What to Watch Wednesday: SYTYCD All-Stars, Dirty Jobs Says G'day, Gary Cole's Pains & More

On TV this Wednesday: Mike Rowe tackles Australia’s Dirty Jobs, some familiar feet join the So You Think You Can Dance Top 10, NY Med is discharged and, yeah, Gary Cole is gonna need you to go ahead and tune into Royal Pains. Here are 10 programs to keep on your radar tonight.

8 pm So You Think You Can Dance (Fox) | It’s down to the Top 10 aka time to call in the All-Stars! Also, Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied sits in as a guest judge. I will be very excited if he somehow works “Attack it!” into his critique.

8:30 Baby Daddy (ABC Family) | Ben wants his dad to take part in Emma’s first Christmas photo, while Tucker and Riley discover Danny’s high-school journal. Oh, by the way — renewed!

9 pm Royal Pains (USA Network) | Evan worries about an upcoming meeting of the in-laws, but his anxiety pales in comparison to the gigantic family secret he learns Page is hiding. Henry Winkler returns as Eddie while Gary Cole (Office Space) guest-stars as the owner of a polo team.

9 pm Restaurant: Impossible (Food Network) | The restaurant-rescue show’s 50th episode gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at production and offers updates on its most memorable disease factories eateries.

10 pm Dirty Jobs Down Under (Discovery) | It’s a g’day to get dirty. In this offshoot of the popular series, up-for-anything host Mike Rowe tackles Australia’s less-than-desirable tasks. Tonight’s series premiere has him working and hunting with Aboriginal tribal leaders.

10 pm NY Med (ABC) | The series finale of this up-close look at life in New York City hospitals features husband-and-wife surgical residents, an 18-year-old Crohn’s patient betting on ground-breaking surgery and doctors removing all of a woman’s abdominal organs (then replacing them) to treat her cancer.

10 pm Top Chef Masters (Bravo) | Folk duo The Indigo Girls and Vegas hubba-hubba girl Holly Madison guest-judge an episode that includes an all-you-can-eat, bottomless-bloody-mary-and-mimosa-brunch pool party. (That might’ve been the tastiest, most hyphenated sentence I’ve ever written.)

10 pm Futurama (Comedy Central) | Just call it Bender’s 11: The crew stages a casino heist to recover stolen property from the Robot Mafia.

10 pm Necessary Roughness (USA Network) | Dani treats mixed-doubles tennis players experiencing problems on and off the court. Guest star Rob Estes returns as TK’s agent, who has a face-off with Matt. And, in Amanda Detmer’s first guest spot of the evening, Jeanette’s pregnancy panic hits its apex.

10:30 pm The Exes (TV Land) | Who’s the Boss? star Judith Light returns as Holly’s mom and Amanda Detmer (guest spot No. 2!) shows up as Hol’s perfect sister Jill, as Holly chooses an alternative lifestyle that quickly spirals out of control. Keep a look out for Glee’s Dot-Marie Jones, who also makes an appearance.

  • Speaking of Gary Cole, I would really love to see a reboot of “Midnight Caller.” Or just a continuation in the same fashion as the new “Dallas.” Cole is just as suited to the part today as he was when it originally aired. I still miss the show, and Cole in that role.

  • Big Brother then SYTYCD. Though I guess Ben can thank his ability to knock up Natalie Portman for that guest judge spot.

  • I honestly have no clue what I’ll be watching, other than I’ll be setting aside Melissa & Joey for later, as I’m not caught up.

  • Yeah, Gary Cole is probably more known for Office Space, but for me, he will always be Sheriff Lucas Black on American Gothic. And he still gives me the creeps. :)

  • Dear Royal Pains producers: Get rid of the Fonz and bring back Jill! Hank had no chemistry with that Christina woman and the Fonz is a bore and a horrible actor who detracts from the main characters.

Gary Cole – I always remember him from Midnight Caller and American Gothic- “maybe you oughtta lay off a little of the cholesterolllll”
He also did a funny guest spot on Psych a few years ago.
