New Girl Exclusive: Lucky Acting Vet Cast as Nick's Con-Man Father!

Look for Nick’s daddy issues to surface on New Girl in early 2013 when his scam artist father shows up played by… Dennis Farina!

TVLine has learned exclusively that the veteran actor (Midnight Run, Law & Order) has been cast on the Fox hit as Walt Miller, Nick’s (Jake Johnson) charming con-man father who suddenly reappears in his life. Nick, naturally, is highly suspicious about his pa’s impromptu visit. Jess and Winston, however, couldn’t be more delighted to meet the elder Miller.

Coincidentally (or is it ironically?), a handful of the father-son scenes will be shot at a racetrack — which served as the primary setting of Farina’s most recent TV gig, HBO’s short-lived Luck.

In addition to Farina and Johnson sharing an uncanny resemblance to one another, they also hail from the same city: Chicago.

Farina’s episode is slated to air in January.

Could there be a more perfect father-son casting other than the obviously perfect casting of Damon Wayans as Brad’s father on Happy Endings?

They’re making Nick too unlikeable this season. What’s up with the drastic change in his character?

    • sawyerheppes says:

I dunno. I’d say it works for his character. All of them have their flaws and Nick being a giant curmudgeon works. He seems to have the best head on his shoulders, thus the sane guy living in an insane world with the rest of his roomies. Sort of a Walter Mathau to the Jack Lemmons he works with.

    • Jacque says:

I think he’s suffering from chronic depression and since Jess is more-or-less part of the family now, the changes Nick is experiencing are forcing him to finally address past issues that were never put to rest. Personally, I think he’s doing an incredible job meeting and overcoming these challenges and that the mood swings are a result of old habits resisting new opportunities.

    • Jay says:

There’s no drastic change in his character, he’s just grumpy. It seems like he’s worse because the writers are screwing with him! How’s he going to fight them, he doesn’t know they exist.

I love the Nick character. I’m glad they are doing more with him.
