Rookie Blue Preview: Gail Goes Undercover as [Spoiler] Returns in a 'Nail-Biting' Two-Parter

Rookie Blue Charlotte SullivanRookie Blue goes undercover this Thursday (ABC, 10/9c) when the cops of the 15th Precinct chase a killer with a type: blonde call girls in their mid-20s. Naturally, Gail (Charlotte Sullivan) volunteers to pose as a high-end escort, complete with a how-to-play-a-hooker tutorial from training officer Noelle. But the case will turn complicated when the rookie goes from bait to possible victim, setting the stage for a tense two-parter concluding on Aug. 9.

“It’s a great couple of episodes,” raves Enuka Okuma, who plays detective-in-training Traci Nash. “All I can say is it’s really exciting, it’s nail-biting, and it was really fun for all the actors to play.” She adds that the high-stakes arc will also set the season “off in a whole other direction.”

Could the new trajectory have something to do with the possible “ultimate sacrifice” teased in the official description for the Aug. 9 episode? Earlier this season, star Missy Peregrym predicted that viewers would “go crazy over” over a situation that “really throws a rift through [all the characters].”

Rookie Blue Eric JohnsonWhether someone will bite the bullet remains a mystery, but we can confirm that Eric Johnson’s Det. Luke Callaghan will return in the second half of the two-parter. Last Andy – and the audience – heard in the Season 3 premiere, Luke had vanished after taking a gig with the gang task force. But recent events at the precinct draw him back to his old stomping grounds to assist with the investigation.

“He comes in on a really big case and stays with us,” executive producer Tassie Cameron tells TVLine. “Luke fans can rest assured he will be joining us again, but we wanted to give him a little pause and let the Andy/Sam stuff breathe without her ex right there in the picture.”

Consider the new couple’s respite officially over. While the detective reappears with “a lot on his plate professionally,” he still manages to stir things up for his former fiancée. “He causes some conflict between Andy and Sam, but perhaps not in the way you’d expect,” teases the EP.

Meanwhile, if you sensed some vibes between Luke and Gail when they worked together last season, you are most definitely not crazy. There are no plans for the pair to share a romance this year, but “it’s something we’re holding [onto for later],” says Cameron. “Luke and Gail have really interesting chemistry together on screen. You’ll see that, I hope, a little bit in Season 3.”

Rookie Blue fans, are you excited to see Luke back? Would you like to see a Gail/Luke romance?
