Glee Scoop: Jane Lynch on Sue's Job Change, 'New Lease on Life' and Killer Fantasy Sequence

Glee Jane Lynch Returning Season 4Sue Sylvester’s stint on the unemployment line will be short-lived.

As teased in the promo for this Thursday’s Glee (9/8c, Fox), the former McKinley High villainess — who tendered her resignation earlier this month in the wake of the school shooting — has rebranded herself as a female Jack LaLane.

“I retreat to 23 Hour Fitness [to] teach aerobics,” Jane Lynch tells TVLine. “I’ve got a new lease on life, baby!”

But as the old adage goes, you can take the acid-tongued antagonist out of McKinley but you can’t take McKinley out of the acid-tongued antagonist. As Lynch reveals, Sue starts “stalking” the school.

“I’m back at the bleachers and I sing ‘Little Girls,’” she says of the abrasive Annie anthem. “In this fantasy, I kill them all by the end of the song.”

The sequence will prove a nice warm-up for Lynch, who is set to make her Broadway debut next month as Miss Hannigan in the Great White Way’s current revival of Annie. “I’m over the moon,” she says of slipping into the iconic role. “It’s a favorite of mine. I know every breath of it.” (Reporting by Scott Huver)

  • Is “I’m black at the bleachers” a typo? Because I’m not sure what that means otherwise.

  • Jack LaLanne?

    • He’s the pioneer of physical fitness on television in America. You know about people like Gilad and Denise Austin? He was before both of them and blazed the trail they trod.

      • That was a correction of the misspelling of his name in the article. Not the question of someone too lazy to Google.

  • “In this fantasy, I kill them all by the end of the song.” Interesting in light of the Sandy Hook School shooting….. Why does Lynch/Glee get a free pass on this? It’s bad enough they did a stunt on school shootings, but really?

    • And that’s where people overthink things.

      • I’m with Chicago Dan on this one. Twenty sets of parents lost their 6 yr. old children and 7 educators died senselessly. There is no humor in presenting a bitter teacher fantasizing about killing off her students.

        • Well clearly there is some humor because Glee is going to give it a shot.
If you don’t like it, don’t watch. Simple as that.

        • It’s one thing if this episode aired directly after the incident. It’s another if considerable time went by. If you don’t like the episode’s concept, don’t watch.

          • Everything bad has happened to somebody at sometime. Are we never to have bombings or stabbings or shootings or car crashes or wars or anything in a PIECE OF FICTION ever? If the terrorists’ goal is to turn Americans into a bunch of pants-wetting pansies, they’ve succeeded. And knowing they’ve succeeded will just make them keep doing it.

    • It’s likely the episode was shot before the shootings and her comments may have been her being sarcastic or once again, taking place before the shootings. Episodes are generally filmed some times weeks or months in advance.

      • The episode was shot after the school shooting one which itself was shot because of Sandy Hook happening. It’s complete ignorance on the show runners part to follow that episode up with one where the teacher fantasizes about killing students.

  • Honor the man appropriately. His name was Jack LaLanne, not LaLane.

  • I just want her to reprise her role as Reid’s mother on Criminal Minds.
