Michael Des Barres, onetime front man for the 1970s band Detective, will once again channel his inner real-life rock star for a TV role — this time on CBS’ NCIS.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Des Barres has been tapped to play the colorful bloke we first told you about in Ask Ausiello — that of an aging has-been one-hit wonder from the late 1970s who lived hard, blew his earnings in the ’80s and has been skirting creditors ever since. The Brit musician-turned-actor is slated to appear in Season 10 Episode 3.

“This is a very fun episode and Michael Des Barres brings tremendous humor and idiosyncrasy to a character he knows oh-too-well,” NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg tells TVLine. “We really lucked out having him join us.”

Des Barres’ previous acting credits include a recent episode of Suits, Bones (in “The Rocker in the Rinse Cycle”), The WB’s My Guide to Becoming a Rock Star, Melrose Place and a recurring run as MacGyver menace Murdoc.

NCIS aka TV’s most-watched drama series premieres its new season on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

  • Who cares! If it isn’t about Tiva it’s a waist of my time. This old man is going to take time away from the only characters who matter. Tiva! Tiva!Tiva!Tiva! Get rid of Duckie and Abby and Vance and Palmer. Make old Man Gibbs retire and McGee can go to geek ville. The show is Tiva and every 1 knows it!

    • Who cares? I care! MDB is a great actor and he’s been fantastic in previous roles. he’s also a great musician! For many of us, the show is much more than one or two characters.

    • oh good grief. We know you are trolling and trying to start something between the Tiva supporters and the antis.

Surely, you have something better to do. I hope people are smart enough to see through your little tactics and ignore you!

      • Murder is in the air
        Under the temple of
        Ra
        Death awaits
        On the final
        Curtain

Needless to say, I didn’t grow up watching cartoons. ;o)

      • Doubtful. Just one of the outliers. There are whackjobs in every group. Given the username, this one is one of the creepy ones who ship the actors, too. That’s a line that should never be crossed. Very disrespectful, not to mention invasive.

    • Who or what the heck ia a “TIVA” ? There are no cast members or guest stars by the name of “TIVA” In fact there has never been a “TIVA” since NCIS started 9 Seasons ago. WOW !!! ????

      • Tiva is a reference to the relationship between Tony and Ziva…Tiva! Just think Tomkat, Brangelina, etc.

  • This is great news! Michael is a top rate actor (remember him from MacGyver?) who can play a variety of roles with panache and style. He has some great acting chops and I can’t wait to see him interact with the tea,.

    • Oh I agree, I love how he always seems to play these over-the-top characters that would be absolutely ridiculous if played by anyone else–but he somehow makes it work!
