excited for next season

  33. Jacqi says:

I seriously yelled bad words when the credits rolled! Do Not mess with my favorite person on the show! Love Stefan! Ugh!! The new season needs to start now!!

  34. It was all great, except the part where Jeremy became a human again. Womp womp, we wanted Alaric.

  35. Molly says:

Loved everything about it, except I needed Alaric to stay! Even over Jeremy! MIss him so much!

  36. kavyn says:

The only thing I hated about this finale was Jeremy coming back to life. They didn’t have anything for him past seasons and had to turn him into a ghost-seeing hunter. His goodbye episode was done perfectly.

I’d rather not have Tyler back either, but with so many cast members leaving I suppose it was inevitable.

They better not kill Katherine, or else I’m completely done.

  37. Kat11 says:

Ahh! Am I the only one who wanted her to choose Stefan?? and hes locked away in the ocean? not cool :( I hope she realizes her mistake early in season 5… it’s going to be hard to watch otherwise…

    • Fran says:

I’ve always preferred Stelena together but it honestly wouldn’t have made sense for her to choose him. I assume you’re a Stefan fan though so this is a good thing for him. It gives him an actual storyline next year instead of mooning over Elena. I’m sure eventually they will have moments again (though I hope it’s much later rather than sooner). I really think this is a good thing.

    • wasitelena? says:

I wanted elena to choose stefan too. But wait, was it really ELENA who chose damon? I have a feeling its SILAS posing as elena while she was fighting katherine. And did u notice when katherine shoved the stick into elena’s neck, elena was thinking about Stefan and not damon? That was epic…

      • jam525 says:

All I want is for Stefan and Elena to be together, but I didn’t think she was “thinking” about Stefan when she was fighting Katherine, rather she was replaying that she had the cure. Prior to that the audience assumed Stefan had it.

      • Diana says:

Oh please. She wasn’t thinking about Stefan. They were showing that Stefan has given her the cure thus he wasn’t planning on becoming human. Oh, the denial…

        • Julie says:

I don’t think denial, wishful thinking is more like it. Considering Julie Plec loves to throw these little snippets to either the Stelena or Delena fans it’s not too big of a stretch. The same thing happened when Delena fans were looking into things that weren’t really there. Oh well, people are free to think whatever they want.

        • Cathy O says:

I Agree. It didn’t mean anything just a means of letting the audience know why she still had the cure.

      • Gina says:

I don’t think it was Silas as Elena when talking to Stefan. She never really “rejected” him during the conversation. At least not that we saw. I do think that it was Silas “choosing” Damon, just so Stefan can hear him and go ahead with dumping Silas’ body alone.

I kind of hoped this finale would stink, so I wouldn’t have to wait on pins and needles for the season 5 premiere. That didn’t go as planned.

        • Courtney E says:

One thing doesn’t make sense with this. When Stefan was getting Silas’ body out of the car he noticed that it felt lighter and that he wasn’t there. Which makes me assume that he was still dead or whatever when Stefan put him in the car. I’m under the impression that Silas couldn’t control anyone’s mind while he was in that state. The Damon/Elena scene happened before Stefan went and got Silas so Silas being the one who chose Damon doesn’t really make sense. Maybe I’m wrong though. Btw, I don’t care who she’s with so this isn’t me in denial over Stelena or me being pushy about Delena.

      • Bailigh says:

Actually, I think that memory was put in there to remind the audience of who had the cure in their possession. I do not think it had anything to do with the fact that Elena chose Stefan over Damon yet again.

    • Leela says:

There is going to be another at least two seasons, so I am sure she will choose him at the end.

    • jlaier says:

Want elena and Stephan to be together :(

      • Ryuji says:

No way, Stefan should not get her back even if she realize in the future that she made a mistake. She already slept with Damon which was really hurt Stefan and beside Damon can’t sleep with every single girl Stefan has.

    • Ryuji says:

You aren’t the only one, it’ll be to late before she realize that.

  38. Tony says:

Everything was going as expected. A generic graduation scene that the writers nay have felt obligated to included. Stefan / Lexington fade out. Alaric / Damon fade out. Klaus saving Damon and scaring off the already dead with death treats. Matt / Rebecca developing into inevitable collapse due to spin off, or matt going to the other show. Jeremy staying alive. And of course Bonnie will be alive by midseason five. The high points were Elena picking Damon, Katherine becoming human, and the Stefan doppelganger mindrape. Overall, I give the episode a five out of five. All the expected scenes were necessary season four resolution, and the twist set us up for a great first half of season five leading up to what better be an epic 100th episode. So Thx to the writers for giving us what made sense, and some extra sweet candy!

  39. Danielle H. says:

I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I fist pumped, I squeeled… it was one of the best episodes ever. Every angle was just perfection. The only thing I’m a little meh about is doppleganger Stefan, did we jump the shark or just shake crap up? Only time will tell. I’m not sure where next season is heading, but I can’t wait for it and all the Originals/TVD inevitable crossovers.
O…and finally Damon gets his girl. *dies*

  40. Julie says:

After the crap that was this season…. I was pleasantly surprised by the finale! Jeremy being alive again wasn’t a surprise, nor was Katherine being the one forced to take the cure (although I thought Elena would kill her). Elena picking Damon was expected as well after the way things were going. But the thing with Stefan- I did NOT see that coming. I’m glad he’s going to have a storyline that doesn’t revolve around him mooning over Elena. I have no doubt him and Elena will have something again possibly in the future, but I hope that’s a ways away. Let Damon and Elena do their thing next season but I hope they don’t make Damon mushy or whiny. Stefan saying he wasn’t not happy for Damon was nice. I liked the closure with Klaus and Caroline and Matt and Rebekkah were sweet as well. Overall it actually makes me look forward to next season, something I thought I wouldn’t feel. On a side note- everytime I see Lexi I just get so ticked at Damon. I really enjoy his character but man I can’t get over that he killed her. Oh well. Hopefully they take the promises of the finale and build on that next season because I think it could be really great.

