Fall TV Preview

Survivor 25: Facts of Life Alum, Former Baseball MVP Among Philippines Cast

You take the good, you take the bad, you take ’em all and then you have…the cast for Survivor‘s 25th season?

Yes indeed, while that tweak on the memorable ’80s sitcom theme song could probably be used to to sum up the contestants on any season of CBS’ reality granddaddy, it has particular relevance for Survivor: Philippines, which counts Facts of Life star Lisa Whelchel (aka Blair Warner) among its 18 castaways.

Also competing for the title of Sole Survivor and a $1 million prize? Former National League MVP Jeff Kent of the San Francisco Giants (see photo, far right), plus a trio of former players who were medically evacuated from the game in prior seasons and are returning for a second chance to outwit, outplay, and outlast. (Gulp. Does this mean the return of Survivor: One World‘s wretched Colton Cumbie? Probably.)

For the the first time in eight years, Survivor: Philippines will split the contestants into three tribes, which will be named after animals in the region: Kalabaw (“Water Buffalo”), Tandang (“Rooster”) and Matsing (“Monkey”), according to a CBS release. Immunity challenges will include plenty of water-based battles, in which the three tribes will battle for first and second place in order to be granted immunity, with the third-place tribe heading to Tribal Council to eliminate a team member.

Survivor: Phillipines‘ 90-minute premiere is set for Sept. 19 (8/7c on CBS).

Excited for the new season? Are either of the celeb players making you more or less likely to tune in? And what are your thoughts on the return of three prior players who had to cut their Survivor journeys short due to injury? Sound off in the comments!

  1. Jon says:

I think Colton, Michael Skupin and that guy with the dreadlocks duering Russell’s first season will come back.

  2. Jake says:

Seriously does anyone really watch this crap show any more? 25th season of CRAP!!! time to go away!

  3. Zach says:

The people confirmed for the 25th season Are Jonathon Penner, Russel (Black guy not VIllain), and Michael Skupin. No Colton, thank god.

  4. Tommy says:

Not one person has commented on the absurdity of the fact that Lisa Welchel is doing a real honest to God, non-celebrity based reality show. This is ABSURD. It’s not I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here or The Surreal Life or a show on E! It’s SURVIVOR starring LISA WELCHEL not as BLAIR WARNER. Where’s Tootie?

  5. Larissa says:

I’ll watch SURVIVOR again when they get an entire cast of “nobodies” instead of one that includes any former players or former famous people.

  6. SoFla says:

The only Facts of Life alum I would like to see on Survivor is George Clooney …. but we all know he wouldn’t do it, unfortunately.

  7. Stephanie says:

I love the fact that three of the ten players across the years who have been medically evacuated are coming back. And seeing Jeff Kent will be awesome, I remember him best from the 1992 trade that brought David Cone to Toronto

  8. RKar says:

Looking forward to this season, I think it is cool that Lisa Welchel who is now older, a mom with kids is taking on this challenge.

  9. itsme says:

I’ve watched every season of Survivor since it first started. Its my guilty pleasure and there’s some sort of perverse pleasure in watching people plan and scheme to win.
I’m not a big fan of the “returning player” schtick they’ve been on lately, but the medically evacuated people could be a good twist. At least they’ll get the chance to play out the game.

  10. natalie says:

Jo wanted to play but they wouldn’t let her bring her bike.

  11. jim says:

Since Kent played for both the SF Giants and the LA Dodgers, if you are going to describe him as playing for the SF Giants at least use a picture of him in his Giants uniform and not the Dodgers uniform.

  12. Jon says:

Jonathan Penner? Urgh. I like him but this would be his third time if ever. Give other people a chance. I’d even prefer someone we hardly know like courtney from one world. Just so we get to know who she is. Thank god it’s not james though.

  13. PittsRu2 says:

If Colton returns, I will simply turn it off for good. They should have barred him from the reunion show let alone another chance. This show has gone way down hill over the last few years and that is the death knell. Like bringing players back as coaches and putting them into the game on Big Brother. Looks like reality tv needs a makeover.

  14. Skippy says:

I want an entire cast of Boston Rob. Just kidding. Love the fact that three returning players are coming back. Especially Mike Skupin, maybe he will kill more pigs!

  15. We want Zane Knight to win this all the way. He is our home town guy and has a heart the size of this world. He is real baby! Go Zane Go!

  16. PinoyGigs says:

I am a Filipino and I am proud of my country. It is a big pleasure that the Survivor cast make Philippines as one of their destination.
