Exclusive: George Takei, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes to Help Crown TBS' King of the Nerds

KING OF THE NERDSWho is the King of the Nerds? The panel of judges crowning that elite geek is starting to form, and TVLine has a few of the first names.

Star Trek favorite George Takei, along with Kevin Smith and the filmmaker’s frequent collaborator/Jay to his Silent Bob, Jason Mewes, will be among the guest judges on the TBS reality competition, which debuts Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10/9c.

Hosted by Revenge of the Nerds alumni Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong, King of the Nerds will pit 11 competitors in challenges that test their “intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture prowess.” The nerds will first compete as teams before moving on to individual challenges, all with their eyes on a $100,000 prize.

Guest judges such as Takei, Smith and Mewes will determine the winners of the team challenges, which include a superhero debate, a cosplay competition and a “nerd anthem contest.”

  • let me guess, it’ll be a bunch of jokes about how they can’t talk with girls, love star trek, and are oddly attached to their mothers. I bet we’ll even someone with tape on their glasses and using an inhaler.

  • No women? Seriously? And I liked this better when it was called “Beat the Geek” on Comedy Central – at least the occasional guest Geek was female. I’m sick of the “geek” community’s lack of acknowledgement of the women who belong to it.

    • That’s what’s good about the Nerdist (not great, but good). While the panel regulars are guys,t hey do have nerd female guests.

  • Read what Armstrong and Carradine have to say about the show before you start knocking it – it HAS to be better than the other reality shows on TV – it admits physics exists!
