Craig RobinsonCraig Robinson has been cast in an untitled NBC comedy pilot from his Office boss Greg Daniels, our sister site Deadline reports.

Daniels will exec-produce with Office supervising producer Owen Ellickson penning the script about a talented musician (played by Robinson) with rough edges who has to adjust to his new gig as a music teacher in a big city middle school. But that’s easier said than done when coming up against teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.

Robinson will also serve as a producer on the project.

The Office is currently airing its ninth and final season. Castmate Rainn Wilson is also looking to the future with a backdoor pilot for a Dwight-centric spin-off, titled The Farm, airing later this fall on the NBC sitcom.

for a moment i thought craig robinson was the obama’s brother in law

  2. Leah says:

Looking forward to it. He’s always been great.

  3. Teag says:

Hopefully it succeeds. And that it’s not in documentary format.

  4. Billy bob says:

    He’s not funny at all

    • Mark says:

Agreed. One of my least favorites on the office. Don’t find him funny at all. Don’t see why single moms would want him anyhow. This basically seems like a plot line that Theo had in the Cosby show when they focused on him at that school.

      • Jenna says:

Excuse me haters i dont think any of yall have been on tv or are famous, atleast hes actually succesful in his career. sorry that you need to put someone else down to feel good about yall pathetic lives. Really why do care what hes doing!? atleast hes doing something ,people know his name and love is work , noones telling you to watch the show! So please sit it down and shut it up!

    • Pat D. says:

Agree about Craig on the office, but he’s hilarious in just about every other role I’ve ever seen him in. Actually, he was hilarious before he became a semi-regular on The Office too. Daryl was great in the warehouse vs Michael Scott. Now, he’s just annoying.

  5. Dasani Aquafina says:

Why are they creating shows no one wants to sample? He’s a supporting cast member to the supporting cast on The Office.

    • D says:

Uhm, he’s also a movie star in many successful, funny box-office hits? I’m honestly surprised he’s still doing TV after The Office.

    • Mitholas says:

Seriously though, this mentality is so toxic to television. Can’t you just hold out and see what this show is like before you start hating on it?

Oh and yes, it’s completely unheard of for a supporting actor to suddenly get a starring role and turn out to be a great actor in his own right. Just completely unthinkable. Just look at how terrible people like Nathan Fillion and Mindy Kaling are at carrying their own shows.Or Neil Patrick Harris, who completely didn’t pull of playing the starring role in Dr. Horrible after playing a supporting character on How I Met Your Mother. Please everyone, stop giving people chances beyond what we’ve already seen, we’re not interested in seeing talented actors do anything but the thing we’ve already seen them in.

  6. Bye, Felicia! says:

But that’s the Steve Harvey show’s plot lol.

  7. TheDude says:

Sounds like a network TV, music instead of sports themed Eastbound & Down. If it weren’t Craig Robinson, i’d think it was a dumb Idea….but for him I will check it out. Great Comedic Actor.

  8. Greg says:

Why would you people make negative comments before you have even seen the show? Oh and by the way “Friends” the highly successful tv show with Jennifer Aniston had the same Premise of Living Single but I am sure none of you said anything about that on a msg board. Show ideas are recycled All of the time!
Good Luck Mr. Robinson you deserve it!
