Once Upon a Time: Smallville Vet Has 'Tiny' Role

Once Upon a Time CastCassidy Freeman landed a super new gig that returned her to Vancouver, where Smallville used to call home — on Once Upon a Time.

As quietly revealed the other day in ABC’s press release for the sophomore drama’s very next new outing, “Tiny” airing Feb. 10, Freeman will guest-star as “Jack” — presumably as in Jack to Lost alum Jorge Garcia’s beanstalk-guarding giant, who returns in the episode.

“We just saw the cut of the episode, and we’re very, very excited,” Once cocreator Adam Horowitz told me at ABC’s TCA press tour party. “We love Jorge to death, after all the years working with him on Lost, and we’re very excited to offer a continuation of how his character fits into the overarching mythology of our show.”

Since wrapping her run as Smallville‘s Tess Mercer, Freeman has guested or recurred on a variety of series including CSI: NY, The Playboy Club and The Vampire Diaries. She currently costars on the A&E drama Longmire, which returns with Season 2 this summer.

  1. Lorena says:

It is Tinkerbell coming to storybrooke?

  2. William says:

They’re making Jack a female? i thought the bones in the Giant’s castle was supposed to be Jack. Anyhow, how many roles are we getting with princesses and the like? The show seems to have a lot of female roles already. The show really needs that diversity in their male roles. But that is just an observation.

  3. James says:

I’m gonna take a wild guess, and say Tinkerbell is kidnapped by someone… But I’m not sure since Tinkerbell sounds to me like a character that could appear in several episodes. It doesn’t say if Freeman’s gig is for a handful of episodes or just one.

  4. Mike says:

Interesting that they made jack a female, though I do agree with William the show lacks enough male roles, it seems the last male guest star that was not a regular was MRJ, but I see him maybe becoming a regular, and then there was Phillip.

    • sara says:

You mean other than Ethan Embry, Chad Michael Collins, Gregory Itzin and David Anders in the last episode? Chris Gauthier and Tony Amendola the episode before that?

      • kavyn says:

Pretty sure he was talking about iconic lead roles, not one-time things. Dr. Whale has less importance to the plot than Red and Grumpy do at this point, and we’ve only seen like 5 minutes of screen time with Ethan to judge what impact he has on the story. Pretty sure Mike was referring more to lead roles like Charming, Rumple and Hook.

  5. mawhi says:

Excuse all of you. Gold, Charming, Henry, Whale, Archie, August, Grumpy, Hook… this show has PLENTY of male characters. I think it’s great that there are so many ladies in such powerful roles, especially in a show about fairy tales. How often do you get to see princesses rescuing the princes? What a wonderful message.

    • kavyn says:

Charming, Hook and Whale are the only important male characters at this point. You could argue Henry is too in some sense, but his only real purpose right now is to motivate Regina and the Charmings.

In all honesty there is a nice balance between male and female characters, but it’s pretty clear that the focus of the writing is on female empowerment, which is completely fine since this show appeals more to women and doesn’t show males to be incompetent either.

  6. but is Jack a woman now because the twist is that s/he has always been a woman, or is s/he a woman because the curse made Jack a woman?

  7. Bill says:

what if, Jack is also the Jack from Jack and Jill, and this is Jill who wants revenge on the Giant for killing her brother Jack..

  8. Gilda says:

I can’t bring myself to get enthused about a giant/jack and the beanstalk centered ep, especially after a torturous 3 week hiatus. I love Jorge garcia, but I wish we were returning to something a little more relivent.

  9. Bill says:

This is random but here’s a cool story they could implement into the rest of season two:
Belle lost her memory and her fake name was Jane. Scared, she took a boat and was shipwrecked on an island off the coast. She met a guy living on his own named Tarzan. They were falling in love when Rumple showed up. He attacked Tarzan and stole Belle. Emma went after Rumple and Henry snuck on the boat there. Tarzan got on the boat and tied Emma up. On the way back Henry falls over board and Emma can’t help him. Emma starts screaming for help and Ariel hears from a distance. She quickly swims out to Henry to save him. She brings him back safely and everyone thanks her but she cannot talk. Belle is freaking out because Rumple stole her. He wants to get her memory back and Cora tells him Ursula’s ink can restore memory. He remembers Regina talking about Ursula a while ago and goes to Regina. Regina says Ursula is the nurse in the hospital ward. Rumple goes down threatening to kill her if she didn’t give him the ink. She says she needs to be released first so Rumple releases her. But Regina had trapped her for a reason and now she has more power than anyone. She knocks out Rumple and leaves. She disguises herself as Vanessa and hypnotizes Tarzan. Ariel knows Ursula is trying to steal true love from him. She stabs Vanessa with a shard from Hook’s ship. Her voice is restored and Tarzan falls in love with Ariel. Ariel gives the ink to Rumple who then restores Belle’s memory. Hook is finally recovered and is angered that Rumple won. So Hook decides to go after Baelfire, who was just found in New York, and is also Neil. Neil tells Emma about going through the portal from FTL to Neverland where he met the lost boys and what not. Hook is too powerful for Neil and Emma to stay in the real world so they go to Neverland. Neil is known as Peter Pan and Emma plays the role of Wendy. The Blue Fairy goes with them to keep them safe and plays the role of Tinkerbell.

That’s what I got so far.

  10. Rebecca Garcia says:

I’m sorry but that is too many new characters to incorporate into one episode. Besides they can’t really show that many Disney characters I’m sure there’s copyrights that they can’t over cross. I think that the writers are doing okay but they should really start picking up the pace a little bit.

  11. Rebecca Garcia says:

The Neverland idea is really good. It would be really interesting to see that happen.
