Good Wife Exclusive First Look: John Noble's Mysterious Character Is to Die For

john noble the good wife season 4Who shot Walter Bishop?

That’s the big question hanging over The Good Wife‘s flashback-heavy March 24 episode, which finds Alicia (Julianna Margulies) trying to figure out who murdered her former client, played by Fringe‘s John Noble.

A few things to know about Noble’s character: His name isn’t Walter Bishop (it’s Matthew, and he’s pictured above); he’s both litigious and loathed (hence the bullet to the head); and he has what appears to be a special relationship with Alicia — one that may or may not extend to her mother (played by Stockard Channing, who returns in the episode).

In a recent conference call with reporters, exec producer Robert King would only divulge that Matthew is someone who “sues everyone,” adding, “What do you do with a murder where almost everybody might want to murder him?”

Scroll down for another exclusive shot from the episode (this one of Matthew and Alicia), then hit the comments with your thoughts/theories about Noble’s first post-Fringe gig!

  1. nikki says:

John Noble is always welcome on my screen. Too bad he isn’t playing daddy Cavanugh. That would’ve been sweet.

  2. kiki says:

  3. Fred says:

Look forward to seeing “Walter” in another role!!

    • A says:

      • Gail Rodman says:

I’ve been a fan of Julianna Margulies since ER. Also noticed her in a Steven Seagal movie. My daughter brought to my attention that my cousin was on ER. I used to baby sit her and her 2 older sisters when they lived in Manhattan. Her mother is my cousin (Franchesca/Janice).
I also was a big fan of Fringe good to know I can see him again.

  4. rty123 says:

Wasn’t he playing Alicia’s father?? I wanted so much to see Alicia interacting with him in a father/daughter relationship.

  5. Tran says:

Really hope John Noble gets Emmy nominated for FRINGE’s final season in a matter of months.

  6. stevie says:

for me, this looks like an alternative universe.

  7. Emily says:

The only bad thing about this is that he’s playing someone who’s already dead.

  8. Rob Stefan says:

John Noble should play Moriarity on Elementary

  9. Rhodes Chroma says:

John Noble is, in my opinion, a great actor who surprises me in every new role he takes. Glad to see him following up Fringe with something quickly – the Walter Bishop character was certainly an acting tour de force.

  10. Emy says:

Last time march 24th was this exciting was when Fringe got renewed for Season 4.
Can’t wait to see John play a baddy!

  11. Sandy says:

    Where’s Olivia and Peter????

    I miss Fringe

  12. Zoe says:

Television is always better when John Noble is involved.

  13. coil says:

A fine actor and a fine man. :)

  14. Linda Lou says:

John Noble was amazing and a very bad guy on Lord Of The Rings. I barely recognized him.

  15. Paul Thomas says:

One of our great living actors, Noble has been undervalued in his delightfully varied role in Fringe, perhaps because the style of that program was melodramatic. It would be criminal
if he is not recognized by the upcoming Emmys. In a sense, he is rewarded with this invitation to join the wonderful production The Good Wife.

Walter Bishop….He deserved more than a episode
