What to Watch Wednesday: X Factor's Top 16 Sing, 30 Rocks the Vote, Great Pumpkin and More

On TV this Halloween Wednesday: The X Factor goes live, 30 Rock refuses to leave its chad hanging, Supernatural revisits Benny and Dean’s purgatory stint, Face Off wraps its season and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (always linked within), here are 11 programs to look for tonight.

PREVIEW | Arrow‘s David Ramsey Says Diggle Knowing Oliver’s Secret ‘Elevates the Show’

8 pm The X Factor (Fox) | Since the World Series ended so quickly, the Top 16 contestants will perform live tonight for the first time (treat!) — and new hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez make their debut (trick?).

8 pm Survivor: Philippines (CBS) | The Tandang and Kalabaw tribes merge, and Lisa Whelchel is confronted about her past as a former TV teen star. Word to the wise? Do not mess with the Blair.

8 pm It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (ABC) | The animated special has been around since 1966, but maybe this will be the year that Linus finally sees the Great Pumpkin.

8 pm 30 Rock (NBC) | The last-ever Animal Practice was supposed to air here, but with the NBC’s Thursday comedy line-up pre-empted this week (by an encore of The Voice) the network is turning the slot over to a timely, election-themed ep of 30 Rock. (Watch preview.)

PREVIEW | Supernatural‘s Ty Olsson on Benny’s Return, ‘Unresolved Issues’ for the Winchesters

PREVIEW | Law & Order: SVU Sneak Peek: Rollins Works a Sister-Centric Case That Hits Close to Home

9 pm Criminal Minds (CBS) | The BAU searches for four men missing in rural Oregon. Anne Dudek (Covert Affairs, House) guest-stars.

9 pm Ghost Hunters (Syfy) | The spooky show goes underground – literally – as it investigates subterranean ghosts in allegedly haunted tunnels.

9:30 pm Suburgatory (ABC) | George and Dallas go on their first date – with her life coach Tabitha (Bob’s Burgers‘ H. Jon Benjamin) in tow; Lisa’s generosity toward Ryan makes him think he’s dying.

10 pm Nashville (ABC) | Two not-great developments for the future of Rayna and Teddy’s marriage: 1) She performs with Deacon at her hubby’s campaign fundraiser and 2) a woman from Teddy’s past (According to Jim‘s Kimberly Williams-Paisley, kicking off a multi-episode arc) shows up with a secret. Meanwhile, Juliette tries to polish her image via an interview with Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts.

10 pm Chicago Fire (NBC) | Chief Boden is accused of leaving a homeless man to die in a warehouse fire, and things get uncomfortable when Shay runs into her ex-girlfriend Claire (Life Unexpected‘s Shiri Appleby) – and Claire’s husband – during a call.

10 pm Face Off (Syfy) | Season finale: Viewers choose the Season 3 winner. (Paint a smile on your face: The show’s been renewed for a fourth season.)

10 pm American Horror Story: Asylum (FX) | A violent storm cues up Movie Night at Briarcliff — as well as offers several inmates the perfect opportunity to escape. (The hour’s grisly final image, you will see, is pretty much inevitable.)

  • Wow I didn’t know that there was a new episode of 30 Rock on this week. Was it announced during the previews last week? I mean I know the show is ending so ratings don’t exactly matter anymore but you’d think they’d at least properly acknowledge it… oh well, it is NBC after all.

  • I don’t believe X Factor is live tonight. It was not scheduled because of the possibility of a baseball World Series game.

  • Nashville and Connie Britton RULES. And since American Horror Story is so grim and violent this year without the characters that made the first season so enjoyable, it’s a win win for me.

  • AHS is the most original programming I’ve seen all year. Yes, its dark but as are most shows in this era just to different extremes. Its a phenomenal series I suggest anyone to give a chance to

    • Just having sadism, sexism, racism, perversion, etc doesn’t make it a phenomenal show. At best, its mediocre. It has nudity just for the heck of it and nothing else.

      • Spoken like a person who has no idea what they’re talking about ;) I suggest you watch the show next time before commenting on it, Kay? AHS is incredibly original and compelling this year, and I can’t wait to see where it leads. I thought the premiere was mediocre, but last weeks episode left me on the edge of my seat. The previews for tonight’s ep look awesome as well.

      • The only nudity I’ve seen in two episodes is the butts of two asylum patients being punished by being beaten with a cane and a very beautiful scene actually in which a naked woman (we only, again, see her butt) breaks free from a hydrotherapy bath and talks nicely about the small moments she gets to have staring out of a window as her only means of contact with the outside world. I don’t think the nudity is being exploiting at all for shock value and unfortunately the racism, sexism, perversion, and sadism existed just as heavily in the real-life 60′s as AHS’s does on this show. So no, I think its very original and very PHENOMENAL

  • I hope Supernatural makes tonights show fun. They used to make the funniest episode for Halloween. And is Ghost Hunters the live show they normally do on Halloween or a standard show?
