What to Watch Friday: Boss Starts Its Second Term, Strike Back Is Back, a Final Shake and More

On TV this Friday: CBS celebrates teachers, the Shake It Up girls attack Japan, Kelsey Grammer Bosses around Chicago some more, Strike Back launches its new mission and more. All told, we picked out nine programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm Teachers Rock (CBS) | This tribute concert, celebrating teachers and education and benefiting several nonprofit organizations, features performances from Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Josh Groban and the pop group Fun. (whose clever name I just thwarted by putting them at the end of the sentence). Oh, wait.

8 pm Shake It Up: Made in Japan (Disney) | In this 90-minute season finale, which is infused with Tokyo teen fashion and “J-Pop” music (?!), Rocky and CeCe win a trip to Japan.

8 pm Nikita (The CW) | In this Repeat to Revisit, Division is in an uproar when agents start being assassinated one by one.

9 pm Boss (Starz) | Season 2 premiere: Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer returns as Chicago mayor Tom Kane, whose hands are as full — and as dirty — as ever as he finally breaks ground on the O’Hare expansion while also riling up people with an aggressive urban renewal plan that will decimate an underprivileged district. Sanaa Lathan (Nip/Tuck) and Jonathan Groff (Glee) join the cast as an alderman’s formidable No. 1 and Kane’s temporary new aide.

9 pm XIII (Reelz) | Having learned that he was trained for a corporate intrusion mission in Costa Verde, XIII and Jones head off to investigate — and make stunning discoveries.

9 pm Grimm (NBC) | If you’re among the peeps unaware that the first four episodes of Season 2 are airing Mondays at 10… well, it seems they’re being rebroadcast in the show’s regular time slot here as well. So if you snoozed, you did not lose…d.

10 pm Strike Back (Cinemax) | Double-episode Season 2 premiere: Sgt. Scott is on a standard security mission in Kenya while Stonebridge, now out of the unit, is training recruits at a military base and being a dutiful husband — until Scott’s mission takes an unexpected dangerous turn.

10 pm Real Time With Bill Maher (HBO) | Summer premiere: Season 10 resumes with roundtable guests Mark Cuban, Reihan Salam and Alex Wagner, while Chelsea Handler is an interview guest.

10 pm Lost Girl (Syfy) | War looms — with casualties and consequences for Bo and Kenzi.

  • Strike Back! If you like action and suspense this show is for you too. It’s the best. It’s much better than most Hollywood action movies.
