Glee Scoop: Heather Morris Says Brittana Is Done; Plus: Who's Blaine's New 'Friend'?

Get More: Previews, Scoop

404Ep404Sc24-4088Romance is in the air on Glee.

When TVLine visited the show’s set on Wednesday, McKinley High and Rachel and Kurt’s New York City loft were decked out with Valentine’s Day balloons and decorations. Read on to find out what the cast and executive producer Dante Di Loreto had to say about the big episode, as well as graduation part deux, who’s getting back together, who’s staying broken up and more.

HERE COMES THE BRIDE | Referring to the whiteboard in the choir room with W-word written on it, Di Loreto confirmed, “There is a wedding in the air. What is exciting about this show is there are certain things about that are undeniable. There are certain things that you could sit home and think, I really want this to happen.” While all signs point to Will and Emma being the couple heading down the aisle, the EP noted, “There are some things that are going to shock the heck out of you.”

KLAINE CLEARS THE AIR | While Darren Criss believes “it’s good to have some troubled water,” he’s hoping for a Blaine and Kurt reconcilation… eventually. “Of course I want to see them together in the end,” he said. Following the Q&A, the actor revealed that the former lovebirds, who got some closure during the Christmas outing, will “suss out” their relationship status. “The coming episodes address that uncertainty,” he added. “They’re trying to define what they are.” In the meantime, Kurt will get a new love interest in the form of Oliver Kieran-Jones as the head of NYADA’s glee club, Adam’s Apples. “I don’t know if Blaine necessarily knows about [him],” said Criss, who says Blaine “strikes [up] a new relationship, not a romantic relationship – or maybe it is – with somebody who’s already been around, who is now more involved in Blaine’s life. They’ve kind of taken a new step in their relationship.”

glee300BRITTANA NO MORE | Prepare yourself, Brittany/Santana lovers, because it doesn’t sound like the twosome will rekindle their romance anytime soon. “They’re friends, but they won’t get back together,” said Heather Morris. While the Cheerios were once in love and as close as can be, the actress thinks “it’s good that [Santana] moved on and gave me room to figure it out because I don’t think that they were great for each other. They’re best friends, but I think Sam gives her more room to just be herself. That’s a lot of fun. Santana was so serious for her that she really just couldn’t be weird.”

HERE TO STAY | Rachel’s NYC love interest, Brody, does not appear to be going anywhere. “We hope to keep [his portrayer Dean Geyer] around [on the show] for a while,” said Di Loreto. “We think he’s incredibly sexy. He sings and dances, as well. It’s a really interesting storyline. The show has blossomed creatively this year, being able to travel back and forth between New York and Lima. And we love having him here.” But perhaps not all hope is lost for Finchel lovers. After all, Di Loreto teased that “romance is going to play a part in [Finn's] future.”

GRADUATION DAY: THE SEQUEL | As the end of Season 4 nears, so does the end of high school for seniors Tina, Artie, Brittany and Blaine. So where will they end up? “I wouldn’t be surprised if another cast member or a few other cast members find them[selves] in New York [next season],” said Di Loreto. “That story has yet to reveal itself, but it seems [like] one of those natural conclusions. They’re all going to different places, just like we all do in high school, and hopefully those are stories that we can blossom.” Morris has her own unexpected idea for where she’d like to see her alterego to end up: “I want her to go to jail,” she shared.. “I think it’d be the best story ever!”

    • Fandom makes up a ridiculously small percentage of a show’s total audience and an even smaller percentage of the show’s total Nielson audience, which is how ratings are calculated. An impact on Glee’s ratings, if any, would be totally negligible.

    • I know. Brittany and Santana never got storylines together when they were dating and they muted Britt. Now all of a sudden she’s dating a boy, she can talk, have a lot of scenes with him, and even have romantic duets. This double standard.

shes just a silly little girl with the attention span of a goldfish who doesnt think any further than what she wants/enjoys at any given moment. she has proven this time and time again. i like her as an actor but i have little respect for her otherwise.

