Veep is endorsing Gary Cole in Season 2.

TVLine has learned that the TV mainstay (Desperate Housewives, True Blood, Entourage) is joining the HBO comedy for a multi-epiosde arc.

Details on Cole’s character are being kept under wraps, but our sister site Deadline speculates that he’ll portray a Karl Rove-type character.

As TVLine reported last week, Kevin Dunn (Luck, Samantha Who?) has also been added to Veep‘s Season 2 ensemble. He’ll play the president’s new chief of staff, Ben.

The gig marks a return to onscreen politics for Cole; he recurred on The West Wing for three years as Vice President Bob Russell.

    • Kind of odd to have him on a show called Veep where he isn’t the title character, huh!