  41. Dave says:

    I like Katherine as a vampire !!!!???

  42. Aida says:

But I thought it was the legendary witch Katsia who cursed Silas with the immortality spell & hideous appearance.. Why did he create it himself when all he’s been wanting is to cross over to be with his wife? And if he did create it 2000 years ago as he says, is Stephen Salvator even that old for Silas to duplicate his form? What was Silas’s motivate all this time? I am sooo confused!

    • sara says:

From what I gather Silas always looked like the Stefan we know, he was the original “Stefan” and in order for silas to become immortal a shadow self, or doppleganger was created, the Stefan we know, it’s just that he didn’t show up for over a thousand years. Like Katherine and Elena, and Tatia they are all the same person but showed up hundreds of years a part.

    • Anon says:

He needed Questiya to perform the spell. But once she found out that he wanted to be with another (Human) girl (Probably Elena) she cursed him and created the other side.

  43. Justin says:

Epic!!! I didn’t see any of that coming at the end, what a twist. Thank you for bringing Jeremy back! Now Please do the same with Alaric!!! His character adds so much to the show.

  44. The Rock says:

Bring Alaric back. The show was much better with Matt Davis in it. Same thing with Lexie.

  45. Dorkie says:

Am I the only one who actually cares that “the real” Stefan is gone, having to worry whether the writers will have the damon n them find out tht it’s not Stephan, finding the real one deep in the ocean or not?

  46. S says:

That was real Elena choosing Damon. Didn’t you guys hear them saying how Elena left to go find Bonnie after Damon had just has his moment with her? …….seriously I get not everyone will be a fan of DE but face it she chose Damon this time. LOL and she wasn’t thinking about Stefan when with Kat only that he gave the cure to her and she thought hey I’ll shove it down Kat’s throat… Wow…….some of the things people come up with

    • Julie says:

Yeah but Damon fans do the same- like last year they ran with the whole Damon meeting Elena first thing, and when Bonnie was torturing Elena they were saying how significant it was that Elena asked for Damon to help her and not Stefan… even though he was the first one she saw so why wouldn’t she say that? Anyway my point is that both sides just have wishful thinking for whatever couple they want more. Considering how the writers constantly throw in little bits of hope to each side it makes sense. Personally I don’t think they will go the route of Silas posing as Elena…. but honestly you just never know with this show.

    • Ryuji says:

Stefan has been fighting for Elena since Damon arrived in mystic fall as reward she chose Damon over him. She even forgot that Damon had killed her brother for no reason. I think, it would be better if she wants him back while Stefan doesn’t her anymore.

  47. sls says:

Great finale! The Silas/Doppelganger thing leaves a lot of questions still to be answered. Love that Paul Wesley will get the opportunity to be interesting next season. Katherine getting the cure was pretty amusing and I’m glad it wasn’t Stefan who took it. That would have been boring.

Couldn’t care about Jeremy being alive though he is pretty and all. So there’s that.
Don’t care if Bonnie is dead or alive or around town next season.

Caroline & Klaus and Matt & Rebekah…loved all of this. Klaus’ line about being her last love was brilliant. I hope we get some Matt and Caroline in New Orleans.

Um…Damon and Alaric together….perfection…Alaric kicked butt the entire time he was back. Please ..please…find a way to get Alaric back permanently!!! That needs to happen.

And Finally!!!!!!!! Elena and Damon !!!!!!! Not sure how long it will last or if it’s end game…but I hope so….

I think Silas/Stefan may be hooking up with Caroline but I’m hoping real Stefan has end game with human Katherine so Damon and Elena can be endgame. But with this show….you just can’t dare to dream or your dreams will be smashed in the end. lol

    • Cathy O says:

Hey sis, so very happy that Delena are together! I thought the entire scene was amazing along with the song and the look on Damon’s face was priceless! I hope they are endgame. Loved Klaus and Caroline too. He will be her last love. Great finale!

  48. Amber says:

I guessed write in this forum that Katherine would get the cure. But I’m disappointed they are going with a Stefan doppelganger. This isn’t a comic book.

  49. Fred G says:

Katherine being human still gives Elena an out with the old body swap gag.

    • Jason says:

      A few things….
1.) I’ve seen Buffy and Angel a billion times and I’m over the whole “they stole from Angel” crap. “Good artists borrow, great artists steal.” I’ve heard that forever. I don’t care if Julie Plec was inspired by Angel. I don’t watch the show for similarities or anything like that. I watch it because I love the characters and sometimes I hate them. If there are similarities to something (and albeit that’s a minor one with the safe) I don’t care. Pride and Prejudice is the formula for all dramatic romance and romantic comedies and I still don’t care. Get over it or make something that no has no similarity to anything…..good luck with that.
2.) I can not wait until Season 5 and to see where they go with Katherine as a human.

      Ok that is all.
