Exclusive: Disney Channel Eyes Boy Meets World Sequel Series, Ben Savage In Early Talks

Boy Meets World SequelThe world has met Cory Matthews — is it time now to meet his daughter?

The Disney Channel is in the early stages of developing a Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World, TVLine has learned exclusively.

UPDATE | ‘Girl Meets World’ — Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel Officially Sign On

Sources say that the cable network is trying to land original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to revisit their roles of sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who married before their ABC sitcom ended its seven-season run. The new series would center on their preteen daughter.

Since wrapping Boy, Savage’s TV guest-star gigs have included BonesChuck and Without a Trace. Fishel’s post-Boy work includes National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze and hosting Style Network’s The Dish

  4. Meg says:

as long as Shawn and Eric reappear, I’m down with this. In fact, I’ll preorder the DVDs of this series, even if it does stink. Boy Meets World was one of my favourite TV shows ever growing up, and this news just makes me so so SO happy!! :D

  5. indigo15 says:

I would LOVE to see this happen.

  6. Mikaylah says:

Dude. I would watch the hell out of this.

  7. Jenn says:

I don’t even know how to feel about this.

  9. Parker says:

    BEST. NEWS. EVER. !!!

  10. Jake says:

Even if this was the worst show ever, I would watch religiously. So many feelings right now.

  12. Meg says:

It doesn’t take much to please me, apparently, because just the thought of this made my night!

  13. Jo3y says:

Please NO. Boy Meets World was such a cute and amazing series conducted with tenderness and heart, Disney Channel would just turn Cory’s and Topanga daughter in a slutty skank that just wants to be famous as a singer or an actress. This is not going to happen, period.

    • hazel says:

Sadly, I agree with you. Unless Disney Channel suddenly became 200% better, there’d be no hope for this show. MAYBE if they were able to get the original writers and showrunners to do this one…..but that’s a huge maybe.

    • Maybe if we’re lucky, the makers of Good Luck Charlie will be put in charge of this? It’s pretty much the only live-action show worth watching on Disney Channel now.

    • Josh says:

This is why the show hangs on the condition of Ben and Danielle signing on. I doubt they would do anything to ruin the memory of the original show.

      • Rupie says:

I hope that this sequel is a hit, but the odds are against it.
At the onset, the show might attract lots of viewers who are curious about the show, but the history of TV sequels shows, unfortunately, that only a handful of sequels are successful in keeping their audience, and end up being cancelled after a few episodes.
I am really hoping that this show is a hit! I can’t wait to see the New show! Who doesn’t want to see Cory and Topanga’s life has turned out?!

    • Lisa says:

      Well stated. Completely agree.

  14. Alexis says:

A loyal Boy Meets World fan

  15. AT says:

What? I couldn’t have been more surprised by this. I would totally watch it though. It’s so weird to think that it would be about their kid! That makes me feel old…Anyway, I think it’s a great idea. Though they should definitely try to get Shawn, Eric and Feeny as well!

    • AT says:

To add to my post, I want to say that I only want this to happen if they don’t try to change the feel of the original series. It’s fine to modernize, but I don’t think it would be cool to take away what was kind of innocent about the show. I don’t think there would be a lot of interest in the show if it changes the tone too much.

    • Rupie says:

I agree! They can’t do this show without Eric!

  16. flutiefan says:

  17. Had it not been for this show, I would have died happy in the knowledge that KITT was, in fact, a talking car. In spite of that disheartening revelation, I liked it.

  18. anonymouse1013 says:

and after Bill Daniels gets done with his stint on Greys Anatomy, he could be Mr Feeny again!!

  19. gary says:

That. Is. AWESOME…Wow hell of a move by Disney Channel

  20. Alexis says:

Imagine the above comment in this voice

  21. Rose says:

    eric and shawn please!!

  22. Ashley says:

I don’t know how I feel about it being on the Disney Channel with the over-the-top cheese that their programming tends to call entertainment. Having watched this during its original run and growing up on it, I’d much rather see a series like this actually end up on a primetime lineup on ABC again.