Comment by sarah – January 16, 2013 08:30 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • She slapped your fandom in the face because she was honest about her feelings on it? So she should just lie and tell you that she loves them and that they’re the greatest and that would accomplish what? She never said she hated them, she said they’re better as friends and she was right. Jane Lynch even said last year that she doesn’t think that Brittany was ever that into Santana, they were great friends and the writers tried to make it more because they caved into obsessive fans.

      • No the producers adulation and elevation of criss damaged Glee. Gleeonfox promoted him to death as the new male lead, every week he had a solo which in Glee world equates to who leads the show. But many, often in the silent General Audience not the fangirl fandom resented the diversion to the way things were from the pilot. Comments by the show runners were also considered to bash Finn and his role in the show. Finns importance was underestimated badly and the lack of a decent SL for him and his absence first at the start is s3 then first 3 eps s4 badly dented ratings.

  • “They’re best friends, but I think Sam gives her more room to just be herself. That’s a lot of fun. Santana was so serious for her that she really just couldn’t be weird.”

that’s because the writers have made sam a moron, and just as dumb as brittany. at first sam was a kid with a learning disability, now his intellectual issues are used as jokes. they ruined sams character so he could date brittany. it’s unbearable to watch both of them.

Comment by alex – January 16, 2013 05:28 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • i agree completely. this season has ruined sam, and watching him with brittany is awful because they are both written as characters with no braincells. how is that relationship healthier than brittana? it’s not.

Comment by john – January 16, 2013 05:40 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • I totally agree, I hate the way they have made Brittany seem so stupid, Sam also. Like I feel it’s very unrealistic to be that incomprehensible. Also, wasn’t Brittany a senior in season 3? The fact they kept her in high school andade her fail kinda made me man. Even Noah got to pass. Season 4 hasn’t been the best and I’m hoping for it to get better, and the new cast members, are so, just. I don’t really like them. Like, Marley…. Just no words for her character.

Comment by Alexandria – January 16, 2013 06:19 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Exactly. How is having two seemingly intellectually deprived people in a relationship. So they can never grow? Santana brought out the best in Brittany and Brittany did the same for Santana. That’s the epitome of a healthy relationship. I love Hemo. She’s hilarious and always uncensored…but this. Yeah this was dissapointing.

Comment by Britt – January 16, 2013 07:29 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I agree the writers have completely dumbed Sam down to Brittany’s level this season just so they can connect. I don’t remember him being this strange/weird when he was dating Quinn. I thought he was the most real when they had his family go through the financial difficulties storyline.

He’s actually the worst actor we have ever hired and we can’t wait for him to go!” Truth of the matter is, they’re playing their cards the best they can. It’s totally obvious Finn and Rachel are ending back up together in the end. Also — let’s turn our attention to Brad’s twitpic. Look at how done they look. Not.

In my opinion, the show started to fail once the fan-pandering began. The show became all about relationships instead of the individual characters and its a shame because the show had so much potential. RIP Original Glee (The front 13).

They were set up from the pilot. Only Wemma and Finchel can say that. Finchel sang ALL the songs. Duets. Group lead numbers. Finchel had the will they/won’t they story line. • Why wouldn’t it be better for fans to see Santana in a relationship with an ACTUAL LESBIAN? Someone mature, who understands what it is to be truly out and proud in this world. If they break the two up and then never give Santana another love interest, I’d be pissed. If they put her in a relationship with someone who has an IQ higher than my shoe size, I’ll be thrilled. I wouldn’t wish Britney on anyone BUT sam because they are both so outrageously and, often, offensively stupid.

Comment by Michael – January 17, 2013 09:58 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Santana always loved Brittany’s “weirdness.” She told her she was a unicorn, was the only good thing in this miserable stinking world, thought her crazy prom idea was genius, and lovingly accepted Brittany’s weird Valentine’s Day playlist.

The show can move on, but rewriting the history and dynamic of Brittana to make Bram happen is really dismissive.

