Whitney Casting Scoop: Meet Alex's [Spoiler]!

With a partner like Whitney, a guy’s gotta have some bros he can lean on.

To that end, the NBC sitcom has cast stand-up comedian Tone Bell as RJ, a pal of Alex’s who’ll make his debut in Season 2, TVLine has learned.

In a recent conversation with TVLine, series creator and star Whitney Cummings described the series regular role as a “very sexy, sort of new guy character friend” for her on-screen love, played by Chris D’Elia.

She also hinted that RJ “could maybe be a love interest” for the newly single Lily (Zoe Lister Jones).

Bell won NBC’s 2011 Stand-Up for Diversity, an annual program that scouts comedians across the country and presents them in a showcase for entertainment-industry contacts. He also recently played Parker on VH1’s Single Ladies.

  • He looks a bit like Jesse L. Martin from RENT and Law & Order. That’s a point in his favor. (-:

  • Wasnt the show criticized at one point for not being diverse enough… Im sorry, for not having any black actors on the show… So they get rid of the indian guy and bring this guy in… This is funnier than anything ive seen on that show…

  • This is a really good addition to the cast especially after losing Maulik. I think they finally got the piece they need to take the show to the next level. Good move here by Whitney as I’m sure people will love it if he became a love interest for Lily.