  23. Mandy! says:

This would be fantastic. Count me as happy!!!!!!

  24. Rose says:

    omg.. feeny as well… please

  25. I Heart Chuck Bass (and Damon Salvatore) says:

Cory and Topanga’s daughter falls for Shawn’s bad boy son. Make it happen, Disney!

  26. angie says:

this is a horrible idea. A reunion show for one night or day would be much better…

    • Ram510 says:

Yeah I think I agree i think a reunion show or even a movie would be better. Disney Channel hasn’t had a good show in years so u would be worried that they would ruin it. Or at least make it a remake and keep it Boy Meets World. Boy would The CW love to take this series lol

  27. Stephanie says:

Legitimately the best news I have heard in like 3 years. I hope it’s not too cheesy of a Disney show but if it has the same magic BMW did it will be amazing.

  28. BMW#1Fan says:

And I thought Star Wars was the biggest news of the week for Disney! Way to go Disney Channel, one-upping the parent company. I want to shake the hand of whomever came up with this idea. FEEEE- NY!!!

  29. Kristin says:

    But what about SHAWN!?!?!

  30. Shannon says:

    This. is. amazing.

  31. KS says:

If this happens, I hope they name the daughter Beverly Glenn (their future daughter’s name in the Plays with Squirrels episode).

  32. Ross says:

I hope this happens!!! THIS. MUST. HAPPEN!!! AAHHHHH!!!

  33. Ace says:

WHAT? YES! Yes, yes, yes please! Between this and the rumored revival of Life With Derek, I am one very happy old-school-sitcom-loving camper!

  34. Ray C. says:

Can’t wait for the Boy Meets World – Stars Wars crossover episode.

  35. gary says:

They could seriously get the whole original cast back

  36. Sam says:

Hands down the best article I have read on this site!

  37. mia says:

Well this needs to happen! I hope they both come back!!!!
Think of the audience! Kids and all us older people who grew up watching this show.
They’d just have to get Topanga and the daughter right. There’s no way any daughter of theirs won’t be the same opinionated Hermione-esque badass that her mother was.

  38. Phantom says:

This is so crazy, as I’ve been burning through the series on YouTube.

  39. Megan says:

    Feeny better be her teacher.

  40. mia says:

Would it be too much to ask that Eric + Jack are married in this sequel? Cause those two were totally gay and that would be a really bold move for Disney to make. Their kids could go to school with the main girl.

  41. J says:

Not sure how I feel about this. I loved Boy Meets World (I still watch the reruns constantly) and a sequel could be cool if, like others said, they don’t ruin the tone and innocence of the original. On the other hand, The Disney Channel hasn’t cranked out a decent show since the 90s so they could potentially be ruining the childhood memories of hundreds if fans. I think this would be cooler as a one off TV movie, a sort of where are they now, rather than a series.
Also, it says they are in talks to get the original stars, but I do not want to see thus idea go foward with different actors playing Cory or Topanga or both.

    • Addie says:

I think (hope) that if they can’t get any of the original stars, they’ll nix the idea. I think Disney is smart enough to know how beloved this show is and that fans won’t accept some random actors playing Cory or Topanga or Shawn or anyone. It probably would be better as a tv movie

  42. Midori004 says:

Good idea, but I fear they will mess it up.

    And we need Mr Feeny!!

  43. Jenny says:

I have mixed feelings on this. The Disney Channel now days sucks big time and Boy Meets World is my ALL TIME Favorite show. Only if the creator Michael Jacobs was okay with it & contributed to the writing.

  44. Sara says:

I am so torn on this. While I would LOVE to have Boy Meets World back in my life, I don’t think I am ready to watch Cory and Topanga’s CHILD on tv. As if I don’t feel old enough already.

    • Britta Unfiltered says:

That was my thought! I feel so old right now! i think that show might have been on when I was in college. Crap, I am old.

  45. Mark Warneke says:

Just wondering how this is exclusive when it’s being reported by zap2it as well….

  46. Danny says:

    “I have a niche? -Eric

  47. ADC says:

I still watch BMW re-runs. That show never gets old.