Comment by abc – January 16, 2013 05:33 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • And that is exactly why I gave up months ago. I was too tired to ask for more slaps and thank them for it. As if being treated like crap wasn’t enough, lesbian fans are now told that not only they won’t get anything, ever, but also that the scraps they did obtain after fighting like crazies, well that was not serious and worth a real development. I feel so relieved and happier now I’ve stopped watching Glee.
That being said, I’m sad for the shippers (all of them, but especially Brittana shippers right now) who still give this show and FOX their money, dedication and time. On the other hand, I hope that it will be a wakeup call for some of them, and the last (much needed) push to be totally done with it and let this show die a miserable death.

You know, in all honesty I thought that reading updates of what happens or what people think on articles and twitter would make me laugh histerically, which I did for the past months will all those “spoilers” and fan reaction… but at this point not even that is amusing me anymore. I guess I’m really over it.

Best of luck to those trying to escape lol.

PS: someone please check on Heather, because if she really thinks what she says, especially after her character eats cheerios off the floor, I’m really worried for her mental balance.

Comment by Dana – January 16, 2013 10:36 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Wow, Dean, the comment was about you making the NY storyline more unlikeable, not that you personally is unlikeable. Unlike you, the poster has more sense than to attack the messenger, rather than respond to the message. Again, you never fail to disappoint, lol.

Comment by chris – January 16, 2013 11:20 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Argh Heather that is awful. I don’t ship Brittana (felt like they just smooshed two hot chicks together for ratings if you ask me), but she literally just kicked every Brittana fan in the face. That sucks. Especially since Naya only days ago gave them so much hope.

Part of me feels Heather made those comments to stir up debate…if that’s the case it’s worked pretty well. If not…well….just ouch in general. She could have done it a bit more tactfully. Skirt around the actual answer like everyone else does.

Comment by ana – January 16, 2013 05:34 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • How could you possibly think they just put them together “for ratings” when they never used them in the promos at all and had to be badgered into even letting them kiss, several episodes into dating.

Comment by Sean C. – January 16, 2013 06:10 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • People had already gone speculating, and going crazy about it via social media. The “sex isn’t dating” line set it off. They DEFINITELY played on it for a very long time. Why else would they have prolonged the first proper kiss?? Sorry, but the episodes revolving around the hints of lesbianism were probably the highest viewed.

I’m with OP on this one, maybe not the ratings comment, but Brittana always feels random to me. If they wanted to go the lesbian pairing route, Faberry makes so much more sense (No hate, I don’t ship Faberry either, it just makes so much sense than Brittana)

Comment by Steph – January 16, 2013 06:22 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
        • They “prolonged” the kiss because they didn’t care enough about them as a couple to show them kissing (or, God forbid, talking to each other). When confronted about it, the writers were first reduced to lying on Twitter about how they already had kissed, and then the episode where they did included some lame meta excusing why it hadn’t happened. The Brittany/Santana stuff before mid-season 2 was a mild background joke to the writers, nothing more, and certainly not something done for ratings.

Comment by luc – January 16, 2013 05:35 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I loved Damian’s character and thought it added to the overall show. Now bringing him back would certainly make things more interesting.

  • God, get rid of Brody, PLEASE. I pretty much disagree with everything Dante says about Dean Geyer, hah. The boy’s not bad to look at, but his singing, and ESPECIALLY his acting, leave so much to be desired. Give Lea someone who can keep up with her on screen, honestly. Even if Finn and Rachel aren’t getting back together anytime soon, at least let Cory play opposite Lea, and take advantage of their incredible chemistry.

Comment by Lia – January 16, 2013 05:35 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Dante must be smoking something really good because Brody is the worst character to grace television. Not to mention the “actor” (I use the term lightly) doesn’t really seem to care about the show but is just using it for fame. Such a shame they’re wasting Lea’s story on that no talent hack. Until he’s actually playing opposite someone who can keep up with her, I’m not interested in where this show is going.

Comment by Melissa – January 16, 2013 05:36 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • What makes me laugh is that Dean himself has said he’s too lazy for acting classes. He’s a loser.

