NBC Eyes Comedy About Jessica Simpson's Life

jessica simpson blogIs the face of Fashion Star about to become a comedy star?

NBC has ordered a pilot presentation for a comedy starring fashion magnate, pop singer, Weight Watchers spokeswoman and former Newlywed Jessica Simpson, our sister site Deadline reports.

The scripted, half-hour, Curb Your Enthusiasm-like venture will be inspired by Simpson’s life; the presentation will give the network a sense for whether or not it wants to move forward with the sitcom.

Electus and Universal Television will produce the multi-camera project. Simpson and Electus head Ben Silverman currently collaborate on NBC’s Fashion Star, which returns for a second season on March 8.

“I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life — so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing!,” Simpson said in a statement.

The potential series will be another shot at acting for Simpson, who appeared on That ’70s Show and in movies like The Dukes of Hazzard. She became a recognizable name through the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, which chronicled the start of her marriage with now-ex-husband Nick Lachey.

If they get rid of Community for this, I don’t know if I will ever recover.

    • Christine says:

Agreed! This show seems so stupid. But I wouldn’t put it past NBC to get rid of Community to make room for this garbage. This is the same network that is currently airing new episodes of Whitney while Community has been MIA for months.

      • Jason says:

Community is overrated. And with the loss of Checy Chase and absolutely no ratings can you really blame NBC. They stuch with the show for a pretty long time with virtually no ratings. I watched for Chase and the cute brunette but the rest of the cast was pretty weak!

    • Angela says:

      My thoughts exactly.

This has to be a joke. I can’t imagine how anyone could think a show based around her would be successful. Ah, NBC, you strike again with your oh-so-brilliant network decisions!

  2. Sarah says:

I feel like NBC is just messing with us now. No network could be this stupid.

  3. Lauren says:

By referencing Curb Your Enthusiasm, do you mean how it’s semi -autobiographical or the improv? I hope not the improv part because I can’t see her handling that. Or acting in general actually.

  4. Midori004 says:

Wow! Working your way back to the top NBC!

  5. Amanda says:

    No. Just no…

  6. Eliza says:

    No. No.No.No.

I’m already preparing to say goodbye to Community and then NBC goes & does this. Way to hit me while I’m down! LOL.

  7. Marc1 says:

Dream Big! NBC, …just… wow, just dream big!

  8. Robin says:

    Beyond lame.

  9. Cindy says:

    Ugh, you’re the worst NBC.

  10. gary says:

So its gonna be another Reality show?

  11. Michelle says:

This almost seems like an April Fools joke – except it’s January 15. Who could possibly think this is a good idea?

  12. Nick Lachey says:

Okay have we crossed over into the Twilight Zone?

  13. Superhero says:

NBC’s Britta’d a lot of things in the past, but this would be the biggest Britta in the history of Brittas.

  14. Dave says:

And this is why NBC can’t get it together

  15. KSM says:

If they get Nick Lachey to come back as her husband, and then just re-do Newlyweds, then it might work!

  16. Goldie says:

Is NBC trying to hit rock bottom? And besides Joe Simpson who the heck is going to want to watch this junk?

  17. Jake says:

Not just “No”….HELL TO THE “NO”…Enough with the bullsh&t reality crap. This maybe based on her life, but who gives a flying squirrel’s arse.

  18. Jared says:

Jessica Simpson is a top notch comedic actress. Sike!..no offense to Jessica but if she wants to act why not use her in a supporting role? But don’t worry..this will NEVER make it past the pilot stage.

  19. John says:

I literally laughed out loud when I saw that it was NBC. NBC is the only major network that has absolutely zero shows that I watch/like. If it wasn’t for the NFL, I’d never watch NBC. They haven’t had any good shows since they prematurely canceled 3rd Watch.

  20. Jason says:

Didn’t they already prove Jessica can’t act in Dukes Of Hazzard? Maybe if they hire Scarlett Johannson to play Jessica it might work.

  21. Lynn says:

R U KIDDING ME jesus are writers and television in general running out of ideas as to what we should be watching!!!!!!!!!! If that’s the case bring back old sitcoms or great shows but don’t subject us to Jessica Simpson’s life who gives a rat ass about it !!!!!!!!
