Exclusive: Community Books Brie Larson For Season 4 — But Who Is She Playing?

Get More: Casting News, Exclusive

Brie Larson CommunityCommunity has made another A+ hire.

The NBC comedy, which has already recruited James Brolin, Malcolm McDowell and Matt Lucas for Season 4 stints, has tapped the comically gifted Brie Larson (United States of Tara, 21 Jump Street) to guest star, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The actress will play… a character whose identity is being kept under lock and key. All we can confirm is that Larson will appear in this season’s seventh episode, which finds Dean Pelton planning a “Sadie Hawkins” dance at Greendale.

Britta, meanwhile, plans a competing “Sophie B. Hawkins” dance in protest — there’s just one problem: Britta has confused Sophie B. Hawkins with, um, Susan B. Anthony.

Community is set to return on Oct. 19 at 8:30/7:30c.

  • Me too! Loved her in United States of Tara. This is possibly too much for me to handle, her and Alison Brie (heh) in (potentially) the same scenes…

…that said, Britta confusing Susan B. Anthony with Sophie B. Hawkins, HAHAHAHA.

    I sound like a bully.

  • I’m getting worried about all these guests stars…If you think about it, the best episodes usually don’t have any guest stars(or just one)
    1. Advance Dungeons and Dragons
    2. Remedial Chaos Theory
    3. The Bottle Episode(blanking on name)

Still Brie Larsen is hardly stunt casting, so I’m not too worried! I just don’t want anyone distracting from this awesome cast.

    • You’re thinking of Cooperative Calligraphy. Modern Warfare, Contemporary American Poultry and Paradigms of Human Memory didn’t have any guest stars either.

On the other hand, Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking and Documentary Filmmaking Redux both have prominent guest stars, and Mixology Certification has Paul F. Tompkins.

I do think the show has been over-reliant on guest stars to its detriment. Limitations encourage creativity and putting the cast in a room together is comedy gold.

    • yeah, you’re right. Just a funny bit of trivia here that I thought would be amusing. In the DVD commentary for Remedial Chaos Theory, Dan says they originally wanted to get Bryan Cranston to guest star as the pizza delivery guy and they had a few funny storylines to go along with that. Cranston would have been playing himself as an actor researching the role of a pizza delivery guy and I think one of the timelines would have had Abed selling him a script he wrote or something like that. I think they asked a bunch of other stars to play the role too, but I can’t remember who else they said. Cranston is the only one who stuck out to me. None of the people they asked could or wanted to do it.

  • 5 guest stars spread out over 13 (for now) episodes. I don’t think that’s too bad.

  • Brie Larson rocks. I’m so happy to see she will be on Community. I also hope she will make a return appearance to The League as Raffi’s girlfriend, because those two had some of the funniest scenes together I’ve ever seen on a TV show.
Just thinking out loud here…Can we get Charlie Day on Community as a loser brother for Jeff or a loser boyfriend for Britta or…[gasp]…both???!!! I’m in love with that idea. Make it happen, Community!

  • Cool cool cool news! Now my favorite Bries, Alison and Larson, are reunited at last. This is gonna be awesome.

  • Oh, it’ll be Herstory of Dance, so I guess she’ll be playing Kat, aforementioned here as a Zooey Deschanel type. Is Sophie B. Hawkins a funny joke? Is she an anti-feminist? If it’s more a plot line than a minor Britta, I anticipate this being a lame episode. Have there been good instances of a Britta becoming a major plot-point? In the aforementioned top episodes there’s nothing significant about Britta’s flaws – no Britta-ing, and it’s great and natural and fun.