Comment by Rachel – January 16, 2013 05:37 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • You need to watch more television if you think Brody’s the worst out there. He’s boring as heck, but nowhere near the worst.

Comment by sara – January 16, 2013 05:49 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
        • Yes because as everyone knows, people on Glee are really relevant.
Bugs me to no end that people are always asking Lea about her proposed solution to peace in the Middle East and Chris about alternative fuel solutions. I for one will be happy when Heather is never again asked about the federal deficit.

Comment by Liz – January 16, 2013 11:42 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Heather is definitely one of the worst actors on the show. I loved her one liners on the show, but the more dialogue/scenes makes Glee a bit unbearable to watch. She is just so flat and has no emotion when she delivers her lines. I do love her dancing and think this is where she shines. I also agree with the other comments that she needs to stop singing, the songs she gets could potentially go to others on the show who don’t get to sing but can sing.

      • I feel the same way about Heather. That monotone and slow voice tone worked well for the funny and enjoyable Brittany from season 1 and 2. Now hearing her talking with that same voice with a character who became literally stupid is just… IDK, annoying?

Comment by Camila – January 16, 2013 07:31 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • This! Brittany fell apart as a character when they asked for more than one liners and dancing. I get no emotion from her and please let the singers sing. There’s a reason I’ve bought so few songs this year.

Comment by john – January 16, 2013 05:37 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I’m sorry, but Cory Monteith is an actor in the truest sense of the word. The person who portrays the Brody character is just that, a person who tries to act, and does not yet deserve to be called an actor. One does not have to be crazy to be able to make that clear distinction, and I’m sure that fans of Cory Monteith, the actor, will not be happy to be called crazy either, since most of them are well-educated, professionals who just admire an individual of immense talent and great personality. It doesn’t hurt that Cory Monteith, the actor, is also a beautiful person, in and out.

    • You dont have to be “crazy” about Cory and you dont need to like Finn but you cant be serious about Cory acting skills. The critics praise him and his deliver in many episodes and the guy study for his roles and he is grateful for his acting teachers, unlike Dean who calls himself too lazy for acting clases. So dont put them in the same parameter

  • If we’re having another graduation, can we please just be done with McKinley High next season? Because this season we’ve already sat through the show’s flailing attempts to find a Finn 2.0 and a Rachel 2.0 and a Puck 2.0, etc., etc., etc., and, for the love of God, can the show spare us new versions of Artie, Brittany, and Blaine next season giving us pretty much the same storylines we’ve already seen ten times with much less talented actors? How ’bout we just come up with some reason to get everybody to New York and get back to the characters we actually care about?

  • Bram > Brittana
I think Brittany is too cartoonish to be in a serious relationship. I love Santana and I was very disappointed when they paired her with Brittany. They should stay best friends and Santana should meet someone new.

I am also very excited about Kurt’s new love interest. And it would be nice to finally see Blaine as more complex character than just perfect boyfriend/cheating and regretting boyfriend. He should get his own storyline.

I am embarassed that RIB seriously hired Dean he is pathetic and a joke… he needs to go all he is doing is bringing down all of Lea’s scenes she deserves better.
i will thank Grilled Cheesus, Jesus, God and whoever when Finn finally realizes his dream and that he is not only New York good but Rachel good. i have faithfully watched this whole season of Glee despite what they have put me through, i hope my Finchel reunion is rewarding

    • I think that someone needs to put you on a watch list. Talk about cookoo for cocoa puffs.

I like Finchell. They’re coupling was the best part of the past few seasons for me, but your ire for Dean is borderline irrational. He’s perfectly serviceable as an actor and it’s not like he has been asked to do anything difficult on the acting front. His voice is very solid as well. Instead of deal, you choose to bash on a kid because you can’t seem to understand that Glee isn’t real. These kids have talent and that’s why they are working and you are sitting on your couch watching them work. Grow up and figure out how to stop being such a brat when you don’t get what you want.(We all have sense enough to know, at least those with any rational-thinking capabilities, that Rachel and Finn are the end game.)

And, by the way, a good actress would never let ANYONE bring down the quality of her scene.
