What to Watch Sunday: Newsroom Finale (Plus Three Others), AMC Alum’s Diva Duty and More

On TV this Sunday: True Blood‘s fang gang signs off for a while, there’s unrest in The Newsroom at the end of its freshman run, Episodes and The Great Escape wrap their seasons, and Drop Dead Diva’s Stacy may not be able to have her “pake” and eat it, too. Here are 10 programs to keep on your radar tonight.

8 pm Good Luck Charlie (Disney Channel) | Teddy takes her volleyball coach’s advice too seriously, and Bob finds solace at PJ’s new apartment.

9 pm True Blood (HBO) | Season finale: The show’s fifth outing comes to an end in what everyone from outgoing showrunner Alan Ball to cast member Deborah Ann Woll says is a big, bloody to-do. (Take a peek!) Eric embarks on a final mission to overthrow the Authority and save Bill from losing his humanity, Alcide prepares to go up against J.D. again, and Sam and Luna see how far away from the Authority they can get. Have no fear: Already renewed.

9 pm Hell on Wheels (AMC) | Mickey and Sean’s lives hang in the balance. As Cullen tries to keep order, Lily and Elam work together to clean up a mess.

9 pm Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime) | Jane accidentally gives Nancy Grace a shiner on live television, mortifying the lady lawyer in front of her idol, Lawrence (guest star Dylan Walsh). Elsewhere, All My Children/Dancing With the Stars alum Cameron Mathison appears as one of Stacy’s customers who reveals he holds the patent for pake (cake baked in a pie crust, for the uninitiated) – and wants half of her business in return.

9 pm Leverage (TNT) | Nate obsesses over a dying FBI agent’s failure to catch 1970s skyjacker D.B. Cooper. Cue one funk-tastic, Christian Kane-centric “flashback” episode (teased here by Aldis Hodge, Question No. 6.)

10 pm The Great Escape (TNT) | Competitors race to escape from a Los Angeles skyscraper in the adrenaline-pumping reality contest’s Season 1 finale.

10 pm The Newsroom (HBO) | Season finale: Nina Howard’s revelation gobsmacks Mac; Reese and Leona meet with Will, Mac and Charlie – let’s just say, it’s not pretty; and Jim and Maggie come to a crossroads. Yep: Already renewed.

10 pm Breaking Bad (AMC) | From the fond-of-understatement network: “Walt takes control of business matters; Mike deals with the consequences of his actions.”

10 pm Copper (BBC America) | A figure from Corcoran’s past returns to Five Points, leading the lawman to new questions about his daughter’s death and his wife’s disappearance.

10:30 pm Episodes (Showtime) | Season 2 finale: Sean and Bev have trouble letting go and Matt finds it so hard to say good-bye to Labia (again). In other news, Carol learns Merc is being fired!

    • A part of me hopes they’re gonna kill Bill off. He’s un-redeem-able in my opinion. Also, Lilith and Salome should go too. Urm, how about the whole Authority building just got swallowed by the smoke monster?

  • Why did TVLine stop doing recaps of the Newsroom? I was really enjoying them!

    • I was wondering that as well. Sure, the ensuing discussions got a little political and heated, but that’s just the nature of an Aaron Sorkin show. They are meant to be hotly debated.

    • Put the entire name of the show. You are acting like the show is so well-known, that initials are all that is needed to name the show.
People need to understand that you can not continuously designate to anagram words or phrases if they are not popular to the public. Ask yourself, “If I went to any public place and asked someone what ‘GLC’ means, would they be able to answer me?” 2nd question: “Did I make myself sound any cooler or knowledgeable by inventing an anagram?”
This was a “I live in an electronic narcotic world” PSA.

  • I’m really hoping that they don’t kill Nora off on True Blood. I’m really liking the relationship between her and Eric and can’t wait for them to reunite with Pam.
