Pilot Scoop: Josh Lucas, Lynn Collins to Star In A&E's X-Files-esque Drama Occult

lucasMulder and Scully, redux?

Josh Lucas (The Firm) and Lynn Collins (True Blood) are set as the co-leads of Occult, A&E’s drama pilot produced by Michael Bay and written by celebrated X-Files scribe James Wong, TVLine has learned.

The project centers on a FBI agent (Lucas) who returns from administrative leave after going off the deep end while investigating his wife’s disappearance. Eager to be back on the job, he is paired with a female agent (Collins) who specializes in the occult. Together, they will solve cases for the newly formed occult crimes task force.

lynnIn addition to his starring role in NBC’s short-lived drama The Firm, Lucas appeared in the films Glory Road, Beautiful Mind and Poseidon.

Collins, meanwhile, played Jason’s ill-fated Season 1 ex Dawn on True Blood. She also co-starred alongside Matthew Fox in UPN’s Haunted.

  • Lucas has a career spanning 23+ years and includes a great deal more than just mentioned in this article, including one of my all time favorite chick flicks Sweet Home Alabama. The story line isn’t all that original but I will give it a try just because he is in it.

  • Let’s see, now. X-Files FBI Agent, Occult FBI Agent. Check. X-Files Search for abducted sister, Occult Search for missing/abducted wife. Check. X-Files Female partner, Occult Female partner. Check. X-Files X-Files cases, Occult Occult cases. Check.

    Yup, got a real original one there. At least it’s not on NBC!

  • And to add to the derivativeness: wasn’t “Occult Crimes Taskforce” a comic book series created by Rosario Dawson about FBI agents investigating the unexplained? I see people standing in line to sue…
