Most Laid-Back Photobomb
We're not certain about the identity of the journalist who “accidentally” found her way into Ryan Seacrest's opening shot on the E!'s Live From the Red Carpet: 2013, but we appreciate that she resisted the urge to shout, “Look mom, I'm on TV!”
Best Non-Answer to an Idiotic Question
When Kelly Osbourne declared Crystal the Monkey (The Hangover 2, Animal Practice) as the hottest star in Hollywood, then asked Ryan Seacrest what he thought, the red-carpet emcee simply wouldn't/couldn't take the banana. “I'll tell you what — we are thinking about all of the stars that are about to make their way through security here and talk to the 300-plus media that are lined up and anxiously awaiting.”
Best Fashion Description
Best Actress nominee Jessica Chastain, looking incredible in a beaded, Armani Prive gown, told Ryan Seacrest the look read very “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to her.
Worst Surreptitious Shot
Seriously, E!, you're going to zoom in on Scandal star Kerry Washington while she and her stylist are zhooshing her bustline?
Least Impressed Nominee
Bless her little heart, Best Actress nominee Quvenzhané Wallis did not look particularly interested as Ryan Seacrest played her a congratulatory video from Disney Channel star Debby Ryan.
Most Embarrassing Chyron
Nope, E!, that wasn't Viola Davis. It was that other black actress, Octavia Spencer.
Most Unfortunate Grooming
Poor Jacki Weaver! The Best Supporting Actress nominee, champing at the bit for her moment with Ryan Seacrest as he interviewed Daniel Radcliffe, got caught wiping the lipstick off her teeth.
Most Professional Company Woman
When Seacrest failed to ask Kerry Washington a single question about ABC's Scandal - aka only the hottest show on television - the actress deftly snuck in a plug for both the series AND her character, Olivia Pope, while discussing her manicure.
Most Unfortunate Technical Difficulty
E!'s otherwise groan-inducing Mani-Cam missed out on an impromptu bit of Jennifer Lawrence improv when she leaned down and growled, “Your ass is mine, [Emma] Stone” into the micro-carpet — only to have Ryan Seacrest report the camera had gotten unplugged.
Best Red-Carpet Couple
Was any duo cuter than Lincoln costars Sally Field and Joseph Gordon Levitt? Not with Field dropping details like, “I tied his bowtie in the car!”
Funniest Fashion Description
Actor Ben Falcone scored a big laugh from his presenter wife Melissa McCarthy with a deadpan answer to Ryan Seacrest's standard “Who are you wearing?” question: “I'm wearing a tuxedo.”
Best Attempt to Play to One's Gay Fanbase
Ridiculously stunning Jennifer Hudson's entire interview with Seacrest was a saucy delight, punctuated by this bon mot: “It's a little bit more about the eyes than the lip for me tonight.” You better work, J.Hud.
Biggest Insult of an Oscar Winner
Catherine Zeta-Jones couldn't get any respect! As she wrapped up her red-carpet chat with Seacrest, the Chicago star excitedly asked if she should place her hand in the Mani-Cam box, but the red-carpet host ignored her completely and moved on to his next interview.
Most Rewindable Moment
Melissa McCarthy had warned Ryan Seacrest to brace for a 32-year-old Jane Fonda — joking that the actress (who's actually 75) was probably doing “22 hours a day” of yoga. But when E!'s cameras finally caught the Oscar winner, it was clear McCarthy wasn't exaggerating. Yep, we'll have what she's having.
Least Flattering Interview Intro
Seacrest kicked off his interview with white-hot Charlize Theron by noting her gown was “a high-risk choice” due to “the color and the length of the material.” Which prompted the Oscar winner for Monster to tease, “Way to go Ryan! Make me nervous why don't you?” Way to get us wondering what Joan Rivers will have to say come Monday!
Worst Prop
During ABC's official red carpet telecast, special correspondent Kristin Chenoweth spent much of her time asking uninterested celebs to guess what piece of Oscar lore was inside a “mystery” box. Our guess: A piece of paper with the words “No one cares” scribbled on it.
Most Awkward Interviewer Banter
As Adele explained on ABC's red-carpet telecast how her outfit allowed her to feel comfortable while looking classic for her physique, correspondent Kristin Chenoweth replied, “I do the same thing because I'm petite! We do what we gotta do!” Oh to have such Skinny Girl problems!
