What to Watch Monday: Perception Premieres, Eureka Sees Double, Home Run Derby and More

On TV this Monday: It’s the beginning of the end for The Closer, Eric McCormack shows off his unique Perception, beer’s to the memories on How I Met Your MotherLost Girl plays games and baseball’s biggest batters try to knock one (and preferably more) outta the park. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are eight programs to keep on your radar tonight.

8 pm Home Run Derby (ESPN) | Warm up for Tuesday night’s All-Star Game by watching Major League Baseball’s hardest hitters brazenly swing for the bleachers. Broadcast live from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO.

8 pm The Secret Life of the American Teenager (ABC Family) | Amy and Ricky’s loved ones want to throw them a wedding reception, which causes a dilemma for the not-actually-married pair. Also, 7th Heaven’s Haylie Duff guest-stars as the lawyer Ben needs when he confesses that he may have burned down Dylan’s school.

8 pm How I Met Your Mother (CBS) | This Repeat to Revisit brought the concept of Edward Fortyhands to the masses. If you’re still in the dark, watch and marvel at the amount of ingenuity and creativity applied to something so patently ridiculous. (And if you’ve ever played, you’ve got to tell us about it in the comments.)

PREVIEW | Kyra Sedgwick Surveys The Closer’s Last Battlefield, Ponders Her Next TV Gig – Plus, How Will Fritz Go on Without Brenda?

9 pm Eureka (Syfy) | Eureka’s citizens are being replaced by body doubles, and Allison, Fargo and Zane are the kidnapped originals’ singular hope!

PREVIEW | Exclusive Bunheads First Look: Truly Gives Her Nemesis an Unexpected Helping Hand

10 pm Perception (TNT) | Series premiere: Emmy winner Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) plays an eccentric professor who assists a former student (Rachael Leigh Cook) now working for the FBI. Kelly Rowan (The O.C.) and LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) co-star.

10 pm Opening Act (E!) | Series premiere: The newest offering from very busy producer Nigel Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) gives undiscovered musicians an opportunity — and the necessary coaching — to warm up the crowd for big-name performers. First up: Rod Stewart looks for someone to share the bill.

10 pm Teen Wolf (MTV) | Derek’s not sure he’s the Alpha for the job, Lydia starts to put tooth and tooth together about the bite from Peter, and Jackson makes trouble for Scott and Stiles.

10 pm Lost Girl (Syfy) | Lauren and The Ash are playing a wicked game – is it, by any chance, Edward Fortyhands? – in which Bo becomes a pawn.

Eureka at 9:00. I’ll DVR Bunheads and watch The Closer when it airs again an hour or two later. I might give Perception a shot, although it looks a little too weird for me. Quirky has been overdone lately.
